I don’t care what anyone says...it can’t be GOOD for your eyes.
It's neither good for your eyes, nor bad. Rather, it's inconsequential. Your eyes can handle moderate amounts of energy across part of the EM spectrum (UV to IR). Too much of any wavelength (including visible light) can certainly cause damage. But that's not what we're talking about here - the IR produced by FaceID's TrueDepth projector is minimal.
If you believe IR from FaceID is bad for your eyes, then be consistent: don't glance at a candle, or at a dim incandescent bulb. And whatever you do, never go outside on a sunny day. Stay away from windows, too.
I'm not trying to be a jerk here...I do understand your perspective. You're wary of something you don't understand, and taking a "better safe than sorry" stance. That's not unreasonable. But step back and apply some common sense to the situation. FaceID's projector is nothing compared to the myriad of IR sources we encounter every day, everywhere we go. There's nothing to fear.
