Doesn’t it come down to user choice? If users want to use apps rejected by Apple, they need to hit Apple in the pocket and switch platforms. Unfortunately Apple only seems to understand money these days.

As much as I personally hate Facebook, they do have the option of removing their Messenger, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp apps from the iOS platform. That would surely hit Apple’s bottom line hard when customers starting switching to Android in droves.

As for the question as to whether this is anti-competitive behaviour from Apple. Let the courts decide. Personally I’m of the believe that it’s Apple’s Infrastructure, Apple’s store and they should be able to do whatever they want. Facebook can develop their own mobile devices and App Store if they want to...

I’m already aware my opinions (and that’s what they are) will be echoed by others and vehemently disagreed with by others but let’s keep it civil, eh?

How can a streamed video game contain malware? There is no processing on the phone. Why is remote play allowed if streamed games are an issue?

I don't believe Facebook Games are streamed?

Heh. It would, but it also would hurt Facebook. That ain't happening.

I don’t think this will make a difference - there’s been plenty of developers who have protested over the past decade and nothing has ever changed because of it.

Either some branch of government needs to force Apple to change what they’re doing, or somebody needs to organize an effective boycott against Apple.

I haven’t bought a new Apple product since 2014, protesting their App Store monopoly, crap software, and absurd pricing, but my wife gifted me both an Apple Watch and AirPods during that time, plus bought herself an iPhone 8+ and an Apple TV for our house. If I weren’t boycotting Apple we’d probably have more/newer iPhones, iPads, and Macs, but my protest feels fake when I can’t stop my wife from gifting their products to me.
So you have been boycotting Apple for years but your wife bought you products which you accepted and presumably used. Do you and your wife ever speak? If she was aware of your boycot position yet still bought you products why did you not have her return them? Your boycot certainly is fake and your marital communication seems to need work as well. I support an Apple boycot but you are letting down the side.

All against Apple lately. So much envy! All late to the mobile game and now they want they piece of the un-earned cake. All of them abused of they market position for years, making users pay tons of money for crappy software and services. Imposing they own products (I’m looking at you Edge), but now crying about a store that don’t sell they crap. Not sorry for them really, Apple can be (as any other company) really awful, but I stand 100% on this. Is the equivalent that someone complains if Amazon don’t let him sell his products for free.

Ultimately, consumers will decide. If MS' and Facebook's offerings are compelling enough to cause a significant migration to Android, Apple will have to change its policies to stem the tide.

That's the crux of the issue - people like Apple's products and for many the App Store policies do not impact them; so they keep buying.

I would guess it depends on how the player software works on the device used to play the game. It's not simply a passive receiving device.

And those are great gadgets to boot.

Facebook is in no position to criticize anyone. They were not punished enough for Cambridge Analytica. And even if MS and Facebook were allowed to put these apps on the App Store say they have low signups they would then blame Apple. Fact is Apple is consistent in not adding any of these types of services to the App Store. Facebook wants your data and Ad revenue and MS just wants money. Do not for one second think they care about the users. Users are just there to be milked.

Do they, though? It's essentially a store within a store, and it's not exactly breaking news that Apple doesn't want that. We can quibble over whether that's good policy, but app review is entirely pointless once an app can contain arbitrary further apps of its own.

The only "fair" solution to this I can see is to allow alternate app stores. Which… maybe? macOS does it.

Didn’t Apple approve steam though... you just can’t buy new games through the iOS device.

FB and MS didn’t give the reason for rejection.

If they use an inefficient streaming codec that melts phones/tablets or hurts battery life then I’d reject the app. You can use it on macOS.

I wonder if MS / FaceBook could build something in plain html 5 to bypass it? Probably worse performance but a lot of gambling sites have done it. Anyway, strange that a video streaming thing is allowed but not a game streaming, conceptually to me as a user they are essentially the same (although as I don't game on my device i don't care too much).

That's not exactly boycotting is it... more like resisting. You could've explained your position and asked that the gifts be exchanged/changed or even given away to someone else who isn't disgruntled with the brand.

Perhaps a bit hindered, but if Facebook was being honest about their numbers it sounds like the app is "95 percent" the same as the Android app since they insist very little actual gaming is done in their "gaming" app.

I wouldn’t let Facebook‘s festering pile of crap anywhere near IOS they can not be trusted. Good on Apple for protecting it’s users.
Ah so that’s why Instagram, Messenger and Facebook are all in the top 10 chart of free apps on iOS.

Once again Apple telling the world the primary source of App Store revenue is games. They’re not going to allow anything game related on the store that they can’t make money off of. I don’t even think this is about Apple Arcade. It’s the game IAP where Apple is making all it’s money.
