Let’s face it. WWDC was boring.

If you think about it, WWDC is for developers (it's in the acronym) and really isn't about new hardware products per se. In theory, if you're not a programmer, it could seem boring.

Personally, what I look for are game-changing productivity features such as Spotlight, Dashboard (RIP), Time Machine, Notes, iCloud - features that change the way you do things and make you more productive instead of giving you outlets to waste time. I guess the AI stuff could be considered game-changing but so far it hasn't changed much for my workflow.

One could argue that Apple is more about pleasing the pedestrians these days (esp. with iOS) rather than a focus on people who use their Mac for productivity. The reason is simple - there are more pedestrians to sell iPhones to, and that equals profit.

And the 26 designation is just the typical corporate stupidity of having tomorrow’s tech today. It’s nonsense. So iOS26 is the 2025 release.

Car manufacturers have been doing this for a long time. Should start there with the complaint.

I think it's named '26 is because they won't get the features finished and bugs ironed out until a year later. ;)

I've been so busy lately that I forgot the WWDC keynote was yesterday. Now that I'm reading the news about what was announced at the conference, it feels like the event never even happened.

We are in the "Lipstick on a Pig" phase of Apple Software. This time it's really true--Liquid Glass is cool, but where are the fixes and upgrades to existing essential apps like
But wait, let's think deeper about the new UI and not look at where Apple has been, but where it could be going. The liquid glass comes from Vision OS. A transparent/ translucent UI for Vision OS makes sense. A three dimensional UI also makes sense. Is this a hint at where Apple is going with vision based wearables?

Also we've been seeing a convergence in UI between iOS, MacOS, and iPadOS for the last ...10 years? If you take away the built in screen from these devices, does it further blur the lines of differences between them?

Hmm.....

I found the event unbearable. So artificial, so lacking in interest, emotion, or credibility...
I'm only talking about the event. I even wasn't able to watch it all.

Watching Craig driving that tiny car but being passed by a bicycle rider was everything you needed to see unfortunately.

Remember Apple bought FileMaker which had a really cool, easy to use database program called Bento. Apple still owns FileMaker, but never added a database app to their productivity suite.
I used Bento and then they killed it. It was nice at the time.

OK, please list a few things that you would like to see implemented. I see lots of complaints in this thread, many with merit, but fail to understand what do you want? What features are you missing that would make a difference?

Marques Brownlee has a more psoitve view...

Ability to mass delete messages on Apple Watch.

Siri able to respond to simple requests as fluidly as it did ten years ago.

Always on Display that isn’t buggy and doesn’t work with location based focuses correctly.

Want more?

Another WWDC, another round of disappointment that there STILL is no Apple Music widget for macOS. I'm starting to accept it will never happen

As a non-developer, I'd love to experiment with betas IF I had an extra iOS device that I could render less reliable. With my sole phone, even the fall formal iOS introduction is painful: battery sucking is the predictably painful, annual malady that afflicts my phone with every iOS XX.0.0 installation, until the 0.1 update a week later. Yes, I'd love to test new functions in betas, but I can't imagine compromising a key communications and productivity tool for so long.
That's fair. I don't really use my iPad mini during the summer since it is mostly for school work, and I have my Mac mini as a backup, so I went for it. So far, some old bugs, like downtime's glitchy repetition when you tell it to ignore, are gone, but there's plenty of visual bugs to get ironed out, such as icons being in the wrong place and the location to tap still being where the icon should be. I totally understand what you mean though.

I'm not quite sold on the new UI design yet. It's like they're trying to make everything even harder to read. Maybe they'll tone it down a bit for subsequent beta releases. One can hope.

yea, tend to agree. today (13PM and U2) I have "reduce transparency" turned on, for a reason.
But, I'll hold final judgement when I can actually see it on a real device, photos don't do it justice

Having used Alfred and, more recently, Raycast, I’m genuinely happy to see some of that flexibility finally coming to Spotlight. Apple is really the only company with the resources (and system access) to build something so deeply integrated into the OS.

I also appreciate that apps can now tap into on-device machine learning — even when offline. That’s a meaningful step forward.

And yes, cosmetic changes are always welcome too.

Like what….
Let's see.....the new utility and functionality coming to iPadOS. The Files revamp looks great and effectively eliminates all the whining people have complained about for eons. Windowing, the menu bar, the iPhone app just for starters. The new liquid glass look is excellent across all OS's.

I could go on but looking at your reply ( #78) I have a sneaking feeling you'll poohpooh away anything I say.

I'm convinced that there is a segment of folks who would get behind anything Apple announces.

"The new solid brown wood interface -- across the lineup! Everything looks like fine grained luxury wood now, just like in Tim's house!"

"Yay Apple! I love this! So fresh and vintage and real looking!"
And then there's those on the other side of the coin for whom Apple can't do anything right no matter what they do. These people and their screeds are getting really quite tiresome to read.....

Great, an entire year and that's the best they could come up with.

The Surface is a tablet running a computer OS... Has been for years.
The Samsung Tablets have had Dex for years.
Apple could've solved the issue years ago by putting MacOS on the iPad

The new OS is ugly. Looks like fish tank bubbles with text inside of them and a lack of contrast so some text isn't readable. It's now designed for teenagers... Congrats.

Your bar and expectations are set way too low.

There is something about these slick presentations with the fake backdrops that is fundamentally irritating.

No, “everyone” is not arguing with me, and I don’t see any thumbs up on your post. Most people agree that slamming MacOS on iPad is a bad idea.

You are wrong.

I hope there’re some accessibility options that can make UI easier for eyes.

yea, good business analysis Pedersenko!! im sure Apple could use your expertise on how to maintain a multi trillion dollar corporation and which business decisions to make.

Keep it up and spread the word! The more people that think this way, the cheaper the stocks get😍
That’s the point, it’s hard to turn if you want to remain 3tn big corp. look at GE, Nokia and dozens of others.

I view apple as 5 product company (but in reality it’s just iPhone). If smth happens to 1-2 of them, you can indeed see stock plunging.
You would never know until you see it happening

Does anyone know if ipad os 26's new pointer will come with improvements to text editing like selecting text? I've always found it clunky on ipad.
