Well, in a very shocking turn of events I'm about to be a guinea pig come Friday 👀

I was talking to my mom earlier about how I'm gonna start donating plasma again to try to make enough $ to buy a 17 and hopefully get some relief, and she told me to just order it on our family plan and she'll cover the payments. Definitely wasn't expecting that, but I guess she feels bad for me b/c she's seen the hell I've gone through with my migraines and losing my ability to hold a normal job. Long story short- I have an auDHD child who no one but me and trained professionals can handle so babysitters & daycare aren't options, I have some autism of my own, and not even retail will hire someone like me with only 4 hours of availability on school days with zero flexibility. It's incredibly embarrassing to be a charity case at my age, but it is what it is and I thank my lucky stars that I have a mom who'll help me out. I owe her SO MUCH yardwork now 😂

Lastly, in case anyone doesn't trust a MR article stating that it's on all 17s, here it is straight from the horse's mouth. Chatted in earlier and they confirmed.

Dimming…. Hmmm. That’s sure different than “Turn PWM Off”

Fingers crossed

I’m really just undecided on which iPhone 17 to pre-order, otherwise I would have done so already. It’s mostly down to iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 17 Air for me.
I want an Air sooooo bad. But the single speaker is seriously killing it for me. I’d be fine with battery life and camera. Just that darn speaker.

It’s the main reason I always go back to my XR over the SE3. It makes a huge difference.

I'd go with the pro for 100 dollars more, 2 more camera's, 8x zoom with the pro sounds awesome compared to 2x digital zoom, only one speaker, the Air has the titanium frame which was bad with overheating with the previous pro iPhones, now the pro phones are back to aluminum, significantly better battery life, The Air is very gimmicky to me, outside of the how light and thin it is which I think the nuance of that is gonna wear off pretty quickly, I think the Air will have plenty of returns because you get more for your money long term with the pro.

On paper all of this makes sense. However, the iPhones I’ve been most attached to that I’ve tested and couldn’t realistically use were iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 13 mini. I’m thinking that the size may have a positive impact on me that specs can’t really portray. My mind then goes to the iPhone 17 Pro 6.3”, but I’ve only ever found it difficult to give up the Max-sized iPhones. I already make do with the iPhone SE battery, so the Air shouldn’t be that much of a struggle. Then again the Max has gotten so huge that last time I had one it literally did not fit in some of my pockets. Despite trying an iPhone just about every year I feel like I’m coming back after a very extended break, and every model is a possibility.

Only 3 more sleeps and it is game on. I ordered the 17 PM 1TB in blue....wanted the 2TB but not for $400 more. Already shelling out $1700 after taxes cause there is no way I am trading in this 15 PM given the reality is it may be my unicorn. I am most excited about the upgraded zoom lens and now having a 48mp ultra wide lens too. I still encourage folks to order the phone you desire the most in hopes the screen will work, as opposed to rolling dice on what you believe for whatever reason will be the easiest on your eyes because if there is one thing this thread has proven, it is that hardly anyone reacts the same as others. Good luck everyone and report back!

The reviews from the mainstream YouTubers will come out today. I wonder if anyone will mention PWM and test it out. I’m still curious about the air. Maybe I’ll change my order

Zollotech.
He was one of the first to mention PWM. But he isn’t that sensitive. He can use the pro phones with 480hz with no problem. So he thinks Apple somehow fixed the issue. And I don’t think he will get an iPhone to review from Apple. He will probably buy the phones and review on Friday

I also think that Zollotech is not one of those who will get iPhone for a review. But because this new PWM switch got some attention on the internet, maybe some of those bigger YouTubers will provide some more information today. Our we could just wait. We have waited for 8 years :D

Yeah, I’m not hopeful that any of the pre-release reviewers will have anything worthwhile to say on the matter, as they’re unlikely to suffer the issues we do. Consequently whatever they say on the matter is likely to be irrelevant to us. As I’m unlikely to get to an Apple shop to try one myself, I eagerly await feedback from people who have suffered the effects of PWM and temporal dithering and how they respond to the new phones.

Ditto.

If I were to get one Friday I would ask a relative to set it up and switch the PWM setting on before they give it to me. Even setting up my daughters OLED iphone hurt my head.

Oh well as expected, still PWM so they shouldnt have really called the feature 'Disabling PWM' when it only reduces it.

I guess many will now be able to use it but still many that cannot.

It will be a matter of seeing how each of us get on as with every other iphone release, good luck guys.

So instead of F*cking bad to bad. The toggle is misleading.

Definitely disappointing if they’ve effectively lied to us, but I was firmly in the I’ll believe it when I see it camp and whilst hopeful, didn’t truly believe they’d deliver what we wanted.

This looks really good compared to before.
Test it yourself first before you start criticizing it.;)

Here from minute seven, Felix talks in german about it and tries to illustrate it visually:
It looks great!

It's not a real test. And i have tried many iPhones with PWM. I am very sensitive so i don't think this is good enough for me. For some people it might work

I speak half decent German, and his explanation of PWM issues was pretty good (again, HALF decent, not fluent!)

And yes, his side by side shows no flicker on the 17 when the setting is turned on. He can film the 17 without black lines, which he says is great for his particular use (he doesn't suffer from PWM headaches etc himself)

Good to see a chunky section of a review going into this feature.

The question remains - person by person, is this a fix, or simply a band-aid that improves/fixes the situation for some?

I'll be trying 17 and 17 Pro in person at the weekend at an Apple Store, and will be watching these threads with feedback from everyone

Good luck and fingers crossed for you all :)

Gonna order a pro and see how I get on.

What is the Apple policy for return, I know plenty have done it on here. Is it no questions asked? Reading the website it states you have to indicate your intent to return within 14 days which isn't very long.
