Hmm, the source website says one is needed: https://justgetflux.com/sideload/ I figured this was the reason I can't get past the "No provisioning files found" error message.
Nope, you have to add an account in the xcode preferences (your apple id) and then click on the fix button, after having selected the added account from the drop down list. This way a provisioning file will be generated. :) tested with my girlfriend apple id, she is not a developer. She bought her iPad last week :)

Yeah, my ID shows up fine, it's just not working for me. I'm a noob, so forgive my ignorance.

OK, downloaded the Xcode project and... it's a binary wrapped in enough barebones code to get it to compile.

Honestly, I'm a little creeped out. I get that the app is patent-pending and they've got some trade secrets to keep secret and all that, but the whole reason I trust Xcode side loading versus jailbreaking is so I can make a cursory audit of the app and make sure it's not phoning home or doing anything creepy. This is especially true for an app that can only exist using private APIs. Call me paranoid, but one of the reasons I use my phone as much as I do is because I have that reasonable expectation of privacy/safety from key loggers and the like.

All that to say, how safe is installing this? Anyone have any experience?

I'm going to have to agree with you here.

I was hoping that the move to Xcode 7 allowing anyone to build and install apps on their device would result in a small but unique open source community for iOS devices. Applications that would not be allowed in the app store because of their license (GPL) or because they do things in a non-Apple approved way could flourish here, and provide burgeoning developers with code to look at and learn from.

Instead, we see the first app released in this manner using a binary blob, totally against the spirit of open source and hacking on your own stuff. I really don't want this to become the norm for outside-the-app-store apps.

And patents are no excuse. Releasing source doesn't get around them.

Is it constantly waking your phone up and asking you for Touch ID or password? Seems like it happens every time it (wants to) step down the screen temp. Just me? Anyone else?
This was happening to me also. Dev responded to it here:

I'm not really a fan of the bedtime mode so I have the 'time you wake up' set to 'dawn' and it will use the regular sunrise/sunset times.

Does this app have to stay open in order for it to keep running? Stupid questions probably but I'm curious if mine is just being weird.. The lighting change will stay applied if I close the app out in multitasking (after opening another app) but it'll switch off if I close the app while still in it (not sure if that made any sense lol..)

This is not the first app. There are many. You can venue go get more in GitHub or other places.

Uses weather notifications or something similar according to the author. This app is more in line w the Mac version than the cydia version.

If you mean Cydia proper, it does a ton of stuff writing to the file system and installing things in restricted areas of iOS- that's not going to work.
If you mean an "app store" for non App store approved apps, someone could probably make a very pretty scripted package downloader/installer for OS X that uses Xcode to compile, sign, and install apps you pick from a catalog.

Get started on that! :)
My god... You just struck gold! Now I know what I'll do with my life. XD Thing is though, Cydia SHOULD be possible to install with Xcode now. It relies in private APIs do to the things you mentioned, which Apple wouldn't allow on the App store, but I don't see any reason Xcode wouldn't allow it.

Yes, it uses notifications to trigger an update of the screen temp. It suppresses the notifications on the iPhone but their content shows up on my watch. They essentially give you the current screen temp and how long until sunrise.

+1
I'd really like to see this implemented natively in iOS (and OS X). I can't resist using my iPad in evenings (usually at least a couple of hours reading and catching up on tv shows), but I have developed problems falling asleep afterwards, even when tired. :(
Then this is for you =)

Can someone please make an iPA of it? I don't have a Mac :(
As far as I know you can only develop apps for iOS using Macs (at the very least you would need a Mac to wrap/translate code written in another language, the latter of which can be done on non-Macs). And that means you need a Mac to install betas on iOS devices (which this solution here is).

My wife suffers from migraines after a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and has always suffered from insomnia. This isn't for me, I have no issues with either, but this could help with both, especially with harsh white giving her worse headaches.

It doesn't matter what you believe, if it's a placebo or whatever. If it works, it works.

Definitely not a placebo -- there's a lot of research out there about light exposure affecting circadian rhythms, melatonin production and sleep.

I got an iPA already & it worked fine sir :).

so next week do we get the story on how this contained a virus???

Since you're looking at the source code for the app in question, why don't you read it line by line to see if it contains a "virus".

This is honestly a rather naive statement.

BL.

The source code is apparently a wrapper for a binary. So there's no way to verify if the content is malicious.
