If this issue only affects the older model (Series 4, 5), then likely they will not do much about it....
I have a 7 series and do not see significant loss. Someone else here with a 7 series was complaining about charge loss. I suspect that it is much more about specific installations and software/hardware combos than just older or newer models.

Personally I do not use any third party app. I pretty much use the watch to check time and notification. There is no change in my usage pattern since I updated my phone to iOS 16 and Watch OS 9.

Charged up before bed last night 100%, bed at 9pm up at 5am 78%, I’ll go for a run soon that’ll take it to about 70%. I’ve reset, unpaired etc still the overnight battery drain persists. New SE btw.

Me too. I don't use 3rd party app. No change in usage.

I find that my Series 7 uses a lot of charge in sleep tracking.

I've got a series 7 and the battery drain is dreadful. Up to 10% an hour. Really making me want to stop wearing my watch.
Does unpairing actually make a difference?

I would try it. I have a series 7 paired to an iPhone 12 running 16.0.2 and the battery drain is not much different than with iOS 15.x. I charge in the morning and typically have 40-30% battery at bedtime and usually have about 20-30% left by morning. I do sleep tracking but I turn on theater mode to keep the screen off. I have most app notifications suppressed. The main notifications I do get are calendar and iMessage.

Just upgraded to 9.0.2 yesterday mid-morning. Battery was drained by 4pm. Fully charged and my watch was dead again by 6:30am in the morning. I haven’t changed use. Watch is almost unusable now. Before update my charge lasted at least 24 hours. Watch 7 watch is 9.0.2 and iPhone 13 iOS 16.0.3

I was out and about yesterday, the battery seemed to only go down 20%ish the between 9:30 and 16:30, but then went down when I got home

I have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about, but because it seems to drain more when I’m at home, I think it’s a WiFi issue

I have my sleep schedule set to 10:30p to 6:30a, no alarm.

Went to bed around 9:37, woke up around 7, battery drained from 96% to 82% in 9.5hr

That’s a lot more than usual. I typically start the day with 93% after charging to 100% the evening before.

Will have to keep an eye on this. I’ve always done sleep tracking in the past with Auto Sleep and Apple’s sleep tracking (since they first began offering theirs). If I continue to lose an an extra 10% I will have to disable one or the other and see if I can isolate what’s causing it. Of course it could also be a fluke the first night after updating to v9

I also noticed a major battery drain after watchOS 9. I own an Apple Watch Series 6 44mm GPS + Cellular (Nike Version), if before the update I started the day with a 92/93%, the morning after the update I saw 75%...but in the afternoon I had to charge it. The battery has 81% health status. With watchOS 8 I could do a whole day. I hope for a bug fix

I'm also finding this.

My Sleep Focus is from 11pm to 6am and typically, my S7 45mm watch would have around 93% battery upon waking but lately, I have seen the battery be as low as 75%?!!

My overall Battery Health is still on 100%.

Great
On the plus side, if it’s dreadful and affects a lot of people then Apple will have to address it

I did a controlled test yesterday:

8am full charge
Did 45 minute walk tracked with GPS
10pm it was at 50%
Did sleep tracking (Autosleep)
Theater mode was on to keep screen off.
6am 30%
8am 25%

Watch Series 7 with Watch Os 9.0.2
iPhone 12 mini with iOS 16.0.3

I put this out not because I am having trouble with draining but to show that it is possible to not have large drain with this software and hardware combination. I'm not sure what I'm doing differently other than having a limited number of notifications (mainly Outlook Calendar and iMessage).

For my case,

Full charge at 8am. At 6pm - 20%.

Apple Watch Series 4 (battery health 95%) paired with iPhone 11 Pro Max. Both on the latest OS version. Did not even turn on any workout tracking.
