How about just a chronological feed in your timeline? I like the format of Facebook but as long as it’s associated with Zuckerberg, it’s a no for me. I’ll stick with X.

Works great, at least in a web browser. (bookmark the link above)

I feel like this is a little too late. Kind of funny they've finally realized that their news feed is a horrible barren wasteland nobody wants to use.... Because of all the changes facebook has implemented in the years, does anybody still post like this?

FB was an exploitive pit of suck in 2007, too. It was spawned from exploitive DNA in its college days, and got sucked out into the business world by more of the same. It was a harbinger of things to come. Things have gotten progressively worse, while enriching the progenitors of so-called social tech... And soon, newly emboldened "jack-booted thugs" will occupy social media operations. Social media will be the honey pot of the information age. George Orwell's 1984 'bout to become current events, Komrades!

Hmmm, there sure are a lot of black Suburbans in my drivew... 👊🔪🩸☠️

Zuck seems to be realigning Facebook to be more like the worldview of his fellow oligarch bro Musk.
Zuckerberg only cares about money. He’s relaxing censorship on Facebook because people are leaving his platform in droves. You can only give people so many 30 day bans and then they’re just going to leave. The only friends I have on Facebook are people older than 50. At that point many are just unwilling to change.

I still don’t mind browsing to see what some of my friends post so I like the chronological timeline I found. It’s just by now, I’ve already found new content on X and I don’t have to worry if the meme I share will get me a 30 day ban. Sure there are limits, but they are reasonable. I think most people have moved on. Facebook is going to be the new MySpace. Zuckerberg is a little late with the damage control.

That sounds like a promising change.

I have never subscribed to Facebook. I have no intention of doing so now.

The rest of you can make use of it.

Bring back the Paper app, and I might be tempted to think about considering the remote possibility of the outside chance of glancing at it on the app store, at least in a fleeting bout of nostalgic morbid curiosity.

Interesting timing, I just deleted Facebook from my iPhone this week. Not quitting Facebook, but I see little value in running the app on my phone because it was more or less just a waste of time to me.

If there were a way to completely hide the "dating" section, maybe I would try it again. Don't really think my GF digs me having a dating app either.

Wow I think that works. It’s crazy that’s not the default. There are some ads mixed in, but that’s fine with me.

Well everyone has their preferences. I like the format where you can easily choose between the algorithm in the For you tab or go to the Following tab and you can see posts chronologically. I can’t send Facebook where it shows me a random post from three days ago where someone’s having their birthday. Oh great I’ll make sure to comment three days later wishing them a happy birthday 😂
My reasoning was more because of what X has become under Elon. I won't support anything he owns. I still have my account, but only so I don't get locked out of digging into a link someone shares since some things require an account. But other than that, I haven't really used it since it was renamed. Twitter was sooo much better.

I’d love to turn time back to 2007. Something happened between now and then, the world turned hateful, especially after the 2020ish Covid. The last few months I think have set in motion something that could end most of us and hope. I don’t care about me but as a parent that’s horrifying.

I haven’t missed it.

This might be useful. Have to use and see. With this change, Facebook might even be able to add many more users to the platform.

So Facebook was showing both friends’ content and unrelated content that had nothing to do with the user’s friends? And the friends section wasn’t even displaying the friends’ content? What is even the point of having Facebook then ??

By the time I quit Facebook it would default to a feed that was in no way chronological, was mostly adverts and posts from groups I’d never even heard of and certainly didn’t follow, and engagement bait posts designed to get me angry. There was no way to set your default feed to “most recent” and you had to manually set it each time you opened the app.

For me, there is a political aspect that has even Apple on a thin rope.

You may argue we shouldn’t talk politics here, but on the other hand Big Tech has deliberately and expressively become a politics force.

I’m stunned it’s never being reported about in Apple rumors sites editorials.

So Meta: no.
And Macrumors should pay more attention to Apple’s conflict with the UK government requiring access to private iCloud content and EU regulations preventing Apple Intelligence for now.

I dropped Facebook and X. I don’t want them earning a single cent off me, for them to just then turn around and do terrible things with their money. Now I have to work on phasing out Amazon, Google, and probably not buying new from Apple any time soon.
Apple is about the only company from the US I will deal with. Have shares also. But Google and Amazon I can do without. And with Disney+ raising prices in Australia again to $209.99 for the top tier I will be cancelling that too. Looking to buy more Australian Canadian and European from here on out.

I quit all social media in 2014. FB was the reason why. People came out of the woodwork looking to make contact (like old someone from HS tracking you down and calling, weird), and i saw family folk get in fights over politics. I knew I was the product, the outcome, and I was exposing myself to brainwashing. I started hanging out on MacRumors instead.

I kept Facebook around to engange with relatives, but even now I'm not using it (anymore). From my POV it can happily go the same way as myspace.com

The single best change FB could do at this point is to remove the laughing reaction.
