Those "killer" features you describe... Apple spent about 3 minutes demonstrating Animoji during their September keynote. And they spent a total of 10 seconds on the iPhone X describing portrait mode and lighting.

Sorry, your assertion doesn't pass the sanity test. Either that or Apple has no idea how to market their "killer" features by sandwiching them towards the middle and end of their presentations.

I think you’ve missed the technological importance of those demonstrations and what it takes to do that. Is that specific implementation the selling point, no, is the technology in the hands of app developers to do something useful with it. Hell yes...

The supply of iPhone X is scarce, but the demand is also scarce. Many people overestimate the demand for the X, especially forum posters.

Outside of MacRumors and 9to5Mac, the typical iPhone 6 or 7 Plus owner isn't into the hype. Compared to an existing iPhone, the X performs the same functions differently. But not necessarily better, at least not in the eyes of most consumers.
Preorder units are essentially sold out. In about half an hour I might add.

I doubt there are 3 million members on MR.

I don't think that qualifies as scare demand.

Comparing the iPhone to Nintendo is laughable. The volume difference is no where on the same planet.

What do you mean? There are more/less smartphones than games consoles?

There are faaaaaar more smart phones on the planet!

I was shocked to see the wait is only 5-6 weeks, despite the devices retailing for $999+. This doesn't take the supply shortage rumors into consideration either.

The preorders were allowed in more counties for the iPhone which could mean Apple is finally getting better with supply. iPhone 6(32 countries) iPhone X(52 countries).

Will they sell more iPhone Xs than Nintendo sold Wii's over 2 or 3 years? 5-6 week wait doesn't seem to suggest they will.

I think the point is that Apple will sell FAR more iPhones in a few days than Ninitendo sells consoles within days of their launch. What does what Nintendo sells in 2 to 3 years have to do with anything? Are you comparing 2 days of sales to 2 years?

Nintendo sold over 100 million Wii's in around 3 years.

Will Apple sell 100 million iPhone X's in the same time?

Isn’t this kind of like being disappointed about not having a nuclear war?

Its more retrospective the more knowledge and data we have the better our predictions and estimates become as individuals. We can all say we've seen worse now. Beneficial to us all.
