Other Eye-strain while using iPhone X and up

I’ve gone with the opposite approach—even unpaired and repaired watches. I just want to use this new 14PM like it’s my phone. Just live life and see how I feel. Do I grab my phone and cringe? Do i notice I don’t want to grab my phone? Stuff like that.

Right now I have Reduce White Point set to 95% and brightness full on inside. I have an accessory shortcut to turn off that 95% when I go outside.

So far…seems not bad?

Like many have said: hard to know because I’m so sensitive to everything right now. Been so excited and off my sleeping since the announcement—like a kid who wonders if Santa will finally stop leaving coal in my stocking. So it’s hard to say.

So I wouldn’t advise anyone to rush out to get the phone, nor would I say run far away from it.

Trying to gauge the consensus so far. Sounds like we are all very hopeful, but PWM is still in use... possibly the same frequency and implementation as last year.

Anyone using it and can confidently say they are not having any issues?

Preliminary report. Considering all the time I've been on my computer today for work and dealing with my old phone and new phone and playing around with it, my eyes and head feel pretty decent.

That's never happened with any of the other OLED phones.

I will note though that I have a bit of mild nausea and burping. Of course that could be from something else, but that's not a usual symptom for me so I am hesitant.

I will say that it is many leaps above the iPhone X and even last year's offerings for me.

So while I'm not sure what that means for me, less sensitive people will probably find these phones fine.

Of course I'm going to give it a few more days of using the phone and will report back.

2/10 basically means it’s at least five times better than iPhone X. I gave iPhone 13 Mini a 4/10. iPhone 13 Pro was probably a 5/10. iPhone 12 Pro Max was realistically a 9/10. Lower is better.

10/10 on iPhone X means 24/7 constant migraines and headaches.

I’m getting more used to iPhone 14 Pro Max over time, but do still have concerns that my rating will go up to a 3-4 over the next week. The good news is that this is significantly better than any Pro Max iPhone Apple has ever shipped, as iPhone 13 Pro Max was apparently even worse than iPhone 12 Pro Max. I could be swayed to try iPhone 14 Pro if the rate is higher, as this iPhone 14 Pro Max is working surprisingly well.

I do think users less sensitive than me may have good luck with iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max that they haven’t had with previous generations.

I didn’t realize at first I had pro motion turned off. I went into Accessibility and Motion and turned it back on. That’s better for me. I’ll wait and see how it goes. I’m wishing good luck to everyone here.

Eyes are fine it’s the weird feelings in my head when ProMotion was off that worried me.

I’m still not sure this is okay for me to read on too much.

One thing: I stayed off all my other OLED phones for at least the last two weeks.

The warmer display is the first adjustment phase. I've got a warm reddish, tilting to green oled. Already missing cool blue lcd.

Same issue with the mini and the large camera. Always rubbing the camera.
 
Has anyone else experimented with brightness? It may be my imagination but it seems the pwd effect lessens with increased brightness. I’m 60 pct at the moment (evening).

You may get used to it. I did with 13 mini since it wasn’t so bad for me at first.

How did you turn on/off ProMotion? Was it off by default?

Yes. On my 11, I usually had brightness at maybe 25%, so I was not keen on going brighter on this 14PM, but I have. I’ve been keeping mostly between 90-100% (with Reduce White Point 90-95%), and it’s surprised me that it doesn’t feel crazy bright to me.

Don’t have a total opinion at this point, but that was a positive bit.
