I believe the op streams most of his content which therefore doesn't need more space. A lot of people here though are storage whores that want that extra room.
I see. In that case yeah that works out. Even without unlimited data it can work for many people depending on what it is they use the phone for.

Judging by the size of photos and camera, you don't take much photos or video. I'm the exact opposite of that. Aside from web browsing, photos and video are my number one thing I use my phone for. Being that a 60 second video can be about 200mb, 16gb wouldn't cut it for me.

Glad it works for you. This is the second thread (at least) you've started about unlimited data so it's ibviously something very dear to you. I would probably be on unlimited euth Tmobile if they gave me service everywhere I needed it. And if not unlimited, something else, just to save on the bill. :)

It's like when the Xbox one first came out. Youre supposed to stream everything.
An Xbox sits at home always connected to internet (in most cases). I don't like to stream my music and not just data issue, it just kills the battery faster.

I love taking video of my daughters school stuff and I am amazed how fast that takes up space.

I use T-Mobile for work.. they are junk around here. So many times I have to use my phone.

You stream content, yes. But games, no. Games take up space. Apps take up space. Your approach is going in the wrong direction - which is basically 'everything should be or act like a website.' But mobile is going in the direction of 'everything should be an app.' You have about 2.5 GB of space left on your phone. You now have a very real and a very low capacity to install a minor amount of mid to large-sized apps (i.e. unzipped binary).
The resale value of a 16GB iPhone is also going to be extremely low (16GB is already obsolete... 1-2 years from now it will be difficult to sell).
Also, apps in general perform better when they're able to cache more data (even your streaming audio apps, like Spotify, cache often played songs/albums).
Buying a 16GB phone at this point in time is like buying a problem, rather than a solution.

Streaming, cloud are one of the most worthless features ever inventd as carriers and most ISPs have download caps and data throttling in place.

I don't trust the cloud. I feel happy as I can store whatever i want on my 128 GB storage device without worrying about internet connectivity.

Cloud exists only to make money and invade your privacy.

What if you end up in a place with poor reception, or the network just happens to be wonky on that day?

I mean, this seems like a lot of trouble just to save $100. Even if I had unlimited data, I would readily go with a 64gb device just for the convenience of being able to dump all my apps and data onto my iOS device and not have to worry about managing it ever.

For instance, say I want to record and edit a video on my iPhone. a 45-minute clip in HD already takes up about 9gb of space. Then when you import it into iMovie, that's another 9gb of space. That's just plain impossible to do on a 16gb device.

All of my iDevices (iPad mini Retina, iPad Air 2, and iPhone 6 Plus) are 128GB, and I fill them up every time I have to travel for work. And for commuting here in Tokyo. I've gotten up to 60Mbps on LTE, but streaming kills your battery and besides, you're not always going to have good reception. I'd much rather have the space to store content locally!

Imagine I had the 64 but I had 30 GB of music and another 30 GB of video. You're getting to the point where none of that needs to be there.

All of us came from 16. I don't resell my phones. That's harder to do in general since anyone can get an iPhone anywhere. The resale values are usually lower anyway.

Add to that I didn't pay a whole lot for it anyway. That's the whole point is getting the newest iPhone at the lowest price.

Its an "i" phone. It was made for the cloud. I don't really see the point of locally stored content.

When it comes to recording video, it all goes directly to the cloud. 64 gigabytes does have a limit.

You got 16 GB. That's enough to download a few things for when you end up with no cell reception.

If you're with a carrier and you have no cell reception more than 'hardly ever' that's a sign you need to change carriers. You're paying monthly for that.

Oh and there's no way I would record a 45 minute video on an iPhone. 45 minutes of what? A wedding reception possibly? If you were gonna be doing that, it shouldn't be done on an iPhone.

Do they even have apps for that kind of thing? I can barely use iMovie.

And social media apps usually cut your movies short.

You clearly haven't seen what professional videography have been done on iPhone.

The Macintosh 30-year anniversary was shot entirely on iPhone.

A Burberry event was shot entirely on iPhone as well.

Bentley even shot an entire ad with iPhone.

You underestimate the power of iPhone.

And I can name quite a number of places where there isn't cellular coverage. Shooting underwater footage in the Indian Ocean for instance. Operating off Eyjaffjallajokull Volcano in Iceland. Doing geological survey on Tristão da Cunha island. I need to store gigabytes of such data on my iPhone during the shooting and obtaining of raw data. I can only transfer it off to my MacBook at the end of the day, because an rMBP is too unwieldy to carry around in dangerous places.

These are just a few examples of some of the work that I do myself.

By asking to 'change carriers', you do realize that there are some places that have totally zero coverage by any carrier, or areas which just have one carrier only. For instance, my area of residence has great Optus coverage, but in the rare occasion that I head out to the Aussie desert for work, you're asking me to switch to Telstra just for that? Use your head. In such areas, I have to carry an entire database with me in my iPhone, which can be around 40GB. For instance, when I do maritime survey in oceans, I've to rely on such databases to aid me while I'm working in scuba gear and all.

