Wow just watched The Verge video review... terrible review honestly. There was some good info in there about slowness etc, but honestly it was more his opinion on the smartwatch in general not in particular the apple watch. I thought he did a really terrible job with it honestly.

Didn't sway me one bit. 42mm SS with white sports band here I come.

Feeling a little flat about it all but will still be getting the SS. At the end of the day, if I am still wearing it after two weeks (if not, it will be returned), then I want it to be something I find visually appealing to me too.

I'm not entirely sure that the first few pics that they list are of the same watch as the rest of the pictures. The coloring is very different, even the crown coloring. The later pictures do show what appears to be a gray watch, more like the picture from the other poster.

I know you are skeptical, but, it is, without a doubt, the space grey sport model.

If you need any more convincing, they do not sell the sport band in the "space black" model, nor offer one in the collection. In that specific event, bands were not allowed to swapped out between the watches as people tried them on, too.

I reached out for extra confirmation, though. I'll let you all know.

I guess if it is the same watch, it would have had to have been a very severe/weird lighting situation that completely obstructed the coloring, because normally a space gray wouldn't look matte black like that. I don't think those first few pics are what you would see taking it out of the package in normal conditions.
