@imacken: Test Mode - yes, please see my post above (signed driver option for Magic Trackpad 2 is coming soon). Drag lock works properly for me (but as per BC driver design, only in conjunction with 1-finger drag). Could you describe how exactly it wasn't working, can be very helpful. By the way: 3-finger drag is one of the top features of ExtraMagic and can be great alternative to other dragging methods. 3-finger drag smoothness and precision are significantly improved in the next build (coming in just a few days).
If you can dedicate just 5 minutes for one test, this can really assist our development. If you are still interested in getting it installed properly, could you contact me via email, I'll provide possible solution. Thank you.

Sadly, I'm unable to use ExtrMagic on my 2014 Retina iMac using a Magic Trackpad 1, Bootcamp 6 and Windows 10 Enterprise. Every time I reboot, I get the "cannot communicate with driver" error message, and the trackpad just does not work---not even its basic functionality is available (I had to plug in a mouse).

I would really like this to work! I wonder if perhaps Bootcamp 6 introduced changes in the way the trackpad is accessed. For instance, on older versions of Bootcamp, I believe I had to pair the trackpad in Windows. Now things work "automagically" (which is actually convenient---no need to re-pair every time I switch OS).

@Marciano: Does running the Step 2 of the installer again (one or two times after reboot) help? And is the 'Test Mode' message displayed in the corner?

@V-l-a-d-i-m-i-r thanks for the impressive customer service :)

No, it doesn't help. I tried twice and the same thing happened. As for the 'Test Mode' message, I didn't see it in the dialog where you run the two steps. There is a window that flashes quickly right before rebooting, but it's too quick to read what it says.

I'm having similar problems on Windows 7 w/ Magic Trackpad 2 on a PC. I have a Kinivo Btd-400 Adapter (looks to be the same as the Gymle recommended here and has the same BCM20702 chipset).

Before installing ExtraMagic, I'm able to pair and use the trackpad (one-button mode only!). After the ExtraMagic reboot, I get the "cannot communicate" error and the trackpad does not work at all. Device Manager says: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".

I can get the trackpad working again by removing the trackpad from Devices and Printers and re-pairing it. Running the ExtraMagic installer a second time has the same result as the first time.

Anything else I can try?

Er... @V-l-a-d-i-m-i-r ... my apologies: it does work, and it's awesome!

Here's the deal. As the instructions clearly say, it is important to pair the MT using the standard Windows procedure. For folks without a Mac, this is not a problem. However, if you install the Bootcamp drivers, you get the MT drivers as well and pairing works "differently." I think that was my problem.

After pairing the MT in Windows 10 and selecting Step 2, I had a window pop up, saying that it was trying to install the drivers. After a while, my iMac restarted. However, the driver was not actually installed. I ran the installer a second time, and this time got the warning window with a red banner saying that the driver was unsigned. I allowed installation to proceed, and finally, after a second restart, I'm in business. Sweet!

@lhagan: Could you contact me via email.. I'll provide the possible fix. By the way: in rare cases the firmware version of the specific Bluetooth dongle can drive the dongle incompatible, even if the chipset is made by Broadcom.

@Marciano: Yes, it works with Macs, no chance to not work :) (unless not following the instructions). Actually a modern Mac with Boot Camp is the official target, the computer the ExtraMagic is being developed for, and developed on, and tested daily with.
I'm very glad that all is working for you!

@V-l-a-d-i-m-i-r thank you!

Now, the one feature that would make this absolutely perfect (as in, every bit as good as on the Mac side) is inertial scrolling. Windows supports it with proper trackpads, but presumably Apple's drivers don't. I understand that you don't deal with two-finger gestures (yet?), but I would even be willing to give up the 3- or 4-finger swipe up/down gestures in exchange for inertial scrolling. It's so much more convenient when you are scrolling through a long document.

Anyway, what you did is still absolutely fantastic.

@Marciano: Thank you. Yes, currently it's mostly about the Magic Trackpad gestures for 3 and 4 fingers on Windows, something that Apple will probably never give to Windows users.
But I can tell that deep inside our secret ExtraMagic laboratory some initial experiments with the new scroll engine are taking place right now :)

@All: Today's build of the ExtraMagic brings improvements to both generations of the Magic Trackpad. The gestures should be even more responsive, and 3-finger drag noticeably smoother. Also there are many minor fixes under the hood. The new build is highly recommended to everyone. Yes, for Magic Trackpad 2 it's still officially speaking BETA version, but it's now much closer to the final release than one week before. I think there shouldn't be any noticeable issues now.

@V-l-a-d-i-m-i-r awesome, thanks!

BTW, I just noticed that AutoHotKey disables ExtraMagic. Is this a known issue? I'll survive, but it'd be nice to be able to use both.

I was able to get the Magic Trackpad 2 / ExtraMagic working on Windows 7, although neither is technically supported.

My problem above was that I wasn't actually running the Apple drivers. The drivers do actually work, but Windows 7 does not automatically register them after installation. I was able to get them working using the instructions here. After that, I reinstalled ExtraMagic and gestures started working.

Unfortunately, two-finger right clicking stopped working at the same time, so I can't say it's working 100% yet.

Also, is it possible to turn off the trackpad "click" sound like you can in OS X (Silent Clicking)?

@Marciano: I'll test. Recently I tried AutoHotkey, and nothing was affected. So by simply installing the recent AutoHotkey?

@Ihaqan: Click sound is not controllable yet by ExtraMagic. About right click, not sure what happened, but in fact it's still handled by Boot Camp driver, not by ExtraMagic. In the ExtraMagic settings, if you click the rhombus icon to display the quick shortcuts to Boot Camp driver controls, is the 'Secondary Tap' checked? And does corner-click work when also checked?

