I share notes with my wife, I use the web version on iCloud.com on my PC because why bother with my phone when I spend 9 hours in front of a huge monitor, right? It’s slow, the editor does strange things with line breaks when pasting text, edits occasionally gets mangled version of old and new content, I can’t add pictures, it’s a complete travesty…
Strategy, why cannibalize their OS tied Apps which partly leads to hardware sales?

Classic “Carrot and Stick” approach !

The updates to notes is great and super useful. I wish Apple would open that capability up to 3rd party apps like Notability, etc.

Please, just stop, I beg you Apple. Both apps are borderline unusable because of the last iOS “improvements” or maybe even last two. simple and useful apps now are cluttered and overfilled with unnecessary extra features, that makes using them for main purpose just terrible experience. gave up on Notes,I just use “Do!” for all note taking needs. Swear to God, next year they will stuff Home Kit comparability in Reminder app so you can see doorbells camera or something.
I think you are exaggerating a bit here and that Apple is doing a good job to keep it simple and as straightforward as possible. If you're not interested in all bells and whistles they are not in your face and you can use Notes just for taking notes.

The most infuriating thing about Reminders has always been that you can’t delete the reminder from the notification. Particularly irksome when you view the notification on Apple Watch and can’t delete it without first opening the app on iPhone. Ashamed to admit I only skim-read the article so don’t actually know if this will be fixed, but I doubt it.

So Notes with markup capabilities. Not bad, not bad at all.

On another note. Still no iCal integration? I mean...seriously Apple?

I live off of Notes and Reminders but I also use old hardware so I don't keep up with the latest versions. Some of these features are attractive though. The collaboration feature would be nice to use but nobody else in my family uses Notes. They all have iPhones and Macs but they don't use Notes and Reminders. Not really sure what they use so we just communicate with email.

Perfect example of how stupid Siri can be. Once she’s tripping, you can forget about it.

It’s seems she has some context awareness that goes wrong and thinks you’re having a conversation taking your previous requests into account.

or… it’s just Apple hoping you throw your phone out the window out of frustration and then buy a new one a couple of days later.

Nice, really like the smart folder and tagging in Note app on ios 15 and macos Monterey

Btw dont use smart folder on Montery if you dont use ios 15 on iphone :)

One feature I’m still missing in Reminders is the ability to have recurring items repeat not on a given date (e.g. “every Friday”) but on a given interval (e.g. “four weeks after I’ve completed the previous one”). That pattern is more suitable for non time-critical items like getting a haircut. The absence of that feature in Reminders prompted me to prefer GoodTasks which is just a little bit more powerful without being overly sophisticated.

As for Notes, I wonder if the tagging feature is now equivalent to Evernote’s labels. Does anybody have experience replacing Evernote by Notes? Is there an automatic import facility
Agreed! Reminders is useless for me without out a “repeat after completion” option. For example, let’s say you want a reminder to change your air filter once a month, but maybe you’re a week late when you finally get to it. You don’t want your next reminder to occur in three weeks, but rather four weeks from the time you completed it.

I also noticed the tagging will not allow 2 word tags…. Kinda odd

Sux a bit it seems if you press space after a word it will see it as the tag word, you can use underscore if you want to use more than one word ie"#apple_stuff"

Also seems reminder and note tagging is connected can use same tag in both app, see both good and band in that.

Reminders and Notes are slowly getting more useful.

isnt that the same as freqvens every week by 4 you can set? then you will get a notice every 4week from the date you set it.
You can even set that it should happen on a specific day in that 4week ie mon or tuesday etc.

I love Notes it has become my every day, essential database for stuff I either need on my phone, or all the varied items I need for work or personal interest. Only problem with tags is now I feel I have to redo my old folder organization to support tags. One of my favorite features in Reminders is the geolocation feature, there are shopping items I prefer from certain stores so I have reminders set for each time I go shopping there. Now with tags I can keep all those organized together which is a nice feature.

Nice, coming a bit closer to replacing One Note for me. I only wish they had a dedicated app for Windows. Yeah I know I can use the web interface, but it's still not as neat and clean as the One Note app. Plus there are times when I don't have web access.

I set reminders constantly using my Apple Watch and CarPlay. I love these changes that help with organization.

The ability to clear completed reminders are much appreciated. My reminder app is slow and I guess this is one of the reason.

Dang, I was hoping that they would fix it so reminders I already marked as completed on my phone don't keep popping up on my macbook until I clear them there also. Creating the reminders syncs, but completing them doesn’t. Even on latest iOS & macOS (or perhaps because I'm on the latest OSs).

I like the changes to Reminders. One of the reasons I continue to use Things is because tags and headings let me have many fewer lists than would be needed with Reminders. I find with my scattered brain things don't get lost if I have fewer lists, and it is easier to find what I need to focus on with tags and headings. There are things I like better about Reminders so I'm looking forward to giving this update a test drive.

As for Notes, until I can do simple things like drag bullet points to reorder them, I will have to stick elsewhere for primary note taking, though I do find myself using Notes more often for other things than I used to.

Oh thanks for the article, I forgot about the Deleting Completed Reminders. And here I was, this week, manually deleting items for a list over a year old. It would have saved me a lot of time.

And yes, these two apps are simple and yet incredible. I hope they can fix a few bugs, for instance on reminder, I like to add geolocations but it's not always straightforward: you need to scroll to add a customizable one, and something it suggests weird locations that have nothing to do with you. It keeps "when you leave your vehicle" and "when you enter your vehicle" even though I DON'T have a vehicle. Anyway.

I may be in the minority here but I have a hard time remembering to even use the Reminder app.
I never opened it until about 9-10 months ago, but now there isn’t a single thing I don’t add to it and it’s probably the most important app on my phone and I would have a hard time living without it now.

cleaning, phone calls, every single task is in there with a schedule, including a separate list for all the shows, movies etc with release date as the reminder I want to watch. It’s made everything so much easier and I can’t believe I completely ignored it for so long.

I'm still hoping for Siri dictated notes on the freestanding cellular Apple Watch.
THAT would be great. Having said that - the Notes App has really matured and I use it quite a bit. With the recent improvement to Reminders - I use it all the time and it tracks annual things as well as To Dos for the family with task assignments.

This is good stuff.

Notes and reminders need
* Markdown!
* Links to and from entries
* Integration into each other
* Mail & calendar integration is also a disaster

Why can't I integrate a reminder into a note?
Why can't I link from a calendar event to a note?
Why can't I generate a note or reminder from a mail? Including backlink of course?

Hell, there is so much potential that Apple does not care of.

PLEASE, Apple!
