When it comes to Facebook, you have to think about what else is hidden from the user that FB never mentions. I think people need to treat it as Malware.
That would make Zuck the kingpin of malware and appropriately for that title, he often has this passive-aggressive look on his face like he’s up to no good or hiding something.

Worked for me! Dark mode is so much easier on the eyes— especially for people who are light sensitive.
[doublepost=1551658276][/doublepost]When is Macrumors going to add a dark mode option?

Hoping for dark mode with iOS 13, really like it on the Mac side, blazing white iOS isn’t such a joy to use when it’s dark! Will actually give oled phones a meaningful advantage too (better battery).

Prett nice, viral way to introduce such a feature. I'm kind of torn between keeping it to myself or doing facebook's marketing for them.

Nothing works for me. I got a message in the app saying to change dark mode in settings. Cannot find anything about it, though, anywhere I look.

I had to force quit all the running apps I have. Then opened messenger and when I tapped on it, it rained moons and worked.

Pretty sure FB messenger always had a hidden dark mode, with any messages or photos sent directly to Zucc for his strange gratification.

Agreed.
My FB dark mode is to not install the app. I don't trust them, but do trust (mostly) that Apple encrypts iMessages for group chats.

I use smart invert in accessibility myself (you’re probably using a browser extension, same result if on a computer) but annoying to switch it on and off depending on whether a website already has a dark mode or not. If I go to Ars Technica for example (set to dark theme) gotta turn it off since it inverts to white and back again when I come here.

I know some extensions also allow to pick and choose which sites to invert and which not. Still, MR needs a dark mode stat! :D

Yes, DarkMode let's you turn it on and off based on sites. Will become moot in the future if sites start supporting dark mode in CSS (supported in Safari TP and in 10.14.4).

This is all the code that most sites need:

/* Dark mode support */
@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark) {
body,
iframe,
footer {
filter: invert(0.91) hue-rotate(180deg) !important;
}

body {
background-color: #1c1c1c;
}

:not(object):not(body)>embed, body img, video, figure:empty, *[data-img], *[data-thumb-url], *[style*='background:url']:not(input), *[style*='background: url']:not(input), *[style*='background-image:url']:not(input), *[style*='background-image: url']:not(input) {
filter: invert(1) hue-rotate(180deg) !important;
}
}

Tell that to Arn :p

Over the weekend we noted that Facebook had added a "hidden" setting in Facebook Messenger that allows you to turn on a long-awaited Dark mode. The new mode was found by several sites and users and remains hidden for now.

How to Turn on Dark Mode in Facebook Messenger
  1. Send just the 🌙 emoji to anyone (or even yourself).
  2. Tap on the moon emoji in the chat after you send it.
  3. A pop up should appear saying you found dark mode.
  4. Go to settings and you should see it here.
  5. You may have to force quit the Facebook Messenger app and relaunch it before tapping on the Moon emoji will work.
Facebook acknowledged the Dark mode setting in a blog post.Facebook promises that the feature will be deployed our to everyone in a matter of weeks. The secret method to enable dark mode works in both Android and iOS.

The new mode works particularly well with Facebook's color/gradient option. If you tap on the name of the person you are chatting with, you can choose a custom color for that chat. The gradients work well against the new dark background.

Apple is widely rumored to be adding a dark mode in iOS 13 which is expected to be debuted at WWDC 2019.

(Thanks, Nathan!)

Heck with Dark Mode. Where’s the link to quit Facebook and delete all the personal information they’ve collected on me?
