I understand criticizing Apple for not including a USB-C cable in the box after pushing it so heavily on the MacBook / MacBook Pro, and the fact that most of Apple's competitors have embraced it, but the truth is that most of the USB ports in existence are still USB-A.

Existing chargers, in-car USB ports, even Apple's current-model Mac Pro from 2013 - all USB-A. I don't have a single device with USB-C yet. Would rather hang on to my 2012 Retina MacBook Pro with a built-in SD card slot and other more useful (to me) ports.

If they included a usb-c cable the ~90% of apple users that havent bought a new computer yet will get really angry...

And those 2012 ports are really absolutely not more useful

... But overall, bleh, I don't need to shell out about a $1,000+ for new versions of products I already have with very minor improvements.

1. Going from iPhone X to XS MAX is no minor improvement, and for me, an excellent reason to upgrade. Bigger text, bigger photos...

If you don't like the bigger phone, then I agree, there's not much reason to upgrade from X.

2. Series 4 has a third bigger display. For aging eyes, again, an excellent reason to upgrade, especially from series 1, which is what I have.

Go for it!

Well, count me as one of the few on this forum that is excited to get the XS max. I think it seems like a pretty slick phone. I'm worried I'll miss the finger print security, though. I haven't met anyone, yet, that likes the face ID stuff.

I am also super excited to pick up a new apple watch. The heart health features are amazing.

Wow, I cannot believe how badly Apple is gouging everyone. 64gb entry level? $299 for a freakin insurance plan? Even the carriers are cheaper with their monthly damage/theft/loss plans. $1400+ for the top tier phone? Don't get me wrong, they will sell them in record numbers and I'll be first in line to buy a Xs max, but this is going to be the first year that I will most likely keep my phone for 2 years instead of trading it in every year for a new one. I would have just kept my 2017 X, but it's too small and I really was looking forward to something larger. I've purchased iphones every single year since the 2nd year they were out, but probably not this time around. I wonder if the market will contract like this and see many more consumers keeping their phones for 2 or even more years because of the sky high prices.

I was watching the keynote in one window, and aapl stock in another realtime.
So it started trending up when they talked about the watch, peaking right before they talked watch price.
Then straight downhill, the phones kept the downward spiral.

Looks like Wall St. is tired of Apple's lack of innovation. Think it's time for Tim Cook to go before he fully transitions Apple into a services only company.

I think Apple showed some great products today (far better than last year), but we are still notably missing the new iPad Pro, Mac Mini, updated Airpods and Airpower. Also, where the heck is the Macbook / Macbook Air? Seems to me like Apple may be doing something they haven't done in years: October or November events.

October 2020?

Me exactly. I have a 7+ and series 1 watch. I didn't get the X because I wanted a larger version so now that's available I'll most likely upgrade.... The Xr looks pretty damn interesting though.....

The new xs max should have been the price replacement for the x with the smaller one less expensive but we continue to see an Apple that is obsessed with that honey pot of cash and control.
.

What blows my mind is that Apple had to cut back production of the iPhone X earlier this year because the $1,000 phone wasn't selling as expected. And, how do they adjust? By reintroducing the $1,000 phone with a bigger brother for $1100. Crazy.

I guess it's a blue 128K iPhone XR for me. Same Apple Update Program price as my iPhone 8s. More storage / new features.

iPhone X released in November 3, 2017<<<<<good job Tim Cook for discontinue a model that is not even a year old it has become clear Time Cook is not about Tech, Innovation or what consumers want it's about his wallet size.

Tech hardwares usually last 3-4 years as is why Applecare only adds 3 years of support on top of the 1 year free warranty so this is a first for Apple to kill off a iPhone before it turned a year old.

6 minutes is about how long the event needed to be. Do we still need an event for this sort of thing? I own a ton of apple products and generally like them but these events now seem to be trying a little too hard.

Have to say I think the die shrunk to 7nm CPU/GPU was one of the big things today - some surprises - it looks awesome - may be one of the big reasons for the better power usage on Xs compared to last year.

I think Intel is still stuck (except for a couple of CPU's) at 14nm.
Yeah, Intel really need to hurry up and get 10nm out, or skip it and focus on getting 5nm out on time. Although it's not as bad as 7nm vs 14nm, as they are just marketing terms. In reality, Intel's 10nm (when they do get it out) will be similar or better than the 7nm of other foundries.

But back on topic, I was really looking forward to getting my first iPhone, and maybe an Apple Watch too. But considering those prices, not sure if I can justify it. Spending AU$2050 (US$1470) on the iPXSM for the cheapest model without gimped storage levels (256) is a very hard pill to swallow.

And when it comes to the iPhone XR, it's darn hard to justify spending AU$1300 (US$933) on the 128GB 'lesser phone'.

Honestly, I think most of the old fans have moved on from Apple. We weren't trolling, we were venting frustration at the death of the Apple we loved. Even the faintest hope of a redemption is dead.

There's really not much to say, today's keynote speaks for itself. Apple is now nothing but a cheesy toy company for the under 25 crowd. Profitable now, but a very dangerous spot long term.

Amen. Now only if Google material design on android wasn’t still worse than the unnecessarily reinvented UIx of iOS 7-11, the move would be easier to stomach. Now the choices feel like crap or crap.

Apple’s keynotes over a decade ago were special and were differentiators. Now with everybody copying and doing keynotes, Apple needs to cut down the pomp and circumstance and come up with a “new” way, maybe just rolling out good products quietly and letting them speak for themselves, almost, instead parading out meh updates with fireworks.

Series 3 watch already detects high heart rate, you are telling me it can’t do a low heart rate too and needs a new optical monitor? Give me a break. That should have been added in WatchOS 5 for everyone. The Stanford Apple Heart Study also proved older watches could detect Afib, so again seems like BS to make it series 4 exclusive. I get that ECG and Fall detection require new hardware but it is annoying when Apple holds features back and bumps the price significantly.

After buying the Essential phone I really haven't missed jumping ship from Apple. Maybe aside from CarPlay. It even got Android Pie on day 1.

Could be because the rumors revealed most of the details in advance, with even a couple accidental leaks from Apple themselves contributing to it...

The only big details the predictions / rumors largely got wrong were: the Xs price ($100 higher than expected), and the inclusion of a USB-C fast charger (nope).

I purposely did not pay attention to the rumors this cycle at all. What got announced was surprisingly Meh.
[doublepost=1536805245][/doublepost]So how many iphone X owners are going to be upgrading?

I plan on milking my X for a couple more years...

THIS is me. With these price trends, a 3 year use is a crime. And if no more right-sized phones appear (SE), I’m just not feeling the love much more as before and willing to vote with my wallet.

Yeah for a company that is now primarily a mobile phone company they sure aren’t offering many options. I’m fine with them having a super high end phone. But why don’t they have an option for us folks who don’t want a $1,000 or giant phone? I still like the Apple ecosystem but I don’t like it enough to buy a $1,000 phone or a three year old phone that is still expensive.
