This is awesome. I was just thinking that it would be sweet if I could see all the "likes","99% of you won't repost this" and "vaguebooking" right on my home and lock screen!

You clearly don't understand fragmentation as the rest of us do. That's fine.

i asked you a genuine question.. why not just answer instead of being condescending? if you are so knowledgeable as to what "fragmentation" on android is.. then answer my simple previous question...

I love people who assume so much about how Facebook works. Have you checked in to reality?

Have you seen FBs past "security" updates, they often enable "features" that assume you want to share things like how many times you wore your partners underwear whilst she was out and how often you watched that youtube she-male porn video before it was taken down... FB do this because 99% of its users dont turn these privacy intrusive features that broadcast to the world OFF , instead of FB assuming these things should be most private to start with, they assume your happy for everything you post or everything a FB enabled app does is to be viewable by the world.

I expect to see FB updates such as :

"Chris called Diane on the 5th April from Club 51"

followed by a status update from Chris's girlfriend asking him what the hell he was doing because he said he was visiting his mum that night :D

I don't think you should be classifying a UI LAUNCHER as fragmentation. It's not a skin in which deep layer integration of services within the OS itself. It's a home screen launcher. It's like saying my PC home screen is different than yours therefore we have Windows fragmentation.

Stop spreading FUD.

What's the difference between Facebook and Twitter?

As far as I am concerned, the key differences between Facebook and Twitter are:

Facebook: Finding and keeping up-to-date (with photos or messages) with your friends and family.

Twitter: River of news. Follow industry experts, celebrities, news organizations, and/or companies you like and get up-to-date news/updates on things that matter to you.

This seems like the perfect play for Facebook. They are essentially usurping the home screen from Google and putting themselves in front of the user and publicly stating how great the "openness" of Android allows them to do this. Google trying to fight this will totally look like a fight against open source and open architecture after Facebook heaped on the praise for "open".

Facebook also says they are going to release new features monthly. How long before Facebook Graph Search is on that home screen to subvert searches from Google? How many advertisements is Facebook going to get that once went to Google? Facebook has attacked their biggest competitor in the market where the most growth is expected in the next 5 years.

Google is not happy with this because they can see where Facebook Home is going. This is not different than when Google's home screen began losing web share to Facebook's home screen. Both of these companies are fighting to be in front of the user first.

and THAT is the reason I left facebook - I want to be in control what shows up on my Wall, I don't want FB to have any power over what is posted there. But apparently too many don't have a problem with it.

While I agree with your first statement, the latter half is not plausible based on UI launcher specs alone. From what I have seen on this (granted it's only been less than an hour) this is a LAUNCHER not something like TouchWiz or Sense in which there are low level OS hooks that have dependencies. Furthermore, the point of the launcher is to use FB more willingly - just posting things without your knowledge defeats the purpose of why it's there. If FB wanted to do that, they could just integrate the existing app with permissions that would allow to do it already.

more & more

waiting for Twitter phone, pinternet phone,linked-in phone,Friendster phone to be announced :D:D

Hmm, how did I know most Apple users would be calling this app. Of course had it have been developed for Apple not Android, I'm sure I'd have been reading things differently!

Thank you i was hoping someone here would understand the difference between a Launcher and the differences between for example sense and touchwiz.

Can you give me an example of what shows up on your wall without your knowledge? I'm being serious.

Not seeing anything about this that takes me to the next level of computing. Just another way for Zuckerburg to get people to waste their time on an already waste of time called Facebook.

Yes, I mentioned those examples in a subsequent post. I've run many UI launchers over top of vanilla Android, MotoBlur and TouchWiz before. None impacted anything beyond the home screen or app drawer.

That being said, I think this *IS* the first step on FB's attempt at making a skin, (HTC?) but in accordance with Google policies, they will have to be careful as to not "fork" Android such as Amazon's devices. But I think it's definitely possible as a future phase that they would be silly to not even research.

Giving personal information to Facebook is about the same as giving your young kids pictures to a convicted sex offender.

Totally agree with this

And FB basically just showed you don't need to fork Android to hijack it

No, we would be just as antagonistic. Facebook is a terrible entity in many senses. I don't want Facebook to move beyond the simplistic iOS integration we have today.

They need to do something to impress their shareholders.

Well it seems to be working. Facebook is up over 3% after announcement and Apple is down again.

It seems Apple needs to do something to impress the shareholders. Their stock is tanking.

The more I think about it - the more I'll probably "pass" on this anyway.

For one - as much crap as Google gets on here - the idea of giving FB any more personal data on me doesn't sit well.

Second- on my FB newsfeed now I hate that it uses an algorithm to determine which updates I see and don't. Just because I've looked at x, y and z's profile or commented on them today doesn't mean I don't want to ever see a, b or c's status updates (ever).

The algorithm - for me - sucks.

Gotta love hands-off parenting, what could possibly go wrong?

What sort of content is your kid looking at? Who is watching and/or stalking your child through their Facebook interactions? What type of privacy settings does your child have on their Facebook Home? Who are their "friends" and how did they meet them? Who are your kids chatting with? Are your underage children chatting with adults? What are they saying to each other?

I could go on and on... your response to my post is even more alarming than the original post to which I responded.

When they're on the phone, who are they talking to? When they're out, who are they interacting with? You're acting as if you have survelliance on your kids 24/7, or that it should be parenting 101. At some point, as a parent, where do you put the onus on yourself to say, 'have I done enough to feel confident my child is making the right decisions?' Facebook provides transparency to a parent, it actually allows you to keep tabs on what they ARE doing if they use it THAT much.
