I just tried out FaceTime on my ATV using my iPhone with continuity camera. Audio of the person on the other end came through fine on my HomePod minis but they could hardly hear what I was saying which I guess means audio input is being handled by the phone only, which was several feet away above the TV. Is the mic on HomePods only for Siri commands? Is there a workaround?

Good question, I wouldn't mind finding this out as well. I too would assume the FaceTime app is using the iPhone's mic and treating the Homepods as just any other TV speaker. So since most TV speakers don't have mics, I'd largely assume there is no way to change inputs. But since Apple likes to do the whole ecosystem integration thing, who knows. If there's no way now, maybe a way is coming. But the other question is how much better is the mic in the Homepod vs the mic in the iPhone.
