Hear hear! God, I get soo tired of threads like this. Let me make it clear:

1 I don't use MMS, never have, never will. I don't care if Apple introduce it.

Well, until push e-mail is available for major email accounts and not just yahoo, then people will stop complaining about not having MMS. Iphone is basically the only phone that can only view incoming videos/pics through solely e-mail.

2 I don't use SMS forwarding. SMS forwarding is the last refuge of generaly racist, sexist, homophobic "humour". I've never wanted to forward an SMS in my life.

Have you ever forwarded an e-mail? What about a bulk e-mail? Bulk text messaging (not so much sms forwarding) would be very beneficial for the majority of smartphone users.

3 Flash based websites are not among the sites I visit.

So you don't go to news video sites, or many merchant websites I take it then? Flash is implemented in more websites nowadays then it's not.

4 I use my phone camera to take notes. I use a real camera when I want to take pictures. Never seen a phone camera with as good a lens as a real one.

Have you seen the new 8mp + smartphones with true xenon flashes, digital zoom, auto focus, with a physical shutter and the same lens being used in Nikons and Sonys?

5 I do use my iPod. I used to carry a first gen shuffle and a crappy basic Nokia.

pretty much every smartphone out now has an exceptional media player, some outdoing Iphones.

6 I like to be able to access the web wherever I am.

All new smartphones are capable of this..?

7 My colleague's blackberry can't see PDFs that I can see on my iPhone

Is your colleague connected to a data plan? I dont know of any BB model not capable of viewing a PDF.

8 Her blackberry can't see Excel files that my iPhone can read.

See above response. BB is based off of being able to view practically any file type. I don't know any BB user to have complaing about the lack of file viewing.

9 I don't give a tuppeny screw for different SMS tones, maybe because I'm not having an affair.

Stereotype much? People like uniqueness and originality. I didnt know people who wanted different SMS tones were cheating on their spouses. Having the ability to customize everything about a phone is a great selling point, not to mention gives the user their own sense of uniqueness.

10 I always wanted a phone with no buttons. I grew up in the 70s when the idea of a screen that changed configuration depending on your needs was SciFi.

A smartphone should have some buttons. If a smartphone is used the way it's made (business, professional setting, etc) having some buttons would be nice. A smartphone is a mobile phone a lot of people use when they are away from their desk/computer etc. You wouldn't want your computer to be buttonless, would you now?

I love my phone I don't hate it.

Like I said in numerous posts, the Iphone IMO is a great multimedia phone. A smartphone? Partially. The ease of use and looks of the phone is what gives the iphone the overwhelming popularity it has. But with all these new 'true' smartphones stepping it up, Iphone needs to take note that they will be left in the dust if they don't fix certain things on their next gen iphone, because the true smartphone users will have already left for something newer and better.

While I'm perfectly happy with the multimedia functions my iPhone 2G offers it does frustrate me on the most important aspect of the phone... THE PHONE  I always have poor signal and I can never use EDGE to browse the internet. It stinks but I don't have any way to sort it out so I just live with it ;)

Urrrm no. Why would you 'secretly hate' something.
If I'm not happy with a product I return it

I'm perfecly happy with my iPhone it does eveything I need it to, whilst I see the point of some peoples frustration, it does everything I need it to do.

If people didn't know what the iPhone could and couldn't do before plunking one down, they shouldn't go about complaining afterward.

1) It's a phone.

2) Do research before to see if it fits your needs. Don't be a lemming.

3) If it doesn't meet what you need, DON'T BUY IT! Don't be a lemming.

4) If you become distraugt about it after the fact, get a phone that makes you happy.

Do people still think this is an useful response to these threads? "If you don't like it, get another phone." Gimme a break.

Let's try some originality for a change, eh?

Like others have said, going from iPhone to any other phone that has MMS, C&P, or any other left out feature is nearly impossible. I've had an iPhone for over a year now and I think the longest I've been able to make it was five or six days.

I was just feeling kinda down when I posted this thread. I do love my iPhone, I'm just starting to get bored with it. I'm trying really hard to remember why I pay $100 a month for it.

So, how about; end of (your participation in this) thread.

No.

We have these things called contracts, so we can't just return it.

If you can't decide whether you can't live without the items the OP described within the 1st 30 days, or however long the service provider gives to "try out" the product, or phone in this case, well then I feel sorry for you....wait, no I don't. So you can return it.

I know what you mean here. I was just thinking I would like a new phone, but seriously, what could I switch to? The LG VU? The iphone and the app store are truly remarkable innovations and unfortunately switching to any other device would be a let down.

Yes. I think the iPhone is great, but the lack of basic features with no explanation from Apple as to why bothers me. Just because Steve Jobs doesn't want MMS, Copy Paste, etc on his iPhone doesn't mean that's what we want. The features it does have start to get boring after a while and I can barely look at the App Store anymore because it's just filled with useless crap that doesn't do anything interesting.

I love the UI of the iPhone, but if Apple doesn't start to take things more seriously, the competition will draw more and more people away from it.

