My ss s4 I got launch day, I shower with mine daily, bathe with mine. Sweat, swim and it’s still perfect. Yours might’ve been defective.
Yea, I'm pretty convinced it was defective. But Apple told me to basically pound sand because the warranty expired. They're also really hanging a lot on saying it's not waterproof but just water resistant (which frankly is just BS). Also, they said it may have been my fault if I did not activate the water blocking feature in the swipe-up menu before getting it wet (which is also BS).

I'm not too upset about the crappy customer service from Apple. Overall, I'm still way ahead with them given how many replacements of other products I've had over the decades. But this experience just highlighted the fact that the Apple Watch is not like other watches in that price range, and it's in a bad way. It's just another short-lives electronic gizmo, not a long-term watch.

I’m almost positive that the water function only stops the touch screen from activating and then makes a specific tone frequency to expel the water. I’m nearly positive that it does nothing that changes the water resistance of the watch. If so, they need to heavily make that clear.

That is correct. Personally I’ve never interpreted it otherwise. Don’t know anyone that has interpreted it that way TBH.

I guess maybe what they were saying was that since the water lock wasn’t activated, water seeped into the watch and was never expelled when it was unlocked possibly seeping deeper into the watch over time.

Even so, that means the seals failed. If you set the water lock feature, and then the watch dies before you can end it and generate that tone, then the whole thing is pointless.

Same thing happened to a coworker when he went swimming (in the ocean, no less) with his supposedly waterproof iPhone.

There's no way I would submerge my watch or iPhone out of warranty (or out of AppleCare+).

Apple says: "Water resistance isn't a permanent condition and may diminish over time." However, this is certainly not clear from their marketing which creates a different impression, so I sympathize.

Nope. Loving my AW5 even more after a year. Non-cellular because I like to take photos, so I carry my iPhone with me. Filling my rings daily has improved my health, it's a handy hands-free timer when I'm cooking, and also hands free when messaging with family or taking calls. Only thing I don't use it for is sleeping. I get loads of exercise so I sleep well.
how do you take photos with an apple watch?

He doesn't take photos with his watch; he takes photos with his iPhone, that is why he always has his phone with him, and hence that is why he does not need cellular on his watch. (At least, that is my understanding from his post.)

But you can "take" a photo with the Apple Watch using the iPhone's camera. Basically the watch functions as a remote viewfinder and shutter release. See the Camera Remote app on the Apple Watch.

Waiting for this beauty for the end of January/start of February ☺️

A lot of pretty ignorant replies about a Rolex. Some people collect mechanical watches because ( like me) they appreciate the history, the engineering snd the fact they can be handed down from generation to generation.

Comments like “ people buy them as a status symbol, or “ a lot of money to tell the time” are projections by people with confidence issues.

Apple watches serve a purpose, but also won’t last 60+ years. And won’t hold their value over that time too.

I've been looking for a GMT Master II and/or Submariner forever! Both of my favorite watches ever. Definitely will outlast any Apple Watch.

Exactly, enjoy, and don’t let anyone who doesn’t understand the hobby deter you!

After some years of AW, I understand that, in my point of view, luxury watch are the only jewels that I like to wear ☺️

This sub no date will be a gift for myself to celebrate the birth of my first son in January and I’m hoping to have it with his birth date on the warranty card. And I hope that in the future he will appreciate it when I will pass it to him. If no, I will continue to wear it myself ?

It’s expensive? Sure. But it’s something that will retain or increase its value in the future (according to actual daily increasing price in the grey market ?) and will work maybe forever without any kind of battery charge or change. And, last but not least, I think it’s gorgeous on my wrist?

That’s exactly the point, a Rolex is jewelry. Enjoy the status symbol!

I have a really hard time understanding how someone can like the designs of the Apple Watch and a Rolex at the same time. They seem diametrically opposed to me.

Well, they have a different purpose for me, the apple watch is Mainly for fitness in my case. The Rolex is more a special occasion watch.

Anyone who uses a Rolex as a status symbol is a moron, there are way too many violent muggings for watches in cities all over the world to risk showing it off.

I wear mine tucked under my jumper or coat, and in the summer would never wear it with a T-shirt for that reason.

I just enjoy mechanical watches and the community around them, just like we all enjoy technology here.

I understand that they have different purposes, but do you genuinly like both designs?

I see you are equating status symbol with showing off, which, granted, is one way to interpret "status symbol." But I think things can be a status symbol even if you don't overtly show it off. It's kind of a self-satisfaction from having something of symbolic/cultural/artistic value. You feel like you are part of an exclusive club of other people who also appreciate it. Perhaps it even allows you to feel superior to people who don't appreciate Rolex, or don't have the means to afford it. So in that sense, it's an affirmation, that is, a symbol, of a certain social/economic/cultural status -- even if you just keep it to yourself.

Ok maybe I mis-understood you.

I don’t feel above anyone to be honest. I saved and saved and saved to buy the watch, because it’s something I always wanted. It took me ten years. I’m not rich by any stretch of the imagination. But waited until I could afford it.

I also know if the proverbial hits the fan I won’t lose any money on it if I had to sell it quickly.

But I do like going to watch meet ups, and events based around mechanical watches, I guess I have a geeky side to me, which is probably why I like apple stuff too!

But yes, there is a real toxic side to the watch industry that involves people sitting on boats with Rolex’s taking selfies to show off on Instagram. That side of it I personally find abhorrent.
