its like iphoto library--> 200(2 or 3 or 4 or 5), then i click on 1, and theres more subfolders (months i guess) but when i keep going they are like empty

That's the old way of organising them - the upgrade seems to leave the old directories

yeah i have those too....maybe the old ones messed it up because theres some still in there......they are only labeled by roll # though.....not album.....even though i do have ablum #.....i am rearchiving the thumbnails now or whatever like you suggested....i clicked every option (4 i tihnk?), so i really hope that owrks

so should i put that are in the old iphoto directories to another folder, on my desktop or something, then delete them from the "pictures" folder under my user, and then reimport them to iphoto?

iPhoto (for me at least, on two seperate machiens) has ALWAYS had a stupid way of organizing the photo library. IT's a giant pain in the ass if you ask me, however I haven't even looked at iPhoto since I installed 06 yesterday.

Ya, it's a pain for sure....I just back up my pics to a different folder (duplicates) so I know they are safe and I can find what I want when I want, and let iPhoto do whatever it does to organize..and just leave that mess alone.

It has improved in iPhoto 06. There's no more Year/Month/Day folders.

Just Year/Name of Roll folders - much, much easier! Still doesn't change the file name to the title of the picture but it's definitely improved!

but it left some 20 odd pictures under the old way of organizing .... so what do i do?

My dock hard quit after installing iLife '06, meaning it quit and didn't automatically restart. I bought iLife in a retail box from my school bookstore. However, I unchecked Garageband as I don't have 3+ GBs of space to install an app I never use. It may be a bug that causes the dock to crash unless you install all the apps. Anyway, luckily I use Quicksilver, so I was able to open Script Editor and run "tell app "Dock" to activate" in order to get my dock back. iPhoto is working great, and is incredibly fast compared to '05 on my PowerBook.

ok well i rearchived iphoto and what not....still, i cannot seem to delete a photo from it.......i empty the trash, and the photos just show right up....now i need to check out these thumbnail issues

oh my god i cant freaking stand this!!!!
now i cant delete any photos, and my thumbnails are still messed up.....when i open iphoto it says something about restting the thumbnail cache.....how do i do this?......i backed up my HD last night, so how would i go about restoring it so i could do a complete reinstall?

i am so pissed off right now.....ilife messed up my freaking iphoto library, deleting some pictures, messing up the thumbnails for others.....why the hell are the thumbnails and the actual picture 2 different files? thats so dumb.....i need to punch a wall......i love macs, and will never go to windows, but ive had my powerbook for a little under 2 years, and my hard drive has failed, as has my superdrive.....and 3 power adapters have failed me, each time apple refused to replace it and i had to pay 80 dollars every time.....and now this....come on, this isnt acceptable

i just deleted all my photos from iphoto (all 10,000 of them), and the "originals" and "modified" folders.....then im going to try to reimport them with backup......should i delete all those other files in my "pictures folder"

iphotolock.data
libray.data
library.iphoto
library6.iphoto
thumbs32segment.data
thumbs64segment.data
thumbsjpgsegment.data

My dock disappeared when I installed iLife last night as well. I didn't install iTunes, since I already have the most current version installed. Strange. It took a reboot to get my dock back. No problems with any of the apps as far as I can tell.

can someone please IM me and maybe help me out with a troubleshoot or something or walk me through some things that might fix it? im really freaking out over here

i tried restoring my iphotos using backups restore function....and its said "Copying Files" for about 10minutes.....and the blue bar hasn't even appeared.....the program hasnt frozen, and i tried quitting it and relaunching it, and it did the same thing

That's because the actual RETAIL VERSION shouldn't. The copied or modified single iApp files do infact do this to the dock. BETCHA DIDN'T KNOW THAT!!!! :p

Just thought I'd add my voice that this is incorrect. I also purchased the edu version of iLife and installing it made my Dock quit and not restart. I was able to restart it by opening Dock.app in System/Library/CoreServices.

crackpip

Before you mess around with your iPhoto libraries anymore, I suggest you burn all the folders in your home/pictures folder to disk. Sounds like you're headed towards really losing them.

For the record, I only installed iPhoto and iWeb. I too don't have the hard drive space to spend on Garageband, and I really don't much use iDVD or iMovie these days. No probs with the Dock crashing or any other badness on my Powerbook as of yet.

i have them all backed up by using backup, which ran last night at 3am.....so the pictures should be there on backup, but when i try to restore them, the restore "copy files" bar wont move, with no hint of blue

I would make a second backup of your current pictures folder to CD or DVD. If Backup fails you, you could lose your stuff.

i have it backed up, in 2 different places.......now when i go to add the backup it says its invalid, yet i can open the pictures in preview fine.......

You should have 'Originals' and 'Modified' folders in your iPhoto directory now, which should contain your pictures in year and roll/album folders. The old way was really weird and hard to find your pictures.

i deleted these 2 folders and all my pictures......then restored the photos using backups restore.....but now when i go to file import photos, i get an error message and those 2 folders arent in the finder menu, and they are still arranged like the older version of iphoto (2004, 2005 etc w/ months and such)

how do i get the new folder naming system back? i cant import the photos now yet they open up in preview fine.

I haven't been too happy with iLife 06 either

In GarageBand when I want to change the tempo, it zooms in

iPhoto is no faster then it was before

iMovie just has TOO many news things and when you delete a clip, first it gets rid of the effects and THEN the clip goes away. And recording is all messed up

iDVD keeps on crashing when I try to open new themes

iWeb is the only working program

Maybe this has to do with the fact that I have about 7 gig left on my HD out of 80? Please help, my entire computer is slowing down!

i deleted the iphoto library, then restored the pictuers using backups restore fnctn......the pictures are in my pictures folder and open up in preview fine, but when i go to import them in to iphoto, i get an error message

Unreadable Files: (/Users/xxxxxxx/Pictures/iPhoto Library/2006/01/03)......and the originals and modified folders are gone......
