Multi-billion dollar company and this is an example of how they look after a billion users most personal of data.

Just think about that, next time you log into one of their services...

And I see people on here moan about Amazon’s apparent invasion on privacy, how they don’t dare ever own an Echo.. and then they go and use Facebook  Utter hypocrites!

Remember folks, Zuckerbeg would literally sell YOUR soul if he could get it, for cash...

The writing was on the wall about this years and years ago. Plenty of reports about Facebooks complete disgregard for security and privacy going back a way.

Almost tempting to register 1000 MR accounts, just to like your post.

Don't put all your passwords in one basket and, instead, use password tiers. Use a more complex/different password phrase for email, financial, utilities, casual web sites, etc. That way if one tier gets compromised it doesn't affect everything.

Lol, but a Echo or HomePod record and hear EVERYTHING you say and do in your house! This is the WORST kind of breach in privacy you can have. Facebook just 'knows' the info you put on it. It does not record what you say at home. Enjoy your Echo.

And use unique email addresses. E.g. Yourname+Facebook@gmail.com for the same reason and if your account is compromised, you'll know where from.

And tomorrow, nobody will care.

Anyone want to take wagers on the next FaceBook scandal? I bet around 5pm there will be a report that FaceBook was selling wheelchairs to handicapped people that have hidden GPS trackers. Any takers?
And people will forget about it in 12 hours.

I like how MacRumors hides your password, even if you type it directly into a comment.

works with SSNs as well:

There is much hyperbole on the Web (an example of litotes if ever there was one), but I think it is true to say that Facebook is one of the most dangerous companies ever to have existed. Their terrible ethics, multiplied by their sheer global reach, create a platform of the most dubious and insidious kind imaginable. It can hardly be comprehended. It appears more and more as if Facebook has been complicit in the most shocking kinds of technical, legal and ethical breaches that, for a company of its size and influence, must count among the most detestable corporate actions of the Internet age. I beg everyone to delete their Facebook account, as many people are doing, and rid yourself of this corporation from every aspect of your life. If what we are seeing is, as I suspect, just the tip of the iceberg, we will witness yet more scandals. All trust has gone. Already we have had an avalanche of revelations, enough surely to make every Facebook member consider whether they should continue to support it.

FYI this may be how people are being forced to follow "streetartglobe". It's an account no one ever remembers following, and if you block them the account then unblocks itself and refollows itself. Has happened to numerous people I know.

Never had a FB account and don’t use IG..

Again this is all small potatoes after the equifax breach..

Who cares if your IG password is stolen, just change it and get another.

Problem is that sites that DO sell your data regex out the + and don't accept it as a valid email. Too many of them for this advice to be useful. Sadly.

True, for that method. Personally I have my own domain registered with a catch-all main account. All mail goes to this account regardless of the email address, e.g.:
Linkedin@mydomain.com
Macrumors@mydomain.com

They all go to the same address/account but are all uniquely identifiable. This is useful as not only can I see who has been breached or sold (as mentioned before) but also I can black hole the account meaning it doesn't clutter up my personal address.

it is also useful as it means that any login is practically worthless even if they have obtained it along with my password as they would need to know what are used for each individual account and often I vary it slightly.

I can see the traffic going through the addresses and can see how much spam goes to the old LinkedIn, Tumblr and Lastfm addresses, to name a few who've been compromised. It works well for me.