You also realize that 16GB isn't actually 16GB. You only have around 12GB for you to use. A game like Real Racing can take up over 1GB all by itself. Keynote, Pages, Numbers, Word, PowerPoint and Excel respectively take up 538MB, 373MB, 385MB, 466MB, 460MB and 433MB already. I have to keep each app because DOCX documents don't play nice in Pages, and et cetera. Keep in mind that all my Office documents are stored in my OneDrive (40GB of storage, but a lot has to be cached for offline usage for my usage during my job in areas without cellular coverage).

That doesn't count in app caches. Facebook in my phone already takes up 291MB. WhatsApp takes up another 260MB. And they all add up.

And for God's sake, you like making a lot of useless threads.

Even the grand canyon has little to no cell coverage. Lol. But my phone has 64 and I would have gone for 128 if available.

Also VZW unlimited is in borrowed time, ATT unlimited is not really and tmobile unlimited is good if you get a signal.

That's the other extreme. I mean I could probably do all that but still. I'm not filming a documentary.

Plus if I was gonna be doing stuff like that I would have to have a better camera.

The iPhone camera is ok but that's it. It's not wow

It might look like I'm trying to convince myself. But I'm trying to spread the word. I know other people are doing this.

The benefits of cloud storing your music are great and many.

You hear stories all the time about people losing their music because it want safely stored.

no, you're just trolling because you couldn't afford 64 or 128.

no, you're just trolling because you couldn't afford 64 or 128.

You're right. I couldn't afford it. iPhones are getting to expensive for what you get. I don't think it's worth it.

There's already a dwindling effect happening with the apps you get. To be able to do some modern things you have to use older apps on the iPhone.

Would you care to come up with a solution to get my Arri Alexa underwater then?

Even if there was an underwater housing made for it, I can't balance the damn thing on my shoulder while scuba diving. Even my EOS-1Dc with a 135mm prime is already impossible to handle while scuba diving and filming underwater.

And in case things go tits up quickly, at least with an iPhone I can simply stuff it into my pocket and run like hell. But not with an Arri Alexa. Do you know how dangerous it is to film in places such as volcanoes? You can't carry any unwieldy gear with you in such places. Period. I have one of the best video cameras in the world, but they cannot be used in dangerous locations. Did you even bother to read my signature?

The iPhone's camera is already good enough to the point that Bentley uses it to shoot an entire ad.

That Bentley ad was not that impressive visually.

I'm willing to bet my entire career that even if I gave you my Arri Alexa, you won't be able to come up with anything close.

If you can't do it yourself, don't criticise.

I suppose you've already seen the poll that someone created about you asking what others think of you. If you still don't know why people think of you that way, you're really beyond salvation. In fact, I'm starting to wonder whether you're just a kid with too much time to waste in your hands and create all sorts of bloody useless threads.

We'll see when you want to do an OTA update of iOS. I'll laugh.

You'll need at least 5-6GB of free space on your device, or even more, just to perform an OTA update.

I just backup, reset to factory, update OTA and restore from backup. Long way around but it gets the job done.

iOS 8 is the first time I've had to do this. I've had the lowest tear of storage since the original iPhone and have never had a problem since we started doing OTA updates.

For me, I always used the OTA route for point updates, and used iTunes for major releases in which iTunes would backup my iPhone, wipe it, apply the update and restore the iPhone.

We're not talking about filming a documentary, I said events for my daughter. The iPhone 6 takes amazing video and does the job. These are only 3-5 minutes, but it takes a lot of space.

That's fine you don't think its worth, that's your choice. To post why, and how you don't need more than a 16GB is what people are talking about. You don't want people to say anything negative about a 16GB, but yet you criticized others for getting a 64GB or higher. If people what to film a documentary, more power to them.

And what are you talking about modern things you have to use older apps? My iPhone updates apps automatically...

And my point I said before. I feel like you're trying to justify and convince yourself of your purchase. You said also how you have unlimited data, and that is fine, I don't or need it anymore. I save WAY more buying a 64GB iPhone than paying for an unlimited data plan I do not need or will ever use.

Can we end this thread? Backup, reset to factory, update OTA and restore from backup? To save $100? And you have to do this each time there's an OTA update that won't fit on your phone?

I realize the OP likes these threads... it's like clickbait with a ******* ad inside.

As a teacher, I record my own lessons from time to time for professional development purposes. I use my iPhone in conjunction with a "Swivl" mount that tracks my movement in the class and keeps my iPhone centered on me at all times. More convenient than renting a camcorder and then having to export it and deal with FireWire and all that crud.

So recording an hour-long lesson is not out of the norm. I also have all my work-related files in pdf expert synced across my iPhone and iPad. That's another few gb already.

My photos alone is already another 4-5 gb. Then there are apps like iWork's office, the odd game or two. I find it's simply easier for me to just spend a bit more on more storage and not have to worry about storage ever. Granted, it might also be sour grapes since my telco doesn't offer unlimited data.

As it is, I have about 25 gb of free space in my 64 gb 5s, and I don't even own any iTunes media content.

Who says you have to do all that? Updates like that only come once a year, if not longer. You'd have a new phone by then.

For someone who doesn't want to pay over 800 for a phone, 100 is a blessing even if it is 11 percent savings.

It's kinda messed up when you look at the pricing.
