EVO 4G owner would NEVER switch back to an iPhone

But the battery life just blows, unless you go hardcore with those extended 3500mz batteries, that need a different case because it is so big sticks out the back, makes the back of the phone look 9 months pregnant, and to me that is just ridiculous, makes the phone a true brick at that point.

The positive is ... one less person crowding the Apple Stores.

Enjoy your EVO

Android user here.

There are three things that keep me from trying an iphone

#1. Itunes. Itunes blows and you NEED it to get anything on and off of the phone. Get rid of iTunes and you're half-way to attracting other smart phone users.

#2- Apple's walled garden policy. Since jailbreaking is available, this is more of an annoyance than anything else... but allowing people to use their devices as they would like to would really eliminate the #1 complaint that people have with Apple's products

#3 - The users. The final reason I would not buy an iPhone is because I would not want to be lumped in with the other 70-million people who own the SAME EXACT PHONE...

1. iTunes is awesome, and the ability to manage the phone through iTunes is one of the biggest reasons I prefer the iPhone to all other smartphone platforms. However, I can agree that requiring it seems silly.

2. Apple takes the position that when they control the hardware, the software, and the app process, the result is an integrated product which provides a better experience than a product put together by different manufacturers. IMO, they are right - for the majority of users. I know quite a lot of people with iphones, and most of them don't even use it for much more than a phone/internet/email/camera/ipod. So they don't even touch most of the built-in features on a stock iphone, let alone have the urge to jailbreak. For those who really like to tinker, there's no question that Apple's policies can feel constraining.

3. Sorry, but that's pathetic. I buy the phone that works the best for me, and I don't really care whether 100 thousand other or 100 million other people have it or who they are. What difference could it make to my usage and my life whether the other people who use my brand of phone are grandparents, techies, rock stars, hipsters, businessmen, or whatever?

I don't own an EVo because I am not on sprint but I do own an HTC Droid Incredible on Verizon. I can tell you that I also purchased an iPhone 4 on Verizon launch day. I put it on a second line. Prior to that I was carrying an HTC Inc, and a BB Storm 2. One week prior to the iPhone release I swapped the BB Storm 2 with a guy on Craigslist for an HTC Droid Incredible and 2 days before the iPhone release I sold the HTC Inc, for the same price as I paid for my 32gb iPhone 4. So now I am carrying an HTC Inc on the Primary line and an iPhone 4 on the secondary.

I can answer this very fairly as I have been on AT&T in the past and owned the 1st gen iPhone and the iPhone 3g. If it came down to only being able to own only one device it would be the Android. I don't say that because I don't like the iPhone I say that because I honestly believe the Android OS is much more flexible in the things you can do. I own an iPod Touch as well so using the iPhone 4 feels kind of old hat anymore. Almost makes the iPhone 4 kind of boring.

I will now sell the iPod Touch and carry around two devices instead of three. So for me it became a matter of consolidating devices.

I own an EVO and while it has been a fantastic device and I really throughly enjoy using Android, I think iOS just plainly has what I need at the moment right now. I want good battery life, excellent cameras(especially in low-light situations) and the ability to sync over my existing iTunes library and photos in a seamless manner. No doubleTwist or third party extension or etc.

And as always, its just about what each user wants. Who knows, maybe next year Android will meet the criteria i'm looking for and I'll go to that, or maybe I'll hit up WP7. The market is changing too fast to tether to one particular OS.
