The redesigned MacBook Air with the all-new M2 Apple silicon chip will be available for customers starting Friday, July 15, MacRumors has learned from a retail source.

The new MacBook Air was announced and previewed during WWDC earlier this month, with Apple stating availability will begin in July. The MacBook Air features a redesigned body that is thinner and lighter than the previous model. Thanks to the M2 chip, the MacBook Air features up to 18 hours of battery life, according to Apple. With a launch planned for July 15, pre-orders can be expected to go live on Friday, July 8.

The new MacBook Air starts at $1199, with the highest configuration costing $2499. The previous M1-powered MacBook Air remains in Apple's lineup for $999 for customers looking for a cheaper option.

Let’s hope the base model doesn’t suffer from the slow SSD issue.

I bet it will have the same chip. Apple probably ordered up all 256GB chips to streamline production...

The performance will still be excellent for the target market for this machine. If you're doing mainly MS Office, web, Netflix type stuff, the slower (but still very fast SSD) will barely be noticeable. At worst, you'll have time to go to the refridgerator between Final Cut Exports (and you need longer than that you should be on a M1 Pro/Max/Ultra).

BTO is going to take months, considering BTO MacBook Pro M2 takes at least 2 months to arrive depending on config. I’m not surprised if the availability is so low some people need to wait half a year to get theirs.
Meanwhile, the base model is always the one with most stock available comparatively, which says sth.

Hoping for a pre-order date before the 15th. If not, Apple should update their “Available in July” messaging on July 1.
