Take care to actually delete it, not just inactivate it - they push you for the inactivation as that allows them to keep your personal data forever.

I also downloaded the data they had on me and reviewed that a bit - if there was one thing that stood out: they had a list of companies that I used as suppliers - never gave Facebook any of that info - never gave those suppliers any permission to share anything with anybody (I'm in the EU, so GDPR applies). If I ever get bored, I might file a complaint against the lot of them for breaking GDPR rules.
I did the same , they had my 95 y/o MIL name , address etc . She doesn't even know what the Internet is ..

It's missing something…

Fixed that for you 😂

Well, I never had a facebook account and don’t intent to have one, but they became big for some reason, demand seems to exist.
People still use it, else they wouldn’t exist anymore.

Well, we’ll see…
I really don’t give fb any time in my head. Haven’t used it in 3 years

Just to add a few more. There are dozens more.

I think people are missing the point here. Facebook (the corporation, not the service) deals in many more businesses than just social media. Facebook (the service) is not changing it's name. This is akin to Google (the corporation) spinning up a parent company and calling it Alphabet. Facebook is now just one of the services that is owned by Meta just like Google is a service owned by Alphabet.
Do t use one of those. In fact haven’t heard of most of them

Odds are many people think they deleted their account but in fact only deactivated it - Facebook keeps your data forever if you do that.

Facebook also collects data from those not having an account at all.

And then there are probably many milllions of accounts created by the spammers.
I suspect when you delete your account, they just delete the posts, not any of the data they've mined from it. But deleting your account does clear out those posts and removes you from their count of accounts on the system, which reduces the number they can pitch to advertisers. And of course it prevents you from popping on occasionally and potentially getting sucked back into the evil empire.

"Meta?" Yeah, I guess if I had **** all over myself on the world stage, I'd do whatever I could to distract everyone and try and distance myself from it...

Deleted mine last month after many years. I miss it 0%.
We're coming up on 2 years since I deleted mine and not only do I not miss it, my life is significantly improved by not being on there anymore.

Can’t wait for the email from Apple letting them know they don’t have a paid developer account and remove all their apps.
Apples not ready to trash iPhone sales. This will never happen. They both need each over. This is the conundrum.

Let's hope this is the beginning of the decline of Facebook as we know it.
I’m feeling it will be quite the opposite sadly. Rebranding is a smart move. They can get into owning search engines, make electric cars, whatever, and people don’t have the impression that ‘Facebook’ are curating the whole internet and your not out driving a plug in Facebook FB1 AWD.

Have fun in the Metaverse without me. I'm going to stay in the real world.

Also - this is the beginning of The Matrix. Not sure who's worse to be in charge of said Matrix... evil AI/Agent Smith or Zuck.

It's a good name and slag it off as much as you like but he's got vision and I'm excited for what he'll achieve going forward. Whatever the world is saying about Facebook and Mark right now he's changed our lives as much as Steve Jobs did. Now go right ahead and click on 'Disagree' ?
