I still like mine, but the battery life grates on me. Granted, battery health is 84%, but my morning cardio using Bluetooth even with the cellular disabled is a gutshot for the battery. So, get up, workout, put it on the charger. Wear it the rest of the day, put it on the charger before walking in the evening.

At this point, it’s almost not worth paying for cellular. It’s really nice not having to take the phone on workouts and to be able to leave it in my pocket most of the time otherwise, if I even have it. Battery life is the only major downside. Well, that and the fact that it’s almost impossible to use the screen during or at the end of a workout unless I carry something to use to dry my hands.

I don’t have issues very often with the touch screen. The battery topic, I fully agree with you on. If I really ever listened to music at all, especially on LTE, there’s no chance I’d get a whole day. My series 5 is just over a year old, and I get about 15 hours tops out of the battery (even less some days). It’s very frustrating to have such poor battery life after one year.

Over the last twelve months I have started to fall out of love with my Apple Watch.
I was smart and avoided the initial watch and the 1 series and entered ownership at series 2. Non cellular.
I promptly started hitting movement goals daily, responding to the occasional message with a thumbs up and boosting my heating system with 30mins extra juice. All good, with a hint of novelty.
Then the four came. With cellular. Then a yearly carrot subscription for more accurate weather on the watch. But then came battery drain when using the watch for podcast streaming while out and about. Annoyance set in. The watch is fine if you don't really use it. You're either going to bed with 40% charge (having not made the watch sweat) or you're charging it in the afternoon. This state of mind hung around enough to put me off the series 5 and 6.
Last December the £5 a month cellular sub was cancelled as is the Carrot sub.
The whole Apple Watch idea is about to get kicked into touch. I find this disappointing as I want to love it.

Is anyone else in the same boat?

Sorry you're not falling in love. I'm curious if lack of fitness the last 12 months of pandemic has led to this or greatly added to this.

Reading the title of the tread I thought I'd be reading an interesting finding of how a broken heart would lead to tangible readings on the watch :(

After one month and half, I bought two more automatic mechanical watches and I’m using my AW only when I’m doing fitness. And I’m happy with that ☺️

Tried again for two days to use the AW. Comfortable and useful? Yes (useful, not fundamental). Uglier than mechanical? Sure. At the moment, maybe because I’m tired of the look pf AW, I came back to mechanical again.

Looking to replace my Series 1 with an SE (unless Apple unveils a newer SE version this year).
Apple really broke my heart when they removed Shortcuts from my watch.

I felt like it was an attractive step up from my calculator watch.

Thanks to how god awful ugly the watch itself is, I fortunately never fell in love.

I have/had AW 2, 4, 6 and I've essentially stopped wearing them. I gave away my AW 2 and AW 4. I may do the same with the 6. For all the Great things it can do, my biggest frustration with the AW is how often it needs to be charged...

I've got a Citizen Eco Drive that connects via BT to my iPhone to let me know about texts and emails. I never have to charge it and my iPhone keeps it absolutely on time.

YMMV

yup. I've had quite a few and constantly flip flop between the AW and my Garmin(s). Round case and 2 week battery life get me back to Garmin every time. I can't deal with battery anxiety on the AW.

If they really end up following through with a square sided AW this year as the rumors suggest, it will be the first one I won't be tempted to buy.

Charging daily is an inconvenience? Mine goes on the charger right alongside my phone while I sleep and normally ends the day with 50%+. Before my S6 I was just like you though. Had a S1, S2 and S4 that I ended up selling shortly after getting them. I think how nice the titanium looks with so many bands is what keeps me wearing it this year.

I’m curious about this Citizen, though. I wouldn’t mind having a smart mechanical to wear now and then for more formal settings. Care to share a photo or two?

I think the daily charging need is more annoying for those who charge on less of a regular basis, i.e. folks who wear their watches at night for sleep tracking, as an example.

I wear my watch for sleep tracking and I still don't find daily charging annoying. It's even less of an issue with how fast the S6 charges. It's just like any other device; throw it on the charger for a bit and you're good to go.

