Exchanging fans for new/quieter ones cMP 2009-2012

Hello.

Is it possible to change the stock fans in the Mac Pro, with some from another brand? Maybe some more effective fans or quieter fans, by another brand possibly?

I'm specifically thinking about the Power Supply fan and the Expansion Slot fan as I think they are a bit noisy.

From what I remember last time this came up, despite looking like 4-pin PWM fans, they use proprietary signalling so are not directly compatible with standard PWM PC fans.
