It’s really time for say goodbye to Facebook. Forever.
Plenty of people just share links to things they find interesting, some of their random thoughts that don't deal with anything sensitive, and some photos that don't reveal anything more than what is seen of them in public--plenty of use that doesn't share anything actually sensitive.very happy to share their most sensitive of data
So, you're saying that, because family and friends are on FB, you cannot choose to interact with them in a non-FB way (text, phone, email, etc.)? My sister is a FB nut, and lives halfway across the country, but I have no problem keeping in touch with her in other ways besides FB (and I haven't used FB in years). Just saying. You can still make a different choice. If that were only possible, but you are naive to think that the average FB user will switch. We techie types would love to, but in this day and age convincing the majority of your family and friends to abandon FB is not going to happen, so we are stuck with FB or with little or no contact with family and friends. That is just the way it is, like it or not. Everyone is used to FB now, and expecting them all to agree to switch to another single platform is so naive as to be laughable. So if you are a loner, then switch if you want to. But if you have a lot of family and friends on FB, you are pretty much stuck with it for now, assuming you want to stay in contact with them.
You can also use FB in the social network superficial manner that still applies to it like before, just to stay in touch and see what others post basically and nothing that involves or reveals anything deeper than that. So, you're saying that, because family and friends are on FB, you cannot choose to interact with them in a non-FB way (text, phone, email, etc.)? Realistically speaking even non-free services/companies have had breaches. No surprise here...if something is free, not matter how great or useful, have zero expectation that your best interests are protected or even considered.
Facebook is just a technology that made it easier to surface existing bias, bigotry, and narcism. Individual people destroyed society.Facebook is the worst thing ever. It destroyed the society and made people dumb.
There is always a better alternative for almost everything. I've been on FB for 10 years and I don't regret any single day. It is like my personal (and yes, public) diary. I don't really care if it is public. I don't care if my pictures are stolen or accessed by a hacker. I'm not a public person, no one realy cares other tan my contacts (and not to all my contacts of course).Stop using Facebook people! There is a better and safer alternative to each fb feature. I can't think of a single good reason to still be on Facebook - there are none.
Facebook this morning announced that its engineering team on Tuesday discovered that hackers have exploited a vulnerability in its code, allowing hackers to steal Facebook access tokens for almost 50 million accounts.
According to Facebook, hackers took advantage of security flaws in its "View As" code, which is a feature designed to let people see what their profile looks like to someone else. The Facebook access tokens that were stolen are digital keys that allow people to stay logged in to Facebook.
It is not clear whether the accounts affected were misused or have had information accessed at this time, and Facebook does not know who executed the attacks.![]()
Facebook says that the vulnerability has been patched at this time, and authorities have been informed. Facebook has reset the access tokens of the nearly 50 million accounts that were affected along with another 40 million accounts that have been subject to a "View As" lookup in the last year.
Customers who have been logged out of their apps will receive a message about what happened once they log back in.
While a security review is conducted, Facebook is turning off the "View As" feature that was used for the hack.
Facebook says that it is "sorry this happened" and that people's privacy and security "is incredibly important." No one needs to change their passwords, according to Facebook, but those concerned can visit the "Security and Login" section in settings to log out of all devices at once.
Today's Facebook hack comes just a day after Facebook was found to be using phone numbers that customers provided for 2-factor authentication for ad targeting purposes and shadow contact building.

The advertisers use it because Facebook corporation staffers tell them that people are using it (lots of incentive to lie).Start to call out advertisers that use the platform. Ask why they use a terrible social network and what they are doing with their FB analytics.
You may not like sharing much (which is a great thing to do) but check out all the personal information about yourself that is on another free site called "familytreenow.com". The information that site provides answers a number of security questions that are required to access your credit report. I was able to look up a friend's address history, then look up his mortgage history (using RedFin), combined with the last four digits of his SSN I accessed his Experion credit report. There is too much information floating out there.lol trust me, most of my friends don’t do FB either. In fact I truly can’t thikk of anyone in my life outside of co workers that use FB. And they have little to no info on me. Certainly not my phone #, which I know is already out in the open. I can just google my number.

Same, I still use IRC to communicate with friends.Never had a FB account.
I do and I could not care less. Neither do most people. It never ceases to amaze me all the astonishing amount of hate middle-aged people in here have towards Facebook.~1 billion people are apparently very happy to share their most sensitive of data with Facebook.

Yes there is several good reasons. The many friends, family, followings on Facebook, to name a few. No need to convince them to get a device that receives phone calls and text messages, right? Social-media isn't the best way to stay in touch or have a conversation with someone anyway.Yes there is several good reasons. The many friends, family, followings on Facebook, to name a few.
