Opening a can of soda/beer and drink it directly ( = TouchID ) or opening a can of beer/soda, pour it into a glass and then drink it ( = FaceID )

which is faster?

its not that difficult to understand, right? :p

I was just trying to explain that TouchID is way faster then FaceID.

But then I forgot, this is the macrumors forums...
My sincere apologies

You didn't explain that TouchID is faster than FaceID, if it unlocks when you look at the phone it shouldn't really matter. The plus side I see with this is when my hands get wet, (rain, swimming, shower) TouchID is horrible. I don't see this being an issue with FaceID and the removal of the home button freed up some screen real estate.

The only way I can see TouchID being faster is if you are unlocking your iPhone before even looking at it. I rarely do this. Otherwise you are likely already looking at your iPhone so you can start using it so all you have to do is swipe up. This is not a difficult concept to understand.

EDIT: Also if you can enable something similar to resting your finger on the home button and have the iPhone go straight to the home screen then FaceID will require nothing more than you looking at your iPhone.

Even still, with the speed of the phones now I imagine it should be damn near instant when you look at it, must like touchID is now.

Either way I think it will be at least another year or so before I use it. Wife has me on an allowance.

but how do you know?
From some of the videos I've seen you can basically swipe up right when your phones screen turns on. you don't have to pause like some people are doing.
Cant really explain how it works without actually using it in person ya know

I take my iPhone 7 almost instantly unlocked (and I mean unlocked, so at the homescreen) out of my pocket (jeans).
In no way FaceID can be faster this way.

You will always need a 2nd action (swipe) with FaceID

you need a second action with TouchID also. you either raise to wake (action), touch the screen to wake (action) or click the home and/or power button (action). it's no different.
[doublepost=1505829253][/doublepost]we obviously can't argue TouchID vs FaceID until devices are in hand of everyday users.

Nope.
I just tried with the screen locked (sleep). I push the home button...unlocked at the homescreen

The first "action" is looking at your iPhone which you are already doing anyway? o_O

You are really making a huge deal out of nothing. Again if they implement an accessibility feature (very likely) that allows you enter the home screen just by looking at your iphone then that makes TouchID require more steps since you still have to authenticate by putting your finger on the home button vs just looking at your iPhone with FaceID.

EDIT: If you consider looking at your iPhone a step then it's the same as TouchID. Literally it's the same. You either swipe (action) or rest your finger on the home button which is also an action.

Touch ID fails for me a few times a day. never works for my mom or aunt. Even with numerous same finger scans. I think it will be better because it won't fail for so many people.
Touch ID is nice....when it works.
