Similar. I use DuckDuckGo as much as possible, but it still feels like it comes up short. So, I venture back to Google more often than I'd like.
DuckDuckGo isn't an actual search engine, but uses Bing for its queries. DuckDuckGo does anonymize the searches so they can't be tied back to a particular user.

Unfortunately, you've still been part of Facebook's life. Even if you don't use any of their products, they still collect data on you to collect a shadow profile on you that is only visible to Facebook.

I know, but Instagram is a little less invasive than facebook as I literally only post my artworks on it.
Nothing more...

You can quickly search google via DuckDuckGo by putting !g before your search term. It acts as a go-between so google gets their data, not yours
Never knew that. Thanks <3

Edit: Nah, it doesn't work. Your browser gets redirected to Google, so they have my data :(

I saw some news saying Google can fix this, so do some China ads organizations. So FB must be able to do the same.

But it is a cat and mouse game, once Apple tracking is broken, I think Apple must be able to enforce better way to control.

I'll admit it...it's a sacrifice.
Not being able to promote myself on facebook/twitter hinders my discoverability (I'm a professional motion graphics designer), but I'm still convinced of my choice.

I'm not social-phobic, after all I have Instagram, Linkedin and others, but I just don't like google and facebook as companies, and I do not feel any need for twitter.
I'm also freeing myself from google; I just need to ditch gmail and it'll be it.
Instagram IS Facebook though

Right. DDG is actually my default search engine on the iPhone, and I find that, particularly related to purchasing products, I end up more often at Google than I would like to. Sometimes Google is able to find that obscure part I am looking for.

DDG will get there, because they probably realize that more and more people are starting to make the switch.

I'm sure they have figured out ways to get around not getting the IDFA. They likely wont be able to get as fine of tracking details as they would with the IDFA but even a few data points in the tracking space goes along way.

Okay So, I was pretty hyped for ios 14.5 update and ATT....
I was watching videos explaining the functioning of ATT and trying to get as much information as possible...
I stummbled upon
this very underrated video Explaining ATT!
And Now I'm having second thoughts about all this ATT hype and drama that has been around!

To be honest I have been using DuckDuckgo for 2 years and it almost never happens that I do not find what I was searching for.
I honestly don't understand why more people don't switch.
For information that is more than a year old DDG works just fine. But if you need the latest search results, such as for programming or other technologies, DDG's results are very outdated. For anything new I'm forced to use Google. For everything else I use DDG.

ha..... so facebook is not really worry about the smaller businesses afterall. its thought going be affect it own business so contesting it using smaller business as excuse. but on 2nd thought it's may be actually ok so shut up for now .....ahha

Facebook is suffocating. More people are closing their accounts and moving to privacy respecting services including the ever popular use of adblockers. Good bye Zuck, you will forever be remembered as the evil CEO of Silicon Valley.

DDG drawbacks:
-Local things

-Very specific terms

-local languages world wide

-old infomartion from 10-20 years ago

You can use startpage.com instead of Google. They serve Google results in a more privacy respecting manner. They have a deal with Google to do this and i have no idea why Google agreed.

Yep.

I might have this confused but I had allow tracking already turned off in settings so I haven’t see these pop ups in 14.5.

Even with that setting disabled if I go on Facebook I always got targeted ads.

I updated to 14.5 as soon as it came out and I have not seen a single tracking permission come up yet, I don't really know why is that, I have tried disabling on and off for all, nothing.

Oh yeah. I could have sworn they had more privacy protection/data insulation language around their '!bang' functionality when I originally learned about it but looking now it seems like it's basically just a shortcut. Sorry to misadvise you!

Instagram is WAY more invasive than the Facebook app. Data show Instagram has a stronger hold on you than the FB app.

They have found a way already I am sure, last night I was sending the management company a request for repair of my bathroom and all I can see today is ads about bathtubs, toilets and bathroom remodeling companies.
Did you use FaceBook/FB Messenger or WhatsApp?
The complexity and scope of the data collection system is something that takes a while to get your head around. Even if you take every precaution to protect your own privacy it's dependent on the receiver to do the same. If you have been looking at bathroom fittings on line and that data is available, then you call your management company in the same time frame it's not too difficult to surmise it might be about bathroom maintenance. Either way it's worth a shot.

This all beggars the question; would you pay for FaceBook?
Zuckerberg might be downplaying the facts a little for the shareholders because we already saw the groundswell of reactions against WhatsApp in January when they decided to change their privacy policies, later retracted (well, softened) as people in their droves moved to Telegram and Signal.

And Ghostery Dawn uses the FireFox template but it still selectively blocks trackers and ads. I've been using Vivaldi with DDG for a while now a browser which blocks ads and trackers too.

Yes, this is a big topic, there are a lot of articles online about ATT and its compliance but of course there are a whole lot of us that don't use ATT.
