How many people care enough about Facebook to buy a smartphone optimized for it AND actually trust Facebook enough to give them even more access to personal info? dunno.

Is there any chance that Facebook is taking a "Tablet" approach with this phone, and customers can add it do existing data plans for only $10 extra, and then get charged for data only? What I'm wondering is if Facebook somehow integrates calling/messaging via their own FaceBook service, and the phone would only require a data connection to work? (Without the cellular call plan). Facebook for all their warts does think big picture so I wouldn't put it past them.

As for the device itself, lol. I mean sure, there is only so much you can do with a phone design. But c'mon. It looks like an iPhone.

Facebook can only be an app, as much as Chrome can only be a browser. Neither of them can represent a standalone device.

I cannot believe that none of these big execs realize just how much of a flop, disaster this phone is going to be.

Why? People write them off too quickly. I don't think this is going to be just a phone with more integration. As mentioned in my previous comment, I think Facebook thinks bigger than this. We'll see though. If it's just a regular old phone with more integration (in the face of a user base that is tiring of the service) then they will be blasted by Wall Street. I think there is more to this.

Another iPhone wannabe.

If you don't have an iPhone, well you don't have an iPhone.

Facebook is dangerous, this is not sane.

The worst part is that this will actually be popular with the 12-16 year olds who still think Facebook is 'cool'.

I predict a flop.

I mean I use Facebook, but I don't add 5000 people and add selfies of myself every 5 minutes. This will bomb though, you're right.

Innovation!

2013 is becoming the year of ultra-boring tech "events". Pretty sure this photo tells us everything we need to know. It's just another mediocre Android phone with a new Facebook launcher that no one asked for. Yawn.

The HTC One on the other hand..... That will be my iPhone replacement.

Suggested ad campaign:

Remember the days when you had a cellphone because you needed it, but you hated using it?

Remember how you joined Facebook because all your friends and family used it, but you actually hate using it?

Well now you can combine the two!

Get the official cellphone of Facebook and cut out 50% of things you hate using!

Facebook. Because we know you hate us, and that's useful data to mine.

I hope so. I'd love to see them shake things up a bit. But I have a feeling it's gonna be another phone, with better FB integration..that's it. Either way I'm excited to hear what they have to say.

Said MANY people about the original iPhone.

I didnt.

Do u really think this phone is going to be something great? I hope it is...But I doubt it.

A social network site making a phone? psh, you know what's more absurd? A search engine making a phone
