Yet nearly 3bn people use it every month. Let that sink in for a minute, that is approximately 2,800,000,000 people, 35% of the worlds population - every month.

For all Apple's marketing about privacy, forum frothings about people and their data being the product, even the acceptance that Facebook/Meta really is a cancer on society, it is clear that the majority of internet users do not care. :(
Yes and people still use Twitter- a toxic environment often used to destroy lives and form digital mobs to attack others. But it remains super popular.

It is sad to see a company that could have done so much good connecting people in a divided country country and even a divided world become what it has. Facebook is the embodiment of greed. Instead of doing social good for the people it has productized and sold them out. But I see it dying, so it's just time.
Social media created the division.

People don't really think for themselves. They selectively amplify messages and concepts that they are fed through socials.

FB has been going overboard suspending accounts with undo censorship. I got a warning when I posted a funny meme about buying the moon. It was just for fun. That's all I use FB for. Fun. I love watching funny cat videos. They make my day. If Mark-y Malarky gets a rise out of selling my "personal" info, it's just sad for him. I believe in karma.

Actually, Facebook, by spreading slime and misinformation has dome more to DEVIDE this country than any other application.

Users should have near absolute free speech on these platforms. But they should be intelligent enough to evaluate fringe ideas and reject the wacky ones.

I don't think the issue is individuals with divisive ideas. But rather monetary influence behind trying to divide individuals into distinct groups.

I'm all for Grandma posting about misinformation, and then being corrected (That is discussion). I'm not for social media being a population control lab.

your comment criticizing fb policies would have more weight if you posted the meme here for us to put into context. you say it was just a funny meme. we could all use a good laugh. Some funny cat videos are on YouTube btw, dont need facebook for that :)

In my country facebook censors even nobel prizes or high level doctors who talk, with papers in their hands, about the lie they are told about medical facts. Where is the freedom of speech? nowadays any placid talk about something "uncomfortable" is labeled with "hate speech" or "misinformation". They found the way to hush anyone with just a stupid formula. Anything that the regime doesn't like is labeled and censored.

Hey, Mark-Malarky! Nice to hear from you!

There is no such thing as free speech without some form of regulation and guidance to reflect society will. It was inevitable that as social media platforms gain size they would be subjected to such. Its a difficult problem to solve.

This survey of 1000 people is likely flawed, hard to imagine the whole work demographics were accounted for.

Just to clarify why I disagreed with your post: I do not disagree that GB is basically evil. However "freedom of speech" is invariably a government concept.

In the US for example, the first amendment does not apply to Facebook.

Now, care to explain (other than a tit for tat) why you disagreed ed with my post?

I thought the same when I deleted it 3.5 years ago. It was surprisingly easy. Of course, my wife uses it religiously and keeps me up to date on family and friends stuff, so that did make it easier. Like you, no regrets!
I have NEVER had a Facebook account and I have actively campaigned among my friends and colleagues against them opening Facebook and Facebook-affiliated accounts. I have been doing this ever since that Zuckerberg-owned threat to democracy was know as “The Facebook”.
