Let's get 2.7B people in on a class-action lawsuit
Oh the irony.Zuckerburg won’t see a penny from me.
Facebook charges businesses if they want to put ads on the Facebook network, and the price goes to premium for a more "targeted" placement. The users are the product. So Facebook literally is tryi g to double dip, asking mo ey from advertisers and users. The thing is is if Facebook and Instagram charged money they’d still track you everywhere and keep a profile.
Until Facebook there has never been a database on humanity that knows so much about so many - without tracking across apps/platforms.
Facebook knows who my friends are, relatives, interests, likes, dislikes, relationship status and sexual inclination, what video I'll watch and what I won't. It has a market place so it also knows what I search for, buy and have an interest in there too. On top of that it can snoop in messages I send on it's IM platforms (yes, plural - whatsapp)
Google would give anything to get that info, as would Amazon.
You're suggesting that they can't make billion $ profits with all that because we refuse to let them follow us around like a stalker across the entire digital world?
Basically I believe the only way to avoid it would be to literally not use the internet, for anything, and not even send text messages. Only then are you basically safe.
Netflix spent years perfecting one of the best algorithms to capture user patterns and preferences, and then the data, rather we are sold to producers to inform their cinematic decision making. It doesn't stop there: We pay Netflix to sell our data to other providers (think clothiers, design firms, intelligence aggregators, manufacturers, the list goes on). There is very little daylight between them and FB.You know, the thing is, I kinda like the idea of being a paying customer rather than part of the product. I've been happily paying for Netflix every month in exchange for what I feel is a quality product where I don't feel like I'm what's being sold.
Problem is, even politicians know that Facebook is a great medium to manipulate the public consciousness, so I’m sure Facebook will be one of those “too big to fail.” There will be enough actors wanting to keep Facebook to spread their stuff to let anything happen.FB is a social illness of pandemic proportions. It needs to go. Charge for all I care.
THAT is what has been holding back McDonalds service this whole time??The McDonalds app did something similar with a splash page asking to keep tracking so we can serve you better..
No, you aren't. I've done some searches for my name (the spelling of my first name is less common) and don't pop up. I have had iPhones since the 3G, though.Am I the only member here who never use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Flickr, Pinterest, Tiktok, WhatsApp and any other social media sites. You won’t find picture of me anywhere on the internet. They don’t exist. Heck, I don‘t even own a smartphone.
I was just listening to the latest episode of the Vergecast earlier today and they were discussing how this actually amounts to a minuscule fraction of Facebook’s revenue.Time to get real Facebook and Instagram. I'm not enabling ATT Tracking. You will still make tons of money even if we all keep ATT tracking turned off. Charge for Facebook and Instagram? Most of us will move on and go elsewhere.
