I've been thinking of deleting my Facebook profile. All people use FB for is to brag about what they just bought or where they're going. Basically, who has the bigger wallet.
It's too bad that every site other than Facebook is mostly used for people to brag about how they left Facebook :)

I'm not having the problem at all.

Just checked. Facebook is only responsible for 5% drain. Also, I evidently only used it for 10 minutes over the last 24 hours. Weird. I guess I probably do most of my Facebook on computers rather than mobile, though.

That explains it! I was late for work today because of this! I went to bed with 39% battery left, which is usually way more than enough to last into the next day, but my phone died during the night. Hence, no alarm clock. Hence having a crazy morning being late to work. I see this post, I check my battery stats, and Facebook background activity has used 70% of my battery over the past 24 hours!

Over the past 24 hours.
Facebook: 35 min on screen - 22 min background - 38%

WTF

I am perplexed by the users angry at facebook for circumventing the no background refresh rule, when in fact it is apple who is at fault for the obviously broken implementation. That includes allowing apps to play silent files in the backround to stay active or be classified as voip when they are not.

I just turn off notifications and background app refresh. That really limits how often you use facebook to just when you happen to feel like looking.

Also, I looked at my battery and Facebook in last 7 days had barely 6% due to background activity. So turning off all that crap (and auto loading of videos) seems to prevent battery hogging.

I've also have notifications turned off for Facebook. I also have chat turned off and don't use it at all. Past seven days Facebook is only 5% of the battery usage and no background usage.

Snapchat is the battery killer for me...! Although Facebook is normally second... Guess I haven't used it much this week!
Edit: 48 minutes on Tinder.... Awkward!

57% of my usage over the last 7 days. I have location services, notifications, and background refresh totally off and 33 hours of background activity via Facebook. If it didn't suck so much worse in Safari, I'd have deleted this BS long ago.

isn't it both? Facebook should be shamed for trying their luck. Apple should be shamed for allowing it to happen, letting it in the store.

I kind of think Apple turned a blind eye because Facebook is so popular.

but still disappointed Facebook use dirty tricks in the first place

I have stopped using the Facebook app after they splitted messaging function to a new app and force people to download and use two apps, and I haven't looked back. If I need to, I just check the web version.

Yes.

Friendly app is ad free, and not a drain. Costs 99 cents maybe.

Now ad-blockers make Fb on Safari a good option as well.

But yes, ditch the Fb app. Their inherent interest is in background information and their push of constant updates to get you back, these cannot be fixed. Only safari or Friendly can put Fb at arms length, reducing their monstrous level of operations in the background.

+1 That's why I stopped using Facebook during its early days. I see Facebook as a site where people usually compare their lives with someone else's. It encourages a life of materialism and that mentality is something which I really dislike. If you're really just on Facebook to compare, compete and show off what you've bought, ate or where you've been on holiday, you need to sort yourself out. Are you really happy with your life?

The only value of Facebook that I see is that it allows you to find and keep in contact with people who you've not had contact with in a long time like old friends, colleagues etc. That's where its true value lies.

Only use FB as a contact list. I don't have the app installed nor the crappy Messenger. Looks more like spyware.

Today people only post clickbait "news" and nothing original. Not even counting glamour pics. Everybody is enjoying life.