Just switched from AW3 to a Garmin. Garmin activity tracking suits my needs better and I don’t need to charge everyday.

Exactly. Its not that I can't live with daily charging on the AW, it's just that it starts to annoy me.

Yes, I charge my laptop and phone daily but they have enough capacity that anytime I decide to use them, I can (for hours) and not think twice about the battery. There is always enough reserve that battery is never a consideration. The Garmin watch, same, never have to think twice. With the AW, whenever I put it on, my brain is automatically going into mental battery management mode.

It's about being less tethered, physically and mentally.

AW6 has been good but still not at the 3-5 worry free days I'm looking for.

My other gripe is Apple's insistence on not allowing AW pairing with iPad or a website to crunch your health data like Garmin Connect. Not to mention the requirement that Fitnesss+ won't work without a watch.

The AW doesnt feel like a device made to serve me rather, it's the other way around.

My SS Series 4 recently broke. I swam with it, but it was in a tiny pool, It was barely under 2 feet of water for longer than a few minutes. So much for that 50m depth rating. And Apple is refusing to do anything because it is out of warranty.

Anyway, I am not sure I want to get a replacement. The main thing I ever did with was check the time. Secondary uses were exercise tracking, cooking timers, and tracking my Invisalign treatment. All of those are kind of superfluous.

I'm thinking of getting a traditional watch instead. Shinola has had my eye for a while.

Did the pool you were in have chlorine in it? I hear a lot about that chemical destroying seals in smart watches. That and salt water for some reason. Funny as the last time I was at a beach, I still rocked my Samsung Gear 2, which survived quite well (although it needed tons of polishing to get rid of the 'salt stains')

The seals could have degraded over time. Even on mechanical watches, the seals need to be replaced over time, or else water will enter the case. I don't know of any guidance from Apple regarding the longevity of the seals in the AW, but I would be a little leery of swimming with an older AW.

It was a chlorine pool, but I think this was the first time dunking it under water in any meaningful way. Apple literally advertised competitive swimmers training daily in a pool and surfers taking calls after hitting big waves in the ocean.

And it's not that old. It was purchased in summer 2019 - not that long ago. Mechanical watches have seals that might need to be changed every decade or so.

This is only 2 years old and its water exposure was limited to bathing a kid in a bathtub and one time in a pool. I am not sure anyone can be reasonably find this acceptable given how the Watch is advertised - Apple literally etches a 50M depth rating on it.

I've only worn mine in a shower, and soap and all (they do say don't get soap on it but I lucked out, I guess?) but I've heard many cases where folks have the screen pop out. It's possible the battery swelled to the point that it messed with the seals, but showed no noticeable damage.

Yes, that is correct. I found the seals to be better on certain diving watches.

I picked up a Series 1 refurb in early 2017. Jumped to the Series 4 in mid 2019 or so.

About a month ago, I realized I just didn't enjoy wearing it anymore - and some of the 'features' were actively annoying. I could have turned them off...but then I'm just wearing a watch that needs nightly charging.

So I swapped back to an older wristwatch I still had for a few days, and found that I really didn't miss wearing the AW.

Been over a month since I last took it off the charger, and I plan to wipe and sell it (or trade it in) soon. Replaced it with a Seiko Prospex 'Arnie'.

Has anyone tried a Casio GBD-200? Seems like it does most of things I care about - activity tracking, notifications and has a long battery life. I haven’t seen any reviews on it yet

My ss s4 I got launch day, I shower with mine daily, bathe with mine. Sweat, swim and it’s still perfect. Yours might’ve been defective.

Fell out of love.

I’m over the hype and connectivity. But it is useful during my work days.

AW 7 leaks don’t seem to promising. Maybe I’ll hang on to my AW 5 until the 8 come out in almost a year.

Tbh I probably shouldn’t say this but I’m keeping my ss s4 until it breaks, I’ll get a warranty replacement and hope they give me a newer version when the time comes. The 4 is perfect for my needs and I see 0 desires in a new one since mine still looks brand spanking new
