Friends? Hah, irrelevant for my fake account that I almost never use, it has two people in friend list and I don’t know both of them🤣
Instagram is fancier in this regard and recommended stuff is what I use it for, mostly for fun reels.
It would have been a useful feature back in 2011-2013 in the era of social media boom. Nowadays people mostly consume content produced by large-scale influencers, content farms and companies since there is no incentive to create your own content: you take a nice photo, upload it to Insta right?? It will have 2 or 7 likes and… that’s it, congratulations you have reached the end of Internet.
Now in 2025 we are starting to live in the era of death of social media’s “social” component. People communicate without relying on Facebook Messenger or looking at each-other’s profile pictures or vacation photos. Moreover, you can see direct polarization – some would use X, some would log to bluesky, and some would even check threads.
Thus the concept of “online friendship”, well… maybe it is just me but I guess people have never been making online friends. Also in era of AI, would it make more sense to ask Grok or Chat GPT a question and get answer in fraction of a second or wait a day or two for someone tell it to you in reddit comments or some closed Facebook group?
