If you have 2 apple Id's -1 for iTunes and 1 for iCloud like I do, it will not allow you to Family Share. Your ITunes ID MUST be your iCloud ID.

I'd say that's a major problem because a lot of Apple users have this kind of setup as a result of being iTunes customers before the iCloud/Mobile Me days. But Apple has done nothing to address this over the years, and they probably won't now unfortunately.

Does a single iTunes Match subscription get shared across the family? Likewise the new iCloud subscriptions? Or is it one per person?

Can't you just set up your iTunes id as a fake family member? That way any purchases u make/made under that account will now be shareable?

Good News- If you continue through the set up panels ( I must not have gone far enough last time) ,there is a place to enter your iTunes ID. So it does appear that they did think of this after all. I'd agree this could have been a very big problem, so I glad to find that they have provided a way to allow both ID's at one time.

Sadly one of the things Apple still needs to address is merging/linking Apple IDs.

Thanks for letting us know. I'm glad they haven't simply ignored the problem again this time. :D

Yup I can confirm this. My iTunes and iCloud accounts are different and it lets you choose the iTunes account you want to share from which can be different from your iCloud account.

Did it let you set up your family? It tells me that my Id is already in a family!

I'm not seeing that... I have separate icloud and itunes usernames... my family already shares the itunes one, but we all have separate icloud accounts. Whenever I try to add my itunes account, it says that that account is part of another family

To me it looks like everything you take will go into a shared stream. It appears as though the "camera roll" is gone, and we will now just be seeing a shared stream.

It's pretty obvious from their iOS 8 preview page that this will just be a treated as another shared photostream like the current implementation. Bummer really. I will probably just keep the setup we are using now. The only downside I've found is that when my wife comments on a shared photostream, it looks like it's coming from me.

Family Sharing should have been the ability for an iPad to have multiple user accounts with various users having home screens, mail, etc., only for their use. Let me set it up for me, let my wife for her, and let me set it up for my kids separately. Imagine if it would then know the user account based on the finger print unlocking a Touch ID enabled iPad? That's what I would call fast user switching.

It doesn't check to see if your CC info matches on both accounts, it just bills everything to the primary account.

Also, if the box is checked (it is by default), you can find all the devices in a family in the find my iPhone app.

Anybody know if the family share thing will work OK with this scenario?: My wife and I each have iPhones and we have ONE home computer - a macbook. That macbook has itunes and iphoto and that iphoto contains our entire family photo album from both phones. When we plug in our phones to sync, we upload our photos into iphoto. And the itunes install is tied to the itunes account of my wife. My phone is also tied to that account and I sync and unsync music, apps, etc using that. I also have (on my phone) her icloud account set up so we can both find-my-iphone each other and alert or nuke phones if needed.

So... is there going to be ANY point to me finally getting my own personal icloud and/or itunes ids on my iphone? Remember, I sync to the itunes on OUR computer. Our one-and-only computer.

Does all devices have to be on ios 8 for this to work?

For example, I'm keeping my wife on 7.1.1 while I beta 8. Can she still be on my family share? Because this is a game changer for us. Our kid HAS to have my iphone to watch Frozen, because that's the account we bought it under. This will allow dear daughter to use either phone, I assume.

Mom, Pop, Two teenage daughters, one teenage son and grandpa on one credit card??? I don't think so.

Calendars Reminders

Has anyone tried the shared family calendar and reminders? The Apple demo showed a screen with Personal, Business, Family calendar. If you post an event or reminder do the members get a notification?

i can confirm that it does not work on internation accounts from different regions, kinda suck :( i thought that i would use my US account with my other region account, does not allow me . must be in the same country :(

Are you only using the one user account on the MacBook? If you are, why not have your own account on the MacBook. You may have one and only computer, but can have more than one login for it ;). Anyway, in answer to your quip exiting yes it will.

I got excited when they first started talking about this feature. But it turns out that it doesn't do what I hoped.

Me and my partner live at the same address. Both have individual iTunes accounts, different debit cards.

She buys some music, I buy some music. I want us to both be able to share the music. Why would we buy the same album from iTunes twice?
