honest answer:
Productivity:
- you can make the iPad be compatible with external usb drives
- you can buy iFile, which gives iOS a real filesystem
- you can have trackpad support
- you can build code on the devices (forbidden by app store rules)
- you can costumize control center
- you can install whatsapp (or any other iPhone only app) on an iPad

If you are into games:
- you can use a ps4 controller, which is much better than the MFI ones. You can use any bluetooth controller you already have. So that's 50$ less to spend and a better experience.
- you can install emulators

This are just a few examples.

Personally I don't feel the need to jailbreak my iPhone (now that f.lux is here) but I do feel the need to jailbreak my iPad. Out of the box is FAR too limited. Even more with the iPad Pro.

Thanks for the response, but in all honestly if those are the reasons for jailbreaking, no wonder jailbreak has lost a lot of people, most of the things that people loved about jailbreaking are now part of iOS.

Thanks.

I have one concern using f.lux after enabling it on Windows machine, which is performance.

As I realise, this app needs to constantly adjust display temperature to a warmer state. This drags down performance of this machine in another way, especially mouse moving speed. This is more obvious when I play games.

For Mac, the result is much better. But I still don't know if it will impact iPhone performance, especially gaming performance.

Finally!

As of right now, no-one should have a reason to jailbreak anymore.

This was the only reason I jailbroke my iPad on 9.0.2. If this becomes the standard method of installing f.lux (or god forbid, Apple allows it on the App Store), I will never jailbreak my devices again.

Amazing the things people believe.
My wife suffers from migraines after a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and has always suffered from insomnia. This isn't for me, I have no issues with either, but this could help with both, especially with harsh white giving her worse headaches.

It doesn't matter what you believe, if it's a placebo or whatever. If it works, it works. This could help, may not. We've never jail broken, like the trusted security (maybe not perfect, but better) of a non-jail broken device. I've been a Dev, so I'll give this a shot.

The TestFlight aspect is interesting. I would think it's possible, but wonder if there are restrictions from the developers if this is truly patent pending.

Well, presumably you should be able to build Cydia for your personal device now. Why do we need jailbreaking again?
If you mean Cydia proper, it does a ton of stuff writing to the file system and installing things in restricted areas of iOS- that's not going to work.
If you mean an "app store" for non App store approved apps, someone could probably make a very pretty scripted package downloader/installer for OS X that uses Xcode to compile, sign, and install apps you pick from a catalog.

Get started on that! :)

Again, those are features of apps on cydia. Cydia is the primary feature of jailbreaking. Why do you need to jailbreak to get cydia, if you can just side-load it? Cydia's build tools will need some changes to allow it, but there's no technical reason it can't work now.
you know not of what you speak.

That can be done without jailbreaking. For example, I have Instagram on my never-been-jailbroken iPad.
Instagram is not iPad optimized. It is not "iPhone only". It is different.
Try to install whatsapp.

You can sideload GBA4iOS and Provenance in the same way as this new version of F.lux, also without jailbreaking.
But there are emulators that can't be sideloaded right now. Like ppsspp

This article fails to mention one needs a developer account to do this.

Edit: apparently this isn't true. Please disregard.

Honest question, what are those reasons?

Because right now I don't see the need to jailbreak anymore.
KeyVibe (feel the phone vibrate when typing), Phantom for Snapchat, Kodi (could be side loaded), ColorFlow2, ColorBanners, Activator, TypeStatus 2, Flex 2, Round Dock, Speed Intensifier, Color Badges, iCleaner, iFile. These are just a few reasons I jailbreak. Plus tons of different themes you could use.

Is it constantly waking your phone up and asking you for Touch ID or password? Seems like it happens every time it (wants to) step down the screen temp. Just me? Anyone else?

I've been trying to do this, but it keeps saying "cannot find developer disk image"

what am i doing wrong?

I assume you are on a beta or developer version of iOS, in this case Xcode don't have the image of the iPhone.
In this case I have read this message in Xcode.

So just to be clear, this will not work if you are on a beta iOS?

EDIT-Nvm, from the F.lux team "You need Xcode 7.2 to build for iOS 9.2."; cool.

From the F.lux team "You need Xcode 7.2 to build for iOS 9.2.", this is the beta version of Xcode I believe. Currently downloading myself.

Can you link me to the download for the beta version of Xcode?

edit: I found it!

i would easily pay $5+ for this app, the main reason why i always look forward for jailbreak is for this. It really helps me during nighttime
