This is a funny one 'cant put the desktop icons where you want them' - is your finger broken???

Please show me/us how you put two rows of icons on the top - and then have a space for two rows - and then only two icons in the the fifth row one on the far left and one on the far right - and then one icon in the center of the sixth row.

This is easy as pie on Android and constitutes being able to put the icons where you want them.

it is INSANE how many things Apple has finally started to put in the iOS for their stuff after all the cool jailbreak options. Why fight a war you can't win with the jailbreak community when you can just listen to the users and give us what we want?

Sure, there are still other cool tweaks you simply can't get with a walled OS but more and more, they are bending the knee to the true winners of the war. If they just give us what we wish to see, there would be no need to jailbreak, for the most part.

I could never understand why they couldn't open up the sort of stuff that Jailbreakers developed and basically sell tweaks that they could approve through the App Store. People would get the devices more personalised for how they wanted to use them without potentially affecting their warranty while Apple and developers could make money on it. Same way I don't understand why they haven't opened up Apple Watch faces to developers to sell in the Watch App Store.

Its still in beta, WOW.
It's almost August. I've never seen a tent pole feature this busted this late in the game. I figured I would bring it up because I don't see many people talking about it and it's concerning.

Lol, if you think there’s something “common” about an 8 person family... not wanting to share a few photos, but literally wanting the EXACT same camera roll on all devices... ummm, I hate to break it to you; but the 1st thing I thought (or can imagine anyone else thinking), is “wow, that is super weird”.

Like there’s either some severe next-level co-dependency issues, deep knit into the entire family (very unhealthy), or... (probably a lot more likely), you’re an extreme control freak that imagines your family enjoys total lack of privacy, choice, & wants an identical camera roll on all 8 devices.
I can assure you... they do NOT.
If nobody has let you know that yet:
Work on communication too.
Maybe they’re scared to tell you?
There’s WAY too much to unpack in your story than to worry about iCloud storage!
I’m trying to imagine a world where an entire family has zero individual experiences & literally every single thing any of them experience is 100% communal with the entire family...
I guess cult members, living on a compound, that are disallowed communication with the outside world springs to mind... but I hardly think this could be “common”.

I concede that there are problems with sharing ONE camera roll ALL the time, but in my family of six we have 20 years worth of childhood photos and videos that EVERY member of the family would appreciate.

Is there a way to share these aside from copying them to each account 6 times? That is a LOT of storage. Once the kids come of age and move out that problem is solved, but until then...

FWIW, I haven't attempted to investigate this recently. Several years ago I just put all the family photos in a shared directory, but it's a PITA to keep updated so I quit trying.

Public Beta 4 is now out

I don't remember that. But Apple's volume always bothered me like crazy.

PS I am probably older than you are ;)

I'm old enough to remember that the Apple ][ had no volume HUD, nor did the TRS-80.

I wish the volume slider was like „floating“ on the screen and you could move it anywhere. I would prefer it on the right side of the screen for example. Trying to expand my finger to reach it on the iPhone XS Max makes me almost drop my phone

I wish the volume knob on my TV would randomly float around, too. Would make a fun game during those loud explod-y scenes.

why are the sharesheet recomendations only apple apps? I "Messenger" the same person constantly, but it never shows that recomendaiton. Is that an API?

Scroll all the way to the right and hit 'Manage'

If you have iCloud, you could make a shared album & put them in there; only a thumbnail of each would go to the 5 devices you shared to... when they view them, only then would they d/l from the cloud, so they’d take virtually no space.

I haven't have my new to me 11" iPad Pro very long but I am very much looking forward to having more apps on one screen. On my phone I like to have almost everything in folders, with just my most used apps out of folders, everything on one screen. I set up the iPad Pro the same way but there is so much screen real estate that it just seems wasteful. Looking forward to iPadOS!

Apologies but there are nearly 200 comments if this has been mentioned but the main article not updated to reflect this change.

Home app no longer shows the temperature for temp sensors, it now just shows a thermometer icon and you have to tap to see the temp and press settings from there to see humidity.

Not an improvement on the super small text introduced in iOS 12 when they added the decimal point. Let’s hope they are working on improving this further.

