Just before the news broke that a DC Dimming setting would be included, I was looking for alternatives.

Stumbled across the TCL NXTPAPER 60 Ultra.

It looks good screen is use, but the processor is really low end :/

Here’s hoping Apple gives us something good with the Pro. And hey.. while they are at it, but the setting on the IPP.

My IP11 2019 and 12.9 IPP 2018 need a break.

A new usable device from this decade would be awesome!
The Dimensity 7400 is better compared what for slow processors they put in other Android smarphones with LCD display. But yes it uses old ARM Cortex cores as performance cores. The Dimensity 8400 would have been better.

If the iPhone 17 Pro Max doesn't work for me, i think i will try the TCL Ultra. The display is interesting and it even has a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. Only the size is a problem. With a 7,2 inch display it's a really big phone 🫤

How long until these devices are in Apple stores for someone to get some readings and reaction on the PWM function?

This is the most incredible news ever. Getting mine day 1. I’ve been getting used to the 16 plus and it’s pain free when I use medicated eye drops however that is not a long term solution. Oled without pwm. We can only dream that this is the solution. Crossing fingers.
Didn't even know eye drops could help. What kind of eye drops do you get ? if you don't mind.

On another side, there is also that issue of TD. If PWM gets fixed, hopefully TD will too !

Is it a bad choice to go Air? Coming from my 11, before that the 7 Plus (which I miss every day). 7 Plus was a perfect size, resolution, weight, and battery (at the time). The Air should feel like a huge upgrade from the 11, even the battery. The size and thinness are a plus to me - single speaker is a strong negative though.

I was in for a 17 Pro, Deep Blue, but the weight and thickness are putting me off. And I don't like the blue....
The weight of the 11 annoys me at times, but at least it has rounded edges.

People are comparing the Air to the new Pro's, and so yes, the Air has less battery. But more than older iPhones, which have been fine.

If this PWM fix works, I'm going ProMax.

Been that long on the Iphone 11 I want the biggest upgrade possible 😂

I’m considering going Air, which is why I’m not as in a rush to pre-order. The screen size is Goldilocks and I’m curious whether the thinness of the device will give me an iPhone mini-level of attachment.

Do we know if the Air will have the option to disable PWM? I have only read confirmation on the Pro.

I’d have to assume that if iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro have the setting then iPhone Air would as well, although it may be smart to wait for confirmation before pre-ordering.

There are two outcomes for the Display Pulse Smoothing setting: either it will resolve this entire thread, with the exception of a few people that experience issues from dithering which I don’t, or it will contribute to further hopelessness that smartphone OLED won’t ever be flicker-free.

I think the reason I can do the Iphone 11 on IOS16 and not on IOS17 is maybe that I dont like the dithering too.

Although I am happy on all other IOS. Never tried an OLED out for dithering because its always had the PWM to consider too.

I guess temporal dithering is something they can also remove in software at some point, albeit in detriment to the colour performance of the screen?

I wonder if the Air will have the option to disable PWM.

This is a new screen / size, right? So I wouldn’t automatically assume it has this feature like the Pro

I'm so excited.
But I'm completely relaxed because the iPhone 16 Plus works for me.
I'll order the iPhone 17 Pro Max in two hours and report back next Friday.

Are the phones now in the shops to go and have a play with?

Does anyone know when the reviews will come out? I am really waiting for Nick to review the PWM and TD on all devices. And other reviews for the battery of the AIR

First time I've preordered an iPhone since this all started in 2017 - iPhone Pro 1 TB. Figured I've saved so much money on iPhones the last 8 years I might as well go for the big one.

I also have issues with Apple LCD phones/iPads on newer iOS versions (temporal dithering? Something else?) but I'm hoping this isn't an issue on OLEDs.
