maybe it's my imagination, after installing this beta on the 14 pro, force closing all apps, rebooting the phone. every apps seems to be opening and loading just a bit quicker..
Well, yes. It is your imagination. Plus your apps were already force closed when the update started - you’re just removing „history” of opened apps, so that actually did nothing.

Updating to public beta 5 now. Maybe it is just me but there have been so many items that are meant to be used that just doesn't work. For example, a beep to indicate that you can leave a vmail and oh yeah... when someone leaves a vmail you actually have to kill the phone app to see that you have a vmail restarting the phone app. o_O
Did you report the issues via the feedback app?

Felt the same way on my 14 pro. Might just be from the restart but the apps aren't as slow and laggy as they were last beta.

Yep. To this day I'm still wondering what's the freakin' point of this app.
As someone with depression I find it very useful to help me look back at times I was less depressed and what my mood was to help my mind go back to a less volatile emotional state. For the same reason I’m excited for the journal app whenever that launches.

Mood tracking will be used by less than 1% of users. Maybe if you're bipolar so you can show your doc a log... but otherwise. Who will use this? I'm not logging that on an app. If I am in a bad mood, logging it won't make it any better.

I bet journaling for a period of time might help people recognize their undiscovered issues with myopia and theory of mind.

Well, i don’t have depression, but find it hard to describe my current mood, if i’m not at an extreme state, like e.g. laughing.
Specially when it’s about e.g. the difference between “pleasant / slightly pleasant”, where is exactly the definition of/between those states, etc.

I am guessing it is for people who may want to track their consistency (or lack thereof) when it comes to depression. It could show a trend over time and hopefully, encourage people to possibly seek professional guidance and help.

Not everything has to be about whether or not you would use an app.

I found something recently, I think it was in beta 6.

  1. Open camera. Make sure Live Photos are on.
  2. Take a bunch of photos in sequence (10 is enough)
  3. Go to the camera roll
  4. Long press the first photo. The Live Photo becomes a video of every photo in the sequence. You can see the photos scrolling by in the bottom from beginning to end.

I've never encountered this before but was delighted by it. Did it exist before iOS 17? Is it announced somewhere?

I feel like I would only be tracking when I would be depressed, if I’m happy and feeling great, why would I want to look at an app that reminds my of times when I wasn’t, or even look at my phone really. (I’m not saying I only look at my phone when depressed, just that I don’t look at it when I’m feeling great)

I admit it was quite hard to describe at first but with practice I learn the distinction for me and log it as best I can.

That’s actually why I really like the feature because it’s really quick, takes like 30 seconds then I can go on with my day if I’m happy, and I have a log if I’m not feeling great to look back on and read really quick descriptions.

It’s already there in iOS 16 and I believe it was also in 15. I don’t think I ever saw it announced but also happened in it by mistake once after taking a bunch of consecutive Live Photos.

Thank you for this!!!! I often take many pictures of my kid, hoping to catch that “right” moment. I went back to my last burst mode session and it totally played back a video! This is the kind of delight that keeps me on iPhone.

It’s not designed to make you feel different. It’s about helping you spotting patterns. And then maybe a basis for getting help.
