No. Not in my district, we've got almost 4 weeks until kids come back to school.
We used to be that way a decade or so ago, but now they have teacher workdays off, conferences, etc. And they have added more to the curriculum to ensure more children are prepared for college. School districts really seem to stress kids going to top colleges which gets them great scores and funding. Pretty much everything in our area K-12 will be going full-time by tomorrow.

Oh god, if we have to wait until mid October till M1 16’ comes out I’m just gonna buy a 13’ now lol. Timing sucks for anyone who’s starting semester in September.
Yeah, I get it. I think the original intention was to get these out before school, but the chip shortage threw a wrench in this timeline. The good news is that the existing M1 Macs should all have some price reductions now, and they’re still capable machines.

Dang it Apple! Stop taunting us with rainbows! Bring back the rainbow logo in macOS and on all products!
Lovely idea, actually. It'd be a blast from the past, yet somehow very... new.

Not sure how the rainbow Apple logo would work on all their products from a design perspective—it'd really stand out, that's for certain.

Will probably sit out major hardware since this was a big purchase year for me (24” iMac, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12, air pod pros, a few HomePod minis) but may consider replacing my 10.5” iPad Pro with a 11” pro. Also ordering a Tesla next month so I will be more than happy to enjoy what I have now and watch you guys enjoy the new stuff coming out.

apple is on a roll again with products. There are some glaring gaps that they are filling in nicely.

This era is … just gone. It looks so dated, it has the aesthetic of a VCR brand. SJ was right to move beyond it IMO.
I like it. Very retro wave / synth wave style when rendered with modern methods and not the old production methods

I’m quite smug in the fact I don’t need any Apple products this year. My phone is only 10 months old at this point and my iPad is 8 months old. You don’t have to upgrade annually anymore which is reassuring as technology has matured.
We never had to upgrade "annually" to begin with, did we? Upgrading is a choice, ideally based on our needs and budget.

As for technology "maturing," I would say that it's always "maturing" and there will never be a point at which we will just be 100% satisfied with whatever we have. The reason why new products are developed is because people are curious to try new things, and also because the manufacturers uncover consumer needs that they never fully realized they had, until it's demonstrated that there's now a product to address those needs.

Also, it's not just the hardware—it's the software/hardware combination that drives new purchases. Once we see new software (operating systems like macOS, for example) and what it can do, we then begin wanting the hardware that can run said software. (Well, there are some Mac users who don't care much for macOS as it stands, but I digress...) As with any manufacturer's products, owners of Apple products are caught in that "virtuous" cycle, whether they want to be or not. We can choose not to upgrade, provided we can ignore the notifications that are built in to said software, and provided we're clear that we truly don't "need" those new things.

That said, I'm pleased to hear that you're fully satisfied with your gear situation. You're the proud owner of a phone that's "only" ten months old, and a tablet that's "only" eight months old. Hang onto those for three more years and we'll pin a medal on your chest 😅

Thanks for explaining the obvious notion of what products are and ending it with a bit of sarcasm at the end. I’m sure you were chuffed with yourself writing that.

Sorry if my post rubbed you the wrong way! I guess that there's no point in saying anything when there's always someone to take you down, is there.

(said with a bit of sarcasm)

Actually, I can't criticize anyone for wanting to upgrade or get new things. I was just commenting on the mechanism behind it, as I see it. Maybe it seems obvious to you, but I wonder how obvious it is to the rest of the world.

Showing off the capabilities of new M based MBPs could take up a whole show easy. Just depends on the extent of the marketing.

Sure they could, you could do that by going really deep in the tech but then they could also do a press release to do that and save money on costs for a event.
Apple has never (to my knowledge) done a event just for one product which Macbook Pro's actually are. Even if there are two sizes they have the same tech internally.

They want the extra attention for these new macbooks so they will do an event but they will add more products to finish off the year with a bang and that means iPad Mini and Mac Mini "Pro" will be added to fill a one hour event.

This could be the year I get an Apple Watch, if it looks less bulky/nerdy. I’m sceptical about the flat edges, it doesn’t seem comfortable for a wristwatch but only experience will tell I guess. Pretty excited

My iPhone XS is still functioning like new so I hope I can keep that one for another 2 years as there is 0 reason to upgrade really.
Agree about the flat edges, uncomfortable on other devices. Let's see what Apple unveils.

Got my first watch last year primarily to nag me about exercise. Over the months have grown to love it as it stops me looking at the phone so often! Switching AOD off makes it more discreet and improves battery life no end. Don't expect to replace for several years but let's see what temptation Apple can come up with. Because of the new design rumours I've bought a couple more solo loops just in case and to add a little colour contrast (shades of blue).

Moved from + size XS to 12. Biggest positive is better cellular reception. Negatives are weight and discomfort from those edges...

Happy decision making!

To be fair... Apple "events" these days are now just prerecorded movies.

Sure there's still a lot of planning, writing, filming and editing... but they don't need to bring 1,000 journalists to the campus anymore... nor have hands-on areas.

It's because of these prerecorded movies that they could hold an "event" for just two Macbook Pros.

:)

Like i told someone else already who made the same point you did sure they could......but they won't because that's not the Apple way :)
They could just as easily do a press release and be done with it and save the money on producing a virtual event.
At this point in time the rumors lead towards iPhones, Apple Watch and Airpods 3 in September and in a second (probably October) event they would announce the new Macbook Pro's , Mac Mini "Pro" and a new iPad Mini.
The Mini would be shipping a little later than the Macbooks but should still come this year.

In the end everything is speculation until Apple officially announces something so we'll see what happens this fall.

I don’t criticise people for wanting new things as we all enjoy it when we get something new. I’m just less excited by Apple products in recent years as it seems to be slight changes year on year compared to pre 2015 levels. That’s the nature of the beast when technology matures I. Terms of capabilities and market demand. I know how product development works too. I wouldn’t have taken your post the way I did if you hadn’t included the part about me ‘getting a medal’ as this came across condescending. If you didn’t mean it that way then fair enough.

Yes, sorry about that part. Now that I think about it, I can see why you felt that way. I didn't mean to criticize you or make fun of you. It was more of a poor attempt at humor than anything else.

I guess I'm more disturbed that I can see the seams in the arches. Thought apple would be a bit more slick than that. Not sure Mr Jobs would have allowed that. Also that they are allowing such a large space to be used for non-native grass, with the amount of upkeep and water it takes to nurture it seems out of character for what they are trying to do with the space.