I also hate AT&T. They treat us (iPhone customers) like we are some sort of burden that they have to maintain and as though we aren't even part of the network when in reality we are their highest paying customers.

Okay, so today I was thinking about how crazy popular the iPhone has gotten... yet it's one of the MOST SERIOUSLY CRIPPLED smartphones ever made. I got to thinking how much I love the iPhone, but deep deep deep down inside I wish it had the features of other phones.

I was talking to my brother last night and he still loves his iPhone but he was like... I really mostly just use it as a regular phone lately.... and how come I can't send pictures to someone elses phone and why aren't we allowed to text in landscape mode... it seems so easy for them to add.... why can't you edit the contrast and brightness of your photos?

So a few of those things are doable through downloading extra applications from the app store. Some of them cost money and some are free, but then you have all these extra apps you have to launch and clutter up your homescreen with all of these icons to give us BASIC FEATURES?

Why can't we have a background color or picture on our home screen?
Why can't we change our SMS tone (those 6 tones are really bad)
Why can't we text in landscape so that when we're lying down or not sitting perfectly straight we can still hold the phone (it's almost impossible to type with 2 thumbs in that position, because you can't grip the phone with both hands well enough)
Where's our promised Push Notifications?

I guess I'm secretly embarrassed to have an iPhone. Yes the touch screen and iPod functions are the best out there, but for pete's sake... we've been waiting almost 2 years for standard features.

I guess you can tell me to get another phone, but I don't like any other phones, I just want some integrated features on my iPhone because I feel a little left out in some areas.

Sorry for the long post. Anyone else secretly hate their iPhone sometimes? I wish Apple would at least give us a hint for what might be coming. It always feels as if we're just constantly waiting and waiting... then when we finally do get an update, it usually adds stuff that I really don't care about and then starts the waiting again.

Cant you setup a wallpaper on your home screen anyways? I dont care so much about the colors but I believe you can setup wall papers from your photo gallery.

The SMS tones would be nice to pick from amongst ringtones but hardly a crippling feature.

I'm sure theres a reason for the no texting in landscape (probably because of it taking most of the screen). But there are apps in the app store that can do this so again hardly a crippling feature.

Push Notifications are included in the phone as seen with Bejive IM, IM+ etc.. is it any good.. meh I'm sure it'll be a touted feature of the new iPhone.

Oh wait I remember your avatar, you're the one that posted that top 10 reasons not to jailbreak the iPhone but complains about features that are missing.

Have you actually seen and used how ****** the Storm is btw? sure it might solve much of these quirks with the iPhone but I've seen people returning em left and right and industry analysts think its a piece of crap. So as much as you want to be bitching and griping (and we all are btw) you gotta evaluate your options, if you genuinely dislike the iPhone, find its lack of features appalling then wait till your contracts up and switch to a blackberry or palm.

Simple!

Not sure why the storm is so bad its not like RIM rushed it to the market (or so I'd hoped). The Bold I heard got awesome reviews and if it weren't for the small screen I'd have one honestly but what really killed the storm for me is the tactile feedback. Just the idea of pressing on the screen every time I click/type something throws me off.

I forgot to add that the Storm doesnt feature WiFi that was the second nail in the coffin.

Nobody talks "The Governor" that way ...Nobody!!! :D

Silly me. I just thought that if one was dissatisfied with the content of a thread and wanted to "end" a thread, then they wouldn't actually perpetuate it along by posting in it. Seems hypocritical, but thats's just my opinion. I guess he may hate this thread/topic, but "secretly" loves it.

i think the iphone lovers dont hate the phone secretly but there would be some cases where people would not be able to make optimum utilization of the phone and thus keep hating

This is the internet, there are no secrets here. :D

I've never spent so much on a phone in one go.... got mine on Pay as you Go.

I resisted for a very long time, mostly because I previously owned an iPod Touch, thought it sucked balls (for a lack of a better expression) so I took it back after a week. That was 12 months ago. Since then significant changes had been made to Touch and iPhone design and firmware.

I had seen so many friends with one and saying how great it was so as soon as it got 3G and came out on Pay as you Go, I eventually gave in. Haven't regretted it and doubt I'd replace it for a few years to come.

How do I get an iPhone on Pay as you Go? That would be awesome!

Is it not available where you live? I'm from UK, works out half the price over a period of 18 months. Paid £330 (roughly $440) for my 8GB 3G iPhone.

Unfortunately, AT&T doesn't offer anything like that. You have to unlock the iPhone to use a pay-as-you-go sim and then they just find you and make you have the iPhone plan again.

Why can't we have a background color or picture on our home screen?
yes you can

Why can't we change our SMS tone (those 6 tones are really bad)
yes you can

Why can't we text in landscape so that when we're lying down or not sitting perfectly straight we can still hold the phone (it's almost impossible to type with 2 thumbs in that position, because you can't grip the phone with both hands well enough)
yes you can

it's called the amazing world of jailbreaking. try it one day, you'll never go back

It is impossible for me to commute the 30 miles to work without dropping a caller on three occasions. That being said, I love the iPhone and was appalled when a friend threatened to switch back to Verizon because of AT&T service.
