So some users aren’t caught by surprise when the cameras on the iPhone 13 Pros do what they are designed to do.
Do you have an iPhone 13 Pro?

My 13 Pro Max changes to the Ultrawide camera when an object get about 2 ft to my phone. Which is a huge PITA as the Ulrawide camera isn't anywhere near as good as the Wide camera. I'd have thought that the ultra wide would kick in when an object is around 10cm from the camera.

No, they will add 60Ghz proprietary short range wireless transfer found on Apple Watch to enable “wireless file transfer” rather than caving in and adding USB-C port, even if EU mandate it. Worst case scenario, they leave EU market and call it a day.
Lol.
The EU market is bigger than the US.

Judging by the estimated file size of 1.7GB for a minute of 1080p, I'm assuming this is ProRes 422 HQ? Can anyone verify

I have the same experience on my 13 Pro, and I completely agree.

UiScrollview is lovely. The rest not so much. Bizarre they released it like this.
I thought 15.0.1 would sort it. Yet here we are in beta 3 of 15.1 and it’s still an issue.

I’m starting to think it’s gonna stay this way.

God I really hope not. I wanted them to fix it sooner rather than later because I only have a day left to return mine, I think I might return it because now I’m worried they may end up not fixing it at all.

You shouldn’t purchase a product for what it could be via software updates in the future, you should purchase it for what it is today and right now it is sloppy and amateur. Shame because the rest of it is pleasantly smooth. I just wish it was that way consistently.

I really don't understand why Apple chose to use a Settings toggle for the macro. To me the more intuitive thing would have been to put a flower symbol on the viewfinder that you would press when you wanted a macro shot.
TL;DR: You can disable the auto switching in settings and manually switch to macro mode by just using the UltraWide lens (.5x)

The toggle is in settings because its controlling a behavior not switching some “macro mode” on/off.

There actually is no “macro mode”. All the camera does is use the LiDAR to determine if you are too close to an object that is out of focus for the Wide lens. It then switches to the UltraWide lens while also using computational photography to get you a “macro Mode”.

One of the biggest complaints about this automatic macro feature was not only the noticeable switching between lens but also the lack of indication you’ve switched from Wide (1x) to UltraWide (.5x) at the bottom of the camera viewfinder. In other words, even though it’s switched to UltraWide it will still show you (.1x)

Interesting. I did not realize that LiDAR was involved in the Macro mode shots. Makes sense now though. I also agree, it’s very odd Apple allows an automatic switch to Macro mode while not showing the switch from 1x to 0.5x in the view finder

I guess I'm lucky... AirDrop is working perfectly for me. The iPhone is within an arm's length of the M1 Mini, Handshake is quick, and transfer is a breeze. If I select multiple files the handshake is a bit longer, but the transfer is still just as fast.

About uploading to iCloud? Absolutely. There's no reason anyone should be trying to upload ProRes clips to the cloud. Cloud uploads already tend to be slow even on fast Internet connections.

As for USB though... It's not that bad. 40MB/s means about 25 seconds per gig. Certainly faster than anything you're going to get trying to go through iCloud. If you're shooting ProRes you're going to spend a lot more time editing than transferring your video.
For those of us who use iCloud for Photos, all my pictures AND videos get sent up. There is currently no switch to not send videos. I was asking if anyone knows if this has changed or will? Or at least a switch specific for ProRes.

I’ve had weird issues with Air Drop handling long 4K 60 Dolby clips. Been bumming me out. But I also have the same issues when trying to use the lightning cable. It’s just too much data for it. Gets weird.

So for now I simply wait for them to upload to iCloud. Since Photos is set to do so. “iCloud Photos” but as I’ve said in other posts, I fear what this might mean for full fat ProRes clips.

I've discovered that if you send videos to your Mac and then delete them from both the Photo Library AND Recently Deleted, it won't upload to iCloud. So just head it off right after you transfer it and you can probably evade the upload for now.

If Apple implemented real time 4K HEVC/AV1/VVC encoding support, now, anyone regularly shooting videos on their iPhone could actually benefit from that without the gargantuan file sizes.
What do you think it is doing when you record 4K video now, without pro-res, if it isn't doing realtime HEVC encoding?

Apple unnecessarily holding our hands by limiting 4K recording on 128gb. Yes, you can fill the drive up fast… we get it. Now let’s enable it if we want to.
Everyone does realize they are limiting 1080p too, right? (to 30 fps).

It is likely a hardware limitation w.r.t memory performance.

Silly question why is 24 desirable? Just the look it gives?
Because thats what cinema is shot in. It's not something you pick up on until you do a side by side test. record a bit at 60fps, and then at 30fps of someone walking or whatever. play them back one after another and you'll see what lower frame rates do for motion.
