We are definitely in the midst of Internet Bubble 2.0.
None of these companies are worth nearly what they are being bought for.
So true.
We are definitely in the midst of Internet Bubble 2.0.
None of these companies are worth nearly what they are being bought for.
The 3 billion difference is the Facebook stock to vest in 4 years for the WhatsApp team.
I know. This is in the article. What I am wondering is why it is being discussed as a $16B deal, when the real price is $19B.
I guess because 16B is what they are paying to the WhatsApp owners, while 3B is the current value of what they may give to the team members if they stay according to their revised work contracts.
It's called MMS and has bee around for a long time. What a dumb comment...How do I send a photo in a chat to an Android user for free? Don't say SMS cause it doesn't send photos.
Sounds like it's not for you for what we reasons. But it's just fine for many others, "common" or "uncommon".I understand why Facebook has bought this app, it's another huge platform with users so this opens opportunities for Facebook to integrate this with Facebook and selling adds to even a wider or rather bigger audience.
I stopped using Facebook beginning this year. I noticed that most of my friends didn't had anything interesting to say and that includes myself. Not that my friends are dumb or actually don't have anything to say but I noticed that having conversations in real life has so much more value and content when typing simplistic conversations about everything and nothing combined on Facebook, or Google+
The problem with these platforms, for me (!), including Twitter, is that 90% of it's users actually think they understand what they are writing about while in reality almost all of them don't have any clue where they are talking about. This is because people have an opinion about literally everything despite a lack of background knowledge about the subject and most of these people have the urge feeling that they should "share" this.. How often do you see the phrase on Facebook: "I lack knowledge to make a valuable statement here about this subject"? It's a rhetorical question.
I choose to skip Facebook and Google+, these platforms doesn't add anything valuable to my life, especially Twitter. I'm simply not interested in what common people think about 'everything' and not in a bit interested what their opinion is about this celebrity or that event. I rather hear opinions from people on specific subjects from people who actually have been studying the subject itself for years. But those people are not on Facebook or Google plus and most of the time not on Twitter as well. It's more ment for common people. And despite I consider myself to be common, these platforms simply doesn't appeal to me a bit.
Yeah, why are we still using iPhones or any cell phones? Telephones are like from 2 centuries ago. It's so not even close to being a big thing anymore. Same goes for TV. Seriously. One can say the same thing about Facebook... seriously, it's not 2010 anymore. We should be focusing on the -next- big thing, not the last big thing.
They convert each user into $100 worth of Soylent Green, so after processing costs, packaging, etc., I understand its about $50 net per person ...
So that's there now or is known to be coming? So much baseless and pointless paranoia around. Wow.Well what's app was good while it lasted. Now that is it is owned by facecrap there will tons of ads and annoying messages popping up like "would you like to add you friends " or connect your Facebook account now."
I seriously hate facecrap.
Its the internet, the only thing you can be sure of is that you can't be sure of anything. There's no such thing as a truly free lunch as they say.I don´t trust this people earning money with our information. Have you seen HushHushApp for example? That is the kind of App everyone of us should use, of course nobody have it, but you can be shure that anybody is watching!
Yeah I agree actually.
You know, I think Apple have a really good chance to kill Facebooks plans by do something with iMessage and Facetime protocol. Otherwise I think it will fade away in a few year.
I hope, in response to this, apple releases multi-OS integration for imessage. It will easily dominate all other IM systems once it's accessible to all.
Completely off topic, but it is funny you mention this. I just watched this movie last night! hahaha
Hahaha, yeah, that is a pretty _strange_ coincidence.![]()
This is false. iMessage does not compress photos unlike BBM or Whatsapp. To make matter worse iPhone camera app doesn't have the option to take smaller resolution picture.
That and spotty Apple server result in slow upload when you send your pics using iMessage. Doesn't matter if you have speedy network, it will still be slow.
You send a picture taking a bath with your dog weigh 3MB. Yeah, priceless
Some even got it for free at different points in time.LOL, i bought Whatsapp for $0.69
U mad Facebook?![]()
Are you sure about that? I do believe iMessage does compress photos, even though using Wifi with great speed. That's why I use Airdrop which doesn't compress photos when I want people to send me their pics.
It's called MMS and has bee around for a long time.
Part of the post I was replying to also said something along the lines of "don't say use SMS since that doesn't support images", and the MMS reply was to address that part essentially. The question you replied with the above to was: How do I send a photo in a chat to an Android user for free?
MMS is not free on most plans.
To all the US people saying they never use it:
Yes I know you don't. But where I live, and in many other countries, it's the standard. First thing you install on your phone is Whatsapp. Nobody uses text, Whatsapp is the standard.
I think it varies extremely between countries. I'm Dutch and literally everyone I know that lives in the Netherlands has Whatsapp installed and about 80% actively use it to communicate.
May be you need to unfriend people if people are posting garbage in your feed. You can also move people to other groups that can sort of be ignored and not show up in your main feed.
It's really easy to unfriend someone and they won't even know but then it deducts from your friend total, which then you will not obtain the #1 friend total spot.
Ha ridiculous.
Whatsapp is the most popular messaging app though, but, like most things that are "most popular" its not the best or prettiest. Messageme is a lot nicer but barely used, even Kik is a bit better. Whatsapp are always about 4 months before everyone else with big iOS or iPhone changes too.
Not everyone uses iPhone.
