The broad, unsubstantiated and fear mongering claims in this ad seem strangely familiar....

I hope it will help to clean up internet, less clickbaiting sites created just to display ******** of crappy ads.
Targetted ads is a myth, never seen an ad showing anything close to my interests.

Here is an idea FB. If I am on a cooking website, perhaps that site can show ad's related to cooking.
You know like when I buy a Guitar magazine, most of the ad's will be related to the magazine content.
I know this idea could be construed as being way out there, but it might just work.

Hypocrites, Facebook is so intrusive it’s laughable.

Apple conversely do everything they can to maintain privacy

According to Facebook, free internet is internet where each site can track and collect information on what other pages you visit, what you are looking for in these pages, where you click and where not, from where you access, the version of your browser, even the damn resolution of your screen, the model of your internet device, the version of its software, etc

Facebooks argument is like a thief lamenting that the victim complains about the loss. But - one has to acknowledge the chutzpah of Facebook to pull such a blatant nonsense. Shows how much any small obstacle to obtain such data hurts their business model. If FB really cares about the small businesses, why not donate some of the billions of never paid taxes to them, instead of exploiting them.

Facebook is a cancer, a blight on society. It’s telling that a “digital” company is resorting to archaic, print-ads because it clearly shows what they are trying to do - appeal to the old, conservative policy makers (which they are probably making very wealthy via lobbying funds) to regulate them out of it.

As a side effect, Apple has a customer for life in me, for taking this stand. Facebook will always have me as a detractor.

The hypocrisy is strong with Facebook. What does Facebook have to say about Free basics and the "free internet"?

With Free Basics they have essentially created a walled garden to the internet, zero-rating only their approved partners.

Did you see how much private information Facebook harvests from unsuspecting users? Facebook want this fact hidden. Apple wants to reveal it. Since when is truth and fairness a bad thing? I think this will help people make better informed decisions about what apps they should install. When a screen saver needs to know your contacts, that should raise a red flag. It is evident that Facebook has a lot more to hide than just that though. It seems they have built their business model on selling people's personal information. That is the real truth of the matter. And now that Apple has decided to take steps to reveal what gets stolen, Facebook whines. But nobody ever wanted this to happen. Facebook took it upon themselves to arrogantly steal user's private information, as if they some how owned it.

Nice analogy!

it’s like the thief giving the government a hard time because the government decided to give people the option , if they wanted it, if firting mocks to their doors & windows, free of charge...

Worse, you can NOT be a user of Facebook, and they will still track you. This is what grates in particular.

how about getting rid of targeted ads and just show relevant ads depending on where they are shown?

like, ads for shoes on a clothing website, or food related stuff on for websites? independent of who is watching and where someone is watching?

"Wah wah, the horrible internet economy we built upon data exploitation will no longer be able to support it's self."

Can they please stop acting as if they really care about small businesses?!
Everyone knows it's about their damn money. They never gave a damn about small businesses but now all you hear from them is small business here, small business there... Makes me sick... Such damn hypocrites.

Nice to see a company advocating privacy and high moral business practice - then EU or US governments do not need to deal with it. Just continue Apple.

There’s a bit of irony in FB not wanting to fact-check posts or call out disinformation posted on their platform, while now spreading their own disinformation.

Please consider changing the title of the article:

‘Most hated company in the world publishes ads against the most loved company in the world.’

The whole media is criticizing and laughing at Phasebook. Left, right, conservative, liberal - they all want Facebook to be smashed up.

Advertisers will have to target specialized sites according target audience so good sites should profit from that. It will require some changes in how all things works or return to state before mass surveillance began.

They barely do any real fact checking. Try to report obvious frauds, scams and hate speech on their platforms. They will either give you an automated reply saying they found no problem or they will simply ignore your reports if those problematic accounts generate traffic for their platform.
