Another example of Marketing running Apple like the "good ol" days before Apple plummeted.
I also don't seem to get why everyone is freaking out so much about one (1) notification from the Wallet app.
My wife and I saw it last night in 4DX - its a good movie - nothing great, but a fun way to pass 2 and a half hours - the 4DX added to the fun - didn't realise quite how much we'd be thrown about in the action scenes 😂. I gave it a solid 7/10 she gave 8.5/10. Despite what some people are saying about demographics, the majority of the cinema we were in were in their 20s or younger...Curious if its any good, anyone seen it yet?
Ted Lasso really ended in Season 2 (wink wink.... you know why, can't write it here or I get banned)Good news! If this hyperventilated bit of vroom-vroom car porn isn't your speed, the Apple Marketing Menace™ can't wait to tell you about Ted Lasso, Season 4: The World's Most Magical And Amazing television show ever created.
Gruber has been like this for years. I stopped paying attention to him. I'm not sure why he's so lauded. The ad was bad and dumb, but Gruber’s two posts about this, and two posts about the finder icon, just can’t be taken seriously by me anymore.
it all has a very 2010 Gizmodo feel to it, sour grapes that apple didn’t accept his invitation.
and I didn’t like the ad either, I don’t understand why the toggle to not get these promotions is exclusive to iOS 26, that’s all bad and understandable why people are upset. Apple absolutely should not be sending ads like this in the wallet app, completely agree on that point.
but writing two blog posts about this?
“Sending this ad is completely destructive to all the hard work other teams at Apple have done to make Apple Wallet actually private. I try very seldom to call for anyone to be fired, but I think whoever authorized this movie ad through Wallet push notifications ought to be canned.”
oh, please, Gruber just four months ago you would have been defending this to the high heavens.
“Especially in the field of computers, no company can be a slave to tradition and history. But you ought to respect it. This new Finder icon doesn’t.”
again, Gruber, if this would have been announced last year, you would be drooling all over yourself to say “ Apple changing the Finder icon is just proof that we’re moving into the next generation of computing” or some Apple approved PR spin like that.
it’s just completely transparent how, Apple didn’t take his criticism the way he wanted, they were admittedly a bit petty, so he’s going to… Do the same thing?
it just feels disingenuous, it doesn’t feel real. I highly doubt that grouper himself actually cares that much about the finder icon, or this ad.
It's always fun to cherry-pick reviews and give a one-sided "opinion". Did you even watch the movie? Tell us how you really feel. Overall, it looks to be reviewing just fine.
Don't they do promos though? I recall getting like Walgreens promos or others like "get 10% when you use Apple Pay". This isn't new, and it's not a big deal.Because it's my Wallet app!
Apple -- GTFO with ADs for your movie in my Wallet!
And you know they know better, because there is a setting that allows you to opt out in iOS 26.
We also booked for 4DX for this sat, just to see what it would be like. It really made a difference you feel?My wife and I saw it last night in 4DX - its a good movie - nothing great, but a fun way to pass 2 and a half hours - the 4DX added to the fun - didn't realise quite how much we'd be thrown about in the action scenes 😂. Apparently “have push ads” is on by default. Hope that changes before release.Bingo ^
I'm surprised they didn't find a way to get that opt-out setting into an iOS 18 update earlier this year.
Me? No, I saw it and enjoyed it. So I have my own opinion that I can share and not look for validations of others.I wasn't cherry picking.
I was sharing reviews that echo my own feelings.
Every movie has reviews all over the map.
Some of my favorite movies have AWFUL scores on Tomato -- that wasn't my point.
Did you really think all the reviews were negative because of my post?
Haha, I can see that happening. Its like being on a rocking boat at least for the last hour of the film!4DX .. ahh .. I remember seeing a rescreening of Titanic in 4DX.
Never again.
So much rocking around and air blasting and mist ... ugh.
Just totally not for me.
It super distracted from enjoying the movie (for me).
It’s like aMy physical wallet doesn’t feed me ads. Why the hell are they now appearing inside my digital one?

Yeah, cause we all believe what the 'critics' say... Terrible example.
It’s basically the F1 version of Top Gun Maverick.Curious if its any good, anyone seen it yet?
Totally agree, he was saying that apple not accepting his invitation was a 'Win' for him, but it wasn't and I think he knows that. While he may feel free to either express his real feelings or to now go at Apple, he's lost all credible no matter what. The ad was bad and dumb, but Gruber’s two posts about this, and two posts about the finder icon, just can’t be taken seriously by me anymore.