“Someone’s strength can sometimes be his/her hurdle”.
I think this is highly determined by the fact that Apple thinks “I know the best”. Ford’s “not relying on market research” strategy might still work today, but neglecting customer altogether disconnects the community and the company. As much as I want to say “customers carry no value”, without customers, Apple will not survive, probably so does all of their shareholders investing Apple.
Now that Ive has left, maybe sometime Apple will change. Only time can tell.

Just for reference: 3200 photos with optimised storage on iOS takes 4GB space just to store thumbnail on device.

Yeah, I find nobody bother updating the main thread, but keep piling up the comment section posting their new findings and reporting bugs. Maybe OP should copy past whatever available from last thread just for convenience sake.

No, I agree there are valuable things in the new iOS. But it pains me to see window dressing items in there while real functionality that could make things easier for people go wanting, release after release. Yes, I am very aware of shared albums. I detailed our situation in my reply to Diane B, please read if you're interested. I've spoken to many and seen many forum posts of folks who are in our exact situation (basically sharing your entire photos library & just-taken photos to all devices effortlessly). It just feels like it wouldn't take too much effort to implement the changes I am suggesting. It also feels like apple has designed this particular feature in a way that potentially forces you to pay for more iCloud storage.
I see, yes you would have some initial work to get all current photos there. But you can also share iCloud space when you get the larger version (200gb or greater) with the family as shared storage. Not that this will resolve your issue with Apple doing what you want, but you may want to look into OneDrive. That functions automatically too when photos are taken they automatically upload and you could share the ID with family so all photos would go there. Actually works pretty well. Just an option you may want to look at.

Not sure which connect app you’re taking about.

I think they only rebranded it over here. It used to just be called “Car-Net” but now it’s “We Connect”. It was renamed alongside a total overhaul of the app. Even shows the correct color of your specific car too. Just a shame it’s broken on iOS 13 so far!

Still didn’t answer my question ;)
Does this setting switch between the regular (old) icon size and the smaller (new icon size)? Or is it only about either smaller or bigger icons than what we have in iOS 12?
Basically "smaller" is the new iOS13 size (prior to beta 5) and "bigger" is the iOS 12 and earlier size.

Anyone else having issues sending large texts with images via SMS (green bublbles) not iMessage? When sending SMS images, I'm sometimes getting the not delivered error. I suspect it has something to do with how strong my connection is. I tried sending from my gym and it failed, but I was successful sending from home on a very fast connection.

Most of us long ago cast out the green-bubble-people from our lives.

Short of course of those who might not have something like unlimited messaging included in their plan, it's quite likely that most don't really care much about that.

34 seems like a strange increment for the volume...

100 / 32 = 3.125
100 / 33 = 3.03
100 / 34 = 2.94
100 / 35 = 2.86
100 / 36 = 2.78

One would think an even division would make more sense.

100 / 25 = 4.00

What is the increment in the current release? I count 16 increments. So maybe this is an effective doubling (32)?

That is correct. I just counted it on my iOS 13 install. It bottoms out at 1, and then goes up to 32 (double the old number of increments). It's super annoying now because it's way too granular. The workaround is simply to double press what I'm used to doing.

Only bugs I've discovered (and reported through the Feedback app) so far:
  1. Took several attempts, and a restart, to rearrange app icons on the home screen because they'll float and hover but they won't stick, and then just snap back to where they were before
  2. Similar behavior with Calendar events - cannot drag them to a new time (regardless of account type: Apple or Google)
    • Workaround: events can be stretched, so you can "inchworm" them to where you want them
Otherwise, it feels really fast and smooth (not grading on a curve because it's a beta either), and I only had 2 very old apps that had issues: GateGuru and SPL Meter (both are basically abandonware).

This is my first iOS 13 install, and after testing it with every app (100), I don't see myself rolling back to iOS 12.

That said, would love to disable the long press entirely (as I did with 3D touch) because the context menu is pretty pointless, and just adds an annoying layer of friction that slows me down.

I love the grid adjustment. I feel like I'm the only one who didn't like the look of the smaller icons. But I guess not.
I didn't like the smaller icons either.Glad they have given the option to switch back.I am also not a fan of having widgets on the home screen.
