Agreed. I want to like Tile, and the concept is fantastic, but they never work when I need them to.I want this. Tile is unreliable as hell!

Not a game changer. Many other trackers already do this.I would buy these in a heartbeat if they work like the upcoming update for Apple computers. If any nearby iPhone can ping the tags so you can locate it when you're not nearby, that would be a game changer.
Assuming this will probably work offline using the crowdsourced “Find My” through other people’s devices (like announced in the keynote) this should be a big hit. I totally see myself sticking this thing somewhere in my bicycle tube, another on my key ring, wallet, etc. provided it’s small enough. This would significantly increase the chances of finding your stuff in case it’s lost or stolen.

So similar to Tile, and other trackers. I mean, exactly the same expect with unfair advantage. Are they inviting getting themselves in another protracted lawsuit?
I mean as a consumer I want the best posible product regardless of who it’s from, and it looks like Apples integration will make it great, I just wonder about fairness.
Yes, there are. They work via the app on the phone relaying position data. ios and android. This is nothing new. Anyone who has the app is relaying data for the tracker.I doubt there are many trackers that can utilise crowdsourcing tracking via Apple devices.
they need to be a quarter the size of the Tile and have adhesive backing and cost $5 each
can i cut it in fours?Buy Tile and stick some glue on it. They’ll cost $5 after the Apple Keynote.
"Walk around several feet and move your iPhone up and down until a balloon comes into view," a string in the internal Find My app bundle reads.
So what you're telling me is that in the early morning hours when I'm searching for my keys, I will pull up my phone and see a red balloon floating there...very comforting...

I'll stick them on my kids at the fair!

The price has to be reasonable, don’t charge $50 for each one. I’d like to stick one of these in my wallet.

A lot. I don't know the exact number. Depends on the company. Tile being the largest. But keep in mind they work on both IOS and Android so you benefit from 2 different ecosystems. How many people have these tracker things? Compared to the total number of Apple devices in the wild most of which have “Find My” enabled this number is negligible. You want the best possible coverage if you really want to recover your things.
Lots of reasons. And the fact alone that it seems like something they should have added on Day 1, and still haven't after 5 years, should tell you exactly that. Why can't the Watch notify the user if it loses contact with the iPhone? That seems like something that should have been implemented long ago.
