Are we so sure that the S7 is an upgrade over the A8? Yeah it's clocked higher and on a newer process, but it uses efficiency cores rather than performance cores and there are no benchmarks out there for the S chips except for JavaScript which it does terrible at because of throttling on the watch.

And even if it is faster why would you assume it would make Siri faster? The HomePod has always had a completely overpowered CPU.

I’d still love to see proper Dolby Atmos support using the ATV and AirPlay.

Currently the ATV has a special Config option for Dolby atmos on two HomePods, but that disables using the HomePods via AirPlay from any other device.

Of course the culprit is that AirPlay 2 is too limited and doesn’t support Dolby atmos.

Ideally we would be able to use any amount of HomePods for Dolby atmos rendering, including the TV speaker as a central speaker.

Someone tell me how I’m supposed to feel. I can’t say this is good or I love apple, I can’t say this is bad or the shareholders will eat me alive.

Apple is still printing money yes, but for how much longer on these mistakes that keep being made in product design flaws and a cheap quick way to save a buck.

When the original homepods came out, I was impressed. Unfortunately, over time Apple continued to push updates that made them less reliable. You would think that over time they would improve, but with this particular product, updates made them worse. With the last HomeKit fiasco I’ve given up on these damn things’. Software is not Apple’s strongest suit… anymore. 🤷‍♂️

For the price, along with current WiFi it should also have a network cable line in so you don't have to bother with WiFi if you don't want to - its a large $300 speaker, not a $50 tiny one.

Still an odd bird. It'll sell, but would have sold better with a few inexpensive choices Apple chose not to make.

WHO CARES??
`seriously though, and back to non shouty lower case like civilised people....

Of all the requests/faults/enhancements.... how on earth is saying 'hey siri' a problem - and why would the ability to change it to 'hey dave' or suchlike be of any material benefit?

The only thing I can think of is if parents have been cruel enough to name their child Siri (I mean who would) then its a bit awkward but join the line behind all those named Alexa which was a common name before Amazon monopolised it!

When I had HomePods I could never call my wife "sweetie" or Siri would respond.

Did not realize until now the latest Apple Watch only supports 802.11n and not ac or x. The fact that the both the new homepod and mini uses an S series chip like on the Watch has got to be the reason it's limited to n.

Wow that's just crazy. 802.11n Wi-Fi is not as efficient as 802.11ac and even 802.11ac is pretty old now. 802.11ac chips are super cheap, so why have they done this?
Probably because it's integrated in the S7 SoC and therefore they can save a bit more.

No bluetooth support? Oh no, given that bluetooth generally has little bandwidth for audio, and airplay via wiFi is far superior., why is this even a mention?

because after all these years... people still cannot and will not accept that apple has its own enclosed ecosystem.

Im good with it! I enjoy the benefits that comes with that and I have all apple kit anyway.

If you want a bluetooth speaker... and you maybe want to use it with an android phone or suchlike.... then get a bluetooth speaker - there are thousands on the market but the Apple HomePod will always and forever be an apple product for apple products to interact with.

My dog’s name is Sadie, and when I say “Hey Sadie!” I get dog barks and a “what was that?” From whichever Apple product decides to activate Siri. I’ve had to change how I call my dog LOL.

It’s been downgraded but is 100 too expensive still.
Curious. sounds like a better value and a comparable speaker to the Sonos five which is $549, and a better Speaker than the Sonos One at $219 (better speaker - higher price, generally). So you are saying that they should also have gone with only 1 tweeter and made some other downgrades to get the price lower? Good to know. You could also get a crappy amazon speaker for less (oh wait, they aren't selling well, that should tell you something).

Honestly, it's a total deal breaker to not have basic Bluetooth audio in. Line in would be nice too (for us luddites who still have a <gasp> classic iPod) but understandable. Really, why limit the input sources? BT is so easy to implement, its like they are still actively pushing people away from using it as much as they possibly could.
