Like a flour mill explosion perhaps? I am curious about what they use to create such an explosion: you'd think manufacturing such a product wouldn't have explosives, just flammables. That's horrible.
If a flammable material is in the form of dust filled air, then it is explosive. Controlling dust is important in many areas you wouldn't think of. What would be amazing is if there is any industry of significance that doesn't have to deal with fire and explosive hazards. And not just dust.

MacRumors ----> Human life is more important than ipad2 production, your handling of this story has left me disappointed in you.

When someone dies like this it is a real human tragedy, these people have families, maybe they have children, maybe they are the only bread winner and now the family is left with nothing.

Your focus of this story is mis-guided and dis-heartening.

It is obviously unclear at this point just how much of an effect the incident may have on Foxconn's iPad production capabilities.

I'm shocked you could even think of that when writing this article. Who gives a damn about the iPad production when we all know that thousands of people work in these places! Poor show Eric.

This a terrible thing for the People involved. Remember China does not have OSHA.

Families

This is terrible news for the families of those workers; I imagine that they're desperate for news and anxious to know whether their loved ones are alright.
No offense to MacRumors.com, but I would have thought that there would have been more emphasis on the concern and safety of the workers rather than whether or not a person gets their iPad 2 on time! Sheesh... are we that insensitive?

Seriously????

How about "it is obviously unclear at this point HOW MANY PEOPLE MIGHT HAVE BEEN MAIMED OR KILLED and our hearts go out to them and their families"

To be fair, the story said almost exactly that prior to the statement about production...

Not great timing, but they did already ask that question.

Really? This is the concern? Not a single line about injured and/or dead.

There actually is a single line That is what the word casualties means...

...we are not sure actually what cause the explosion and how many casualties had resulted...

Seems like a lot of people are just looking for an excuse to be upset. At least read and comprehend a story before decrying what is lacking.

Sooooooooo....

Didn't expect to see a headline like "dust explosion in electronics manufacturing plant". I guess all that hype about clean rooms and keeping particulates out of components during their manufacture is just a bunch of hollywood movie myth.

Wait, if you shake your iPad does it erase the screen? Maybe all that dust in there has a purpose.

Anyway, sucks to be a line worker in China, explosions or not.

adding my support.
i wish everyone involved all the best, and thoughts go to their friends and family.

my condolences fr the dead and hmmm...

y'know theroetically. if a terrorist syndicate were to bring down several chinese manufacture plants america and many other large countries would be at their knees. just food for thought aimed at the conspiracy dudes.

I hope the injured people manage to recover. I presume the exploasian will be big news in a matter of an hour, when more details come in.

Can't wait to hear Steve tell us about the explosive ipad 2 sells during the WWDC.

In all seriousness I hope corners weren't being cut in order to meet the demand of the iron fisted Apple.

Wow some people on here are just amazing. Get over yourselves. The loss of human life and the injuries are horrible, but that doesn't mean news can't include other details or questions.

When something bad happens are we not allowed to ask other questions about the incident and what other effects it will have? Are we supposed to ONLY focus on the loss of life and injuries? Time to bring yourselves back into reality. Most people can feel bad for the families of the dead and hope that the injured workers make a full recovery while still realizing that life goes on and wanting to and expecting to know more about the overall repercussions that the incident will have.

As for how the article was written... With the way the incident unfolded the injuries and death were not immediately known, that is why the info was not included right away. That's usually how it works with mass casualty incidents, it takes a little while for that info to get out. Does that mean that MacRumors or any of the other sites should have simply put up an article saying that there was an explosion at a Foxconn plant but not pose any questions about any fall out from the incident until they could give an exact count on the injuries and then give certain people here a short break so they could feel better about themselves before asking those questions? No

I am sure that more details will be posted as they are released and MacRumors gets a chance to update.

This is an Apple forum, not a humanity forum. The article is not offensive.

All of the outrage because they mentioned the production question at the end of the article is just weird. Anyone who is offended by this story needs to grow up after they climb off their high horse.

That's really terrible news. My heart goes out to those who have been injured.