@CaseyLL: Currently the ExtraMagic only adds the long-anticipated gestures for 3 and 4 fingers. In the future, expansion to 2 finger space is possible, but this will require different interaction with Boot Camp driver. As of today, the ExtraMagic is not the full driver, the mouse emulation (and thus 1 and 2 fingers) are in possession of Boot Camp driver.

@V-l-a-d-i-m-i-r the version I'm running is the latest one, 1.1.22.09 (Nov 11, 2015). Basically, as soon as I launch autohotkey, ExtraMagic stops working completely. Then, as soon as I quit autohotkey, ExtraMagic works.

@Marciano: Thank you, I'll be able to investigate tomorrow. I cannot understand the connection... Just one month ago I had AutoHotkey installed without any side effects for ExtraMagic gestures.

@Marciano: Testing on a PC - just installed fresh Windows 10 build 10586, then paired Magic Trackpad with PC, then installed ExtraMagic 1.3 (Step 1 + Step 2), rebooted, the ExtraMagic gestures were working, then to test your scenario I installed AutoHotkey 1.1.22.09 and... the gestures still work. Launched some scripts, but gestures are still working. Also a few pages back some people had confirmed they use AutoHotkey. So unfortunately I cannot replicate the issue, all is working for me.

@All: A Microsoft-cross-signed 64-bit driver component of the ExtraMagic has become available for the new Magic Trackpad 2! Please contact me via email if interested.

Hi, I am interested in the best trackpad and your product. Would you please clarify: which trackpad and which BT dongles (in addition to trying my PC's native BT) do you recommend. I will buy what works best along with donating to your project.

Thanks!

@ccclapp: ExtraMagic is compatible only with Apple Magic Trackpad / Magic Trackpad 2 paired with Mac or PC running Windows 8 or 10. The Macs (Pro / Mini / iMac / Macbook) running Windows via Boot Camp are preferred over PCs, because the Bluetooth chipset compatibility is guaranteed for them. Yet many people reported success using the ExtraMagic solution with their PCs. What I recommend: first pair the trackpad with your PC, and if the pointer can be moved (important - also check if it works after reboot!), then run the Step 1 of the ExtraMagic installer. This will help you to install the Apple stock driver for Magic Trackpad 2. If the Step 1 is successful (pointer still can be moved), then you can proceed with ExtraMagic installer Step 2. This will install the Extramagic Settings app and the ExtraMagic driver component which makes it possible to register the gestures for 3 and 4 fingers. If after reboot the gestures work, then no need to buy other Bluetooth dongle. If the gestures do not work, or the trackpad does not work at all, then you can buy the compatible Bluetooth dongle. This one is known to work fine with Magic Trackpad 2 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
As I understood you also asked which trackpad is preferred. I think it's the new Magic Trackpad 2.

@V-l-a-d-i-m-i-r regarding Autohotkey, here's the deal. It *does* work, generally speaking. However, remapping the left ctrl/alt/win keys interferes with Extramagic. I think the reason is that Extramagic maps swipes to key combinations, and Autohotkey intercepts the key combos that Extramagic sends.

I'm now using SharpKeys to reassign the left ctrl/alt/win keys, and so far everything seems to work. So, all is well! This may be useful to other people---the standard mapping of Cmd-->Win, Option-->Alt, and Ctrl-Ctrl is not ideal for use in Windows.

Hi

I followed your instructions but have NOT succeed:

1) bought MT2
2) Bought BT dongle recommended.
3) Paired MT2 with PC native bluetooth (worked for 1-2 finger basics)
4) Installed ExtraMagic. Did step 1 to get Apple driver (worked for 1-finger basics). Did step 2, PC rebooted and shows error pairing w MT2 and extramagic give error not that not load and to reinstall. Repeated several times with same result.
5) Removed MT2 from BT devices. Inserted recommended BT dongle and repeated all steps above. Same result.

Any suggestions?

@ccclapp: Please try to find the 'Secure Boot' option in BIOS/EFI, and temporary disable it. Then reinstall the ExtraMagic. In the future, if you find the ExtraMagic useful, you can request the cross-signed driver component of ExtraMagic (contact me via email). Could you confirm that this setting helped? Thank you.

@idvorkin:
1) No, ExtraMagic just adds the gestures for 3 and 4 fingers (including the super-convenient 3-finger drag, not available with precision touchpads). Also ExtraMagic works as control panel capable to configure both its own gestures and the mouse features of the trackpad, but the mouse features for 1 and 2 fingers are handled with Apple-provided driver from the Boot Camp package, so the ExtraMagic first (optionally) helps to install it, and then can be used as universal magic Trackpad control panel, via 'ExtraMagic Settings' application.
2) Yes (but you'll need to disable Secure Boot setting, or alternatively request the Microsoft-cross-signed driver component of ExtraMagic, it's currently available to people who had really supported the development).

The software works fine for me so far, but unfortunately the "Windows 7 Testmode" watermark remains in the bottom right corner of my desktop. If I fix it by using the Microsoft instructions, the communication between software and trackpad would fail. Do you have any suggestions how to remove the watermark?

@darya77: It's as per Microsoft design for 64-bit drivers verification. There exist some free removers on the internet, for example http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/My-WCP-Watermark-Editor.shtml
But the best choice could be to request the Microsoft-cross-signed ExtraMagic driver component. And there will be no watermark, again, as per Microsoft decision for 64-bit drivers security. This is currently available to people who had supported the development (you can contact me via email for exact details, e.g. use the 'Contact' button on the ExtraMagic web page).
