Gimped compared to Android. Surprise, Surprise..

How is it gimped? If anything, this is a better version than what is offered on Android. Facebook Home is a heap of garbage. If I really want to see my news feed, I'll go ahead and open the app. I don't care to see random memes and "SHARE THIS IF U LUV JESUS!!!" on my homescreen. Nor do I want to have floating pictures of my friends in order to message them. If they message me currently, it shows up as a clean notification in which I can tap and begin replying to, or ignore it. What's so wrong with that?

No one said anything about Facebook Home. The chat heads feature on Android doesn't require Facebook home. It is a part of Facebook Messenger (and probably the Facebook app eventually). And the feature works outside of the app. Honestly, adding it inside of the iOS app seems pretty dumb to me. I can't imagine needed such a feature if it requires you to already be inside the app.

Regarding iPad update, I was hoping for ability to hide messenger pane altogether. It looks even wider now.

Yeah, FB really wants to make the messenger component a visible feature, because they want you to use that over iMessage, SMS, WhatsApp, etc. That gives them control over another major communication channel, so they've got messaging, threaded type chat, photos, gaming, photos, e-commerce (hell, even phone calls!) right through the FB platform ... it really is it's own self-contained environment "outside" of the internet.

Sandboxing is what keeps iOS secure, yet the bloggers turn this into a negative for iOS. Pathetic.
They are the same type of people that were duped into installing Banzai buddy and other crapware on their windows systems in the past.

If this worked system wide, I could see myself to going back to using Facebook chat a lot. But since it's only in Facebook, I don't see myself using it much.

Am I the only one that hears the term "Chat Heads" and my brain thinks "**** Heads"? Maybe I'm weird. . .

For all the threads on this site in regards to FB, I don't understand the backlash. If you don't like FB, for whatever reason, just don't download the app or use the service.

Anyone who needs to log in to post how they can't wait to disable their account/delete the app etc... I assume the only people that are actually excited about that prospect are the people who have you in their newsfeed.

Am I the only one that sees FB reinventing the wheel? Why do I need chat in FB? I've got SMS & iMessage. All "free" anyways. I've noticed that I get SMS/iMessage replies way more quickly then messages I send to ppl on FB. They're reinventing the wheel and trying to force it upon ppl to show why you need it "because everyone is on it"... self fulfilling prophecy. No thanks. I just keep checking FB less and less :)

I don't follow. Facebook has had chat long before iMessage appeared. You may not use FB Chat but it is pretty huge. I would imagine it is way bigger than iMessage in terms of messages sent due to the number of platforms it is on. In know way are they "reinventing the wheel" with messaging. I give them credit for at least innovating with messaging with their location services and the new chatheads feature.

Maybe this update might secretly fix that whole "I only get 1 out of 5 notifications with no notification sound, and i have to have the messages app installed to get message notifications" Bug(s).
Either way Instagram for dayysss

Stopped using Facebook a while ago, grew tired of reading posts from friends instead of actually spending quality time with them. It's amazing, when you pull away from 24/7 anti-social social networking to realize there is a world out there most are forgetting about.

Opened my eyes, much happier without it and do not want Apple and other companies pushing for more social networking integration in my OS. Get back to updating OpenGL Core support, a revamped Finder (shame ZFS isn't an option, with increasing storage space and servers becoming commonplace in households, it would have been great for large volumes), stability, addressing WiFi issues for many, and pro-App's. Here's hoping this year becomes the year of the pro for Apple, enough Facebook in my Apple apps.

im actually impressed. the apps look pretty clean and stylish

like the bigger icons in the newsfeed on the iPad and the lists on top of the newsfeed on the iPhone

I guess they've given up on bug fixes? Much rather have notifications corrected and my news feed show updated likes/comments when updating instead of "chat heads." Give me a break.
