Oh another one of my favorites, trying to make her skip the "sleep" alarm I have at 7 am usually works, but when it doesn't, boy does it fail spectacularly.

"Hey siri, don't wake me up tomorrow"
"OK I set an alarm for 00:00"

Imagine my surprise first time this happened and I haven't noticed. This was the closest my wife was to actually going Homelander and shooting lasers out of her eyes I've ever seen.

The new dictation on iOS 16 is so horrible I had to go back to 15.6 and I am never moving from there.

As for Siri. I couldn’t even define words anymore using Siri, that’s how broken it is. I could write a little booklet about all the reasons why I decided to give iOS 16 the finger.

I use Siri extensively, however it took me a LOT of TRIALS to learn how to use it and master it, but even then, it’s like having a toddler for an assistant. Every time I compare it to what Google can do in terms of dictation and the understanding of what I’m saying I am flabbergasted at the disparity, and kind of a wrap my mind around how Apple seems to be struggling so bad with this while Google makes it look like spreading melted butter.

Yea I was just saying before how she mostly sets a timer if I say "Hey Siri, fifteen minutes", but the other day she set a random alarm for days later. This morning she did in the middle which at least gave the same result. She set an alarm for five minutes later.

And LOL that would be my wife too.

I also noticed that when you summon Siri with AirPods, it makes a new sound… that’ll be interesting to get used to after years of hearing the *doo-da-doo*

Any beta testers around? Is Siri any better?

Honestly, I know Apple must be aware of the many problems with Siri and it’s backwards steps in functionality. I wonder if they just do the minimum to keep it running because it’s a free feature. So embarrassin. And how do they think we could trust our lives with it to run a car?

Anyone having issues with the English US Siri Voice 4 cutting out randomly. First I noticed it with shortcuts but now I noticed it when using apple maps. Can't understand it, it talks, then almost freezes. Didn't start prior to 16.

Before iOS 16 I think there was a setting to have Siri not respond out loud when asking for example to turn on the lights. Now she allways responds, which is annoying (or I have to put the whole phone in silent mode). Am I missing a setting?

I hate it when it's 11:30 at night and the HomePods blast "OK GOOD NIGHT, SETTING THE SCENE!" 🙄

And worse, she gets it wrong about 40% of the time. I'm better off getting my phone out, opening the favorites and tapping the scene. She gets it right every time when I do that. And she's quiet about it.

Dictation

Apple with iOS 16 entirely overhauled the dictation experience, making it easier to swap between voice and touch. When you're dictating text on the iPhone or iPad, you can tap into the text field and type with the keyboard to make edits and insert QuickType suggestions without having to stop the dictation process.

There's also a new cursor popover that's available when you're dictating text, and if you tap it, you can stop the dictation more quickly.
Dictation is still the same and it still sucks... what are y'all talking about? They just added a little icon, otherwise functionally it's still equally terrible.

Siri is awful. You know it’s bad when Rene Ritchie trashes it. I expected Siri to be so much better by now but it’s as if Siri has stood still all these years since Steve Jobs introduced it.
Siri works pretty well if you learn how to speak properly. Even if dictating to a person you need to talk a little slower and clearer. It would be best if you annunciated your words to make it clear what you are saying. Also, Siri learns over time. The more you use it the better it gets.

Siri doesn’t learn. My partner, who I call everyday, has 2 phone numbers: work and mobile. I ALWAYS call mobile. Yet, every week Siri asks me to call which number.

Siri learns but it doesn't presume. So I just got used to saying "Call (contact) mobile".

ahhh, the futures of Siri:

"Hey Siri, is teh Internets down?"
Siri: "No Idiot- The Window To The Den IS Closed, And Blocking the Air Play Signal, Dope!"

really
that windows need to be up so I can enjoy entertainment while downstair in the den.
so I ask Siri if the internets is working, or down Siri always replies "I can't answer that"

There’s zero evidence Siri is AI-based and learns anything based on your habits.
The one that is totally annoying is if I ask the LR Homepod to watch <movie> on D+, why does she ask me where??? I'm in the LR. Even worse is I will say living room, and she will ask what I want to play it on. I already said D+!!

I wonder if chatGPT will push Apple along to give Siri better functionality. I thought Siri would become awesome when Apple came out with the watch. After all, I reasoned, the screen is so small you have to be able to depend on Siri. Obviously I was wrong. With the AR and VR glasses and headsets I wonder if it will get better.

I wouldn’t say that Siri doesn’t presume. At least voice dictation does previous. it is always adding words that might frequently follow what I said, but I didn’t say them. so then I have to go back and delete them.
