Facebook Changes Its Name to 'Meta'

Reading through some of the comments, it seems people are misunderstanding. Facebook will still be Facebook. Meta will be the parent company of Facebook, instagram. Etc. just like google is still google even though the parent company is Alphabet.
Facebook today held a live event to talk about the "metaverse," aka the virtual and augmented reality evolution of social technology in the future, and as part of the presentation, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a new name for the company.
Going forward, Facebook the company will be known as "Meta," while Facebook will still be available as a social media product alongside WhatsApp and Instagram.
Zuckerberg said that the Facebook brand is too limited to represent what the company wants to do in the future. The new name and brand will represent Facebook's apps and its evolving work on augmented and virtual reality products. The name is meant to "reflect who we are and what we hope to build," Zuckerberg said. "Over time, I hope we are seen as a metaverse company."
"From now on, we're going to be metaverse first, not Facebook first," said Zuckerberg. "I hope that people come to know the Meta brand and the future that we stand for."

Someone else already built the Oasis. It was called Second Life. It didn’t catch on with the bulk of the population. If Zuck was just a little bit older, he’d remember that.
Right? It took me all of 30 seconds to find the MEta website and realize what FB was doing. With their new Infinity Symbol logo.
Second life was similar yes but whats coming is going to look and act much more like an alternate reality. Second life looked like a PS2 game.
Whether it is Facebook or Meta, I still won't use it. So, there's that.
Why, millions use it with no ill effect. If there is it's ones own fault. It means you put something that either generated a negative response or you couldn't resist creating a negative response in reaction to stimuli that caused a negative response. Either way personal responsibility and self control are lacking if you blame the platform for any woes that resulted from using it.

They’re also retiring the Oculus brand too apparently.
I agree with you, however; that doesn’t change people that will still continue to use Facebook, even if their privacy was jeopardized. People are not intelligent enough to realize how valuable their privacy is until it’s compromised and too late, but the trade-off is, those same people would rather sit on the phone for hours and Facestalk. Again, you can make privacy an awareness topic for companies like Facebooks antics, but intelligence is naturally organic, but for some people, they just don’t have it.
Facebook is Evil. Now they have evolved into MetaEVIL! 🙈🙉🙊

Or when having an Android phone (on your desk or pocket) and talk (not typing) about peanut butter near it. We experienced this our selves recently, talking about something (again, not typing at all) while the Android phone was not in use at all and within a couple of hours ads about that something came up on connected platforms.
