I dropped Facebook and X. I don’t want them earning a single cent off me, for them to just then turn around and do terrible things with their money. Now I have to work on phasing out Amazon, Google, and probably not buying new from Apple any time soon.
Yep! Excellent! I have been doing the same in the UK since you know who began his rampage and the tech bros funded the inauguration.

Remember when Facebook was about connecting with people? I almost forgot, it was pretty good at that for a few years. The day it died was when they killed the chronological feed.

If there's one thing that many software and web businesses are bad at, knowing when to stop changing/adding stuff to the product. At a certain point the product is good and should be maintained as it is.
In the case of FaceBook... I think they jumped head first over the cliff adding crap. Some businesses in my region use (or have used) FaceBook as a cheap way to have a website, but with all the previous changes people hardly can find them or get the information they need. It has become a mess.

For me, I never felt the need to be constantly online with social media like FB. Actually, MacRumors forums is more than enough. ;)

How about just a chronological feed in your timeline? I like the format of Facebook but as long as it’s associated with Zuckerberg, it’s a no for me. I’ll stick with X.

“I no longer want to be in a smelly swamp. Instead I’ll stick with the fascist snake pit”. Right….

Great example how short term engagement boosts decisions damaged long term product quality.

lol so a version of fb that only peopld who had an edu email address could create aan account for will be able to have that nostalgic feeling, the rest of us have to go back and sign in to myspace and tell tom were sorry for abandoning him lol, i was told i should create an account and stuff, tried and barred me from registering at that time because my email account was not from an .edu

all i want FB/meta to do is show me search results that both match what i searched for and are within the distance radius specified thats all i want the search feature to function as an actual search engine and not like some element of a master plan to take over the world concocted by two cartoon animated lab mice lol

This is a sad attempt to try to reinvigorate a dead app.
Meta had the most powerful socia media sites (FB / IG) and their greed to put ads, completely killed the experience.

That’s like saying “We’re going to take away 20% of smell from your septic system “. It’ll still smell like ****, but 20% less.

To my knowledge, you can’t get the chronological feed. Maybe I’m not doing something right but I can’t figure out how to get it on the app. It’s going to be funny if you tell me, there’s an easy way to do it 🤦‍♂️
Holy **** at how my point went over your head. Please read the news concerning X at some point.

Oh geez, have either one of you actually looked at the platform other than which you saw on “the news”. It’s just a scroll of your followers so if you follow people that post cat pics then you’re going to get cats. Trust me, they won’t be fascist cats.

The only realistic difference between that and Facebook, other than some slight formatting differences is, they’re not going to ban you two years after you reposted some silly meme. They don’t have restrictions on opinions either so if you say you’re against some particular thing, they’re not going to ban you. Maybe that is what you don’t like? You can follow the things and people that have the opinions you like if you want to live in an echo chamber. I personally don’t mind if someone has a different opinion, even if I never will agree with it.

You can pick whatever content you want to follow and of course the algorithm is going to show you content you interact with just like on Facebook. This is one way people get themselves in a situation when they interact with content they dislike. They get upset because Facebook/X shows them some content they dislike, but it’s because in the past they’ve commented on similar content.

If you mean, you don’t like the guy that owns the majority of X well then I guess there’s no fixing that unless it goes public.

Facebook jumped the shark a long time ago.

But a few things in place right now make no sense at all. First, having "most relevant" by default for comments is insanely annoying. And this is apparently only controlled by the original poster, not the person viewing the content. It might be okay if this feature weren't so insanely restrictive.

Next is marketplace, which is one of the only reasons I hold onto facebook. The algorithm seems fixated on showing me as many new items as possible, regardless of where they are. I change my radius to what I want and it changes out of that a day later.

In general, they seem to be throwing user customization out the window in the name of their algorithm being in control. This latest idea seems to fix none of that and just put a Band-Aid on a bullet hole.

Friends? Hah, irrelevant for my fake account that I almost never use, it has two people in friend list and I don’t know both of them🤣

Instagram is fancier in this regard and recommended stuff is what I use it for, mostly for fun reels.

It would have been a useful feature back in 2011-2013 in the era of social media boom. Nowadays people mostly consume content produced by large-scale influencers, content farms and companies since there is no incentive to create your own content: you take a nice photo, upload it to Insta right?? It will have 2 or 7 likes and… that’s it, congratulations you have reached the end of Internet.

Now in 2025 we are starting to live in the era of death of social media’s “social” component. People communicate without relying on Facebook Messenger or looking at each-other’s profile pictures or vacation photos. Moreover, you can see direct polarization – some would use X, some would log to bluesky, and some would even check threads.

Thus the concept of “online friendship”, well… maybe it is just me but I guess people have never been making online friends. Also in era of AI, would it make more sense to ask Grok or Chat GPT a question and get answer in fraction of a second or wait a day or two for someone tell it to you in reddit comments or some closed Facebook group?

My FB wall is an endless train of fake ads promoting Musk and Doge. I’m not even American.

Not sure why or how FB can stay relevant if it wants to follow X into the sewer of hate, propaganda and misinformation.

But at least we got a Friends tab.

I can't figure out who is actually still using Facebook beyond Marketplace (which is very useful, I will say)

Every profile just looks like a bot or a ghost town and the real people I interact with on Marketplace usually have not much beyond a few profile photos to help ID folks when meeting up in real life.

If you were in school in 2004-2005 and remember Facebook then... you are crabby old folks now...

:p
Naw not on fb from day 1. Every time I get carded by a woman over 40 she remarks that I appear to be in my 20s, so probably still have some time left on the clock.

Bring back a chronological news feed and I’ll consider giving FB another chance. For now, nope.

I posted these two things yesterday:

I learned this "trick" years ago for the online version of Facebook. This does NOT apply to the mobile app version. To view your feed in chronological order by time, add ?sk=h_chr to the end of facebook.com/ (just bookmark https://www.facebook.com/?sk=h_chr )
To get a chronological feed on the app... Click on the Menu hamburger icon on the bottom right, then click on the Feeds icon on the bottom left corner right above See more

So Facebook was showing both friends’ content and unrelated content that had nothing to do with the user’s friends? And the friends section wasn’t even displaying the friends’ content? What is even the point of having Facebook then ??
The Friends tab was where you managed who your friends were. Make friend request, accept friend requests, remove friends – stuff like that. This change is really nice in that it adds their posts and does so with no distractions. I am not even seeing ads. It wouldn’t surprise me that ads might start appearing if they realize a lot of people are using this feature to avoid seeing ads.
